I am so lost. Why is it when I look up a chord, such as the D6/9 there are so many different fingerings for it. No, I don't just mean which finger to use but I mean entirely new frets, and strings that it is too confusing. If something is as vastly different as I am seeing they shouldn't share the same naming. Go to Google and in the search bar type d6/9 then go to a site with chord charts. It is insane to me.
I am 61 and decided to want to learn to play the acoustic guitar, I love the way you teach, you go nice and slow so us beginners can catch on, others I've watched go way too fast, they seem to forget we're just beginners. I'm glad I came across you.
Lauren I’m 75 and find your teaching for beginners, very easy to follow and understand .. Your patience is amazing, I’ve subscribed to your channel and looking forward in learning to play my guitar. Thank You
Agree 100 percent. I started playing about 5 or 6 months ago and believe it or not om actually pretty good now and it's all bc of Lauren and her videos. Iv been told by ppl that play that it seems iv been playing a year to year and a half already. It amazes me as I never thought I'd learn and always wanted to.
I'm 73 and I've always wanted to play guitar. I have osteoarthritis and I'm working on not only strengthening my fingers but getting them to move right. Thank you for helping all those like me. I'm really enjoying learning. You are really good at what you do. I know that everything is repetitive so I don't get frustrated but just keep practicing. I'm working on horse with no name until I can get proficient at going from e-minor to d6/9 without hesitation or having to really think about it. My husband says I'm sounding better and I'm glad that he encourages me and listens to me doing the same thing over and over. Keep up the good work and bless you for being encouraging especially to us older folks.
I am 73 years old with several of the problems you might expect of an older learner. Over the years I have taken lessons from extremely talented musicians and teachers. Lauren’s commitment to music as well as education is unique.
The most BRILLIANT training on the internet. Lauren breaks each step into the most basic playing elements and diagrams, which makes it very easy for a complete beginner to understand and follow. Thanks Lauren.
Thank you so much. On December 9, 2020, my Dad died of Covid. He was an avid guitar player. He played every day and in his lifetime he wrote over 3,000 songs. The last thing I told him before he died was that I would learn to play and I wouldn't let the music die. I haven't been able to open his guitar or even attempt to play it. I just couldn't. Yesterday, I picked up the guitar he had left me. I tuned it and found your videos. Thank you so much for helping me fulfill the promise I made to him. I just played the easy version of Horse with No Name for my hubby. It means a lot to me. THANKS again. Hopefully, I'll be able to play his songs soon.
I can do it, my very first song!! Its not super smooth as yet, but I'm just continuing to practice every day. I feel super proud as I never thought I'd achieve much with arthritis, which makes fingers reluctant to move as directed very often. So grateful to you Lauren, you are a super tutor for us seniors. Thank you! 😊
wow only had a guitar for a week and just seen this video, before i knew it i was playing along and you were singing it was amazing, had the biggest smile on my face when realized what was happening, so much fun!!!!
I'm a new middle-aged guitar player and its been such a fun journey. There are a lot of good teachers on RU-vid but I've learned the most from you. Awesome tutorial and great voice. Thanks so much!!
Hi Lauren Jeremy Parr thank for showing this technique strumming I am just get the hang on some of my cords not the at them yet this video is a great help thank again yours truly Jer😁❤
Jeremy Parr Hi Lauren I like to thank you for you warm replied I was wondering how to play a simple tone on the on the guitar yours truly Jeremy Thank you for your you tube I enjoy you music thank you so much again Jeremy Parr
I'm also 61, been trying to learn guitar for absolutely years. Tried another online lesson but struggled. This one is much better for us older types I think. Actually played along and really feel like I am learning. Thank you Lauren, I did the crash course which really helped too, Just wish I could afford the 7 level course, but making do with you tube for now. Thank you again.
Lauren. U r one of the best guitar instructors on YT!! During 2020(COVID) I finally retired /then got serious about teaching myself guitar!! Your methodical approach for beginners was perfect. Now this song seems too easy!! Guess I am improving a lil’!! IT IS A FUN SONG TO PLAY AT ANY LEVEL THOUGH!!👍😉
You're the best teacher from all the youtube videos i've watched. Im a a beginner and i only learn through online, you're such a kind teacher and when you smile i'll smile too thanks!
I wish everyone taught like you. I keep finding songs I’d like to learn but the way they explain them so fast, like to someone who’s been playing for years, it all becomes a blur. I’m only four months in. Thanks for all you do.🤟🏻😎🤟🏻
I’m with you Mr Mofo. I just started 2 weeks ago. Karen is a great teacher. Today I started to learn Horse with no name. My playing doesn’t sound very good, yet. But it sure is fun.
Goodmorning and THANK YOU so much Lauren for your beginners crash course. I've been gradually progressing over about 9 months. You are a gifted teacher, who breaks things down into bite size pieces, which is fantastic for slow learners like myself.❤ I thoroughly enjoy your videos and look forward to learning more.
Lauren, Thank you so much for this! I have been attempting to learn the guitar for the past 6 months or so. Most of the channels on RU-vid "say beginners" and then proceed to bust out impossible walkdowns and strum patterns (I feel like it's a slap in the face, and all they are doing is showing off). You actually explain like we are the beginners we truly are. Please keep up the amazing work!! You truly are a gifted instructor! I feel like I am actually accomplishing something while practicing with your videos. Thank you again!!! On a side note, I love the hummingbirds on the guitar!!!
Aww yes. I just watched a video by Rick Beato called 5 things every beginner guitar player needs to know and I was like oh my goodness I would never teach that to a beginner. Too hard for real beginners. I remember what it's like to be at those beginner stages and it's important to keep things simple while having fun. Helps to build confidence.
@@LaurenBateman I know exactly what video you are talking about LoL. I have signed up for your guitar crash course and am giving this a go. Hoping that I will get more out of this than others I have tried, as I am looking for an instructor who explains on a level that I can comprehend. Have a wonderful day and Rock On 🎸🤘.
That has to be the best song for beginners because it's the easiest song in the universe and it will get their confidence up. It was one of the first songs I learned in 1973 and looking back it's a good thing because it took me a long time to learn another one...lol.
Just learning and trying to play along and my playing just does not sound right but I keep practicing and all of a sudden something starts to sound right. all because of your teaching. Thanks Lauran. Oh I forgot to tell you I'm 78.
i dicrovered ur videos on Monday, today is friday and i know how to play 2 SONGS : something i couldn't do in 5 months, thank you Lauren, i really appreciate you💜
thanks Lauren - I have enrolled in your beginners course and I love the simplicity of your lessons. I fiddled about for 6 months learning a few random bits from RU-vid but you cannot beat having structured lessons. I am so pleased I picked you as a tutor.
Perfect! Some one has asked me to teach them guitar. I've been playing for years but have never taught. So thank you, this is a perfect song for someone who's never played. A small amount of work for a big reward. Later I will teach the music theory but I'm trying to avoid that for now. Too boring!!
You might get a kick out of this. I'm an old man, with decades of experience. I'm a classical guitarist by training, and there's some chance you've heard my work. (I professionally played pretty much every genre but classical, some of it as a gun-for-hire studio player.) For the life of me, I couldn't recall the 2nd chord (D6/9 - I had it narrowed down to a D chord, but that was it) and try as I might my hearing wasn't letting me pick it out. I decided I'd be better off just searching for it, and came across this. I figured that'd be faster. So, you can say you taught an old man, with decades of professional experience, how to play a 2 chord song. Thanks!
@@LaurenBateman The day I stop learning is the day I hope to stop breathing. Lots of people think learning ends when school ends. No, that's when learning begins - as you've spent that time learning how to learn! 😀
I came from her finger practice lesson and thought lemme try this out and by the end I could play along with her !!!! This is my first ever learnt song since I got my guitar
hi lauren.. i just started guitar lessons a couple months ago.. i've had 6 lessons.. i was hitting a wall and my teacher told me to back off the obsessive practicing.. i figured with some of the chords he gave me to practice it sounded like a horse with no name.. ok.. it was a little off key.. so i looked up the chords and found your website.. my guitar teacher has been gone for 4 weeks so i got bored and figured i'd learn a song. yes i started playing guitar when i was 7 yrs. old.. also took guitar in the 10th grade.. last played guitar when i was 26.. gave it to a guy i met in a bar who came over to fix my fridge.. he fixed the fridge, admired my guitar and i gave it to him as thanks.. when i sold the house the fridge went with it and was still working. so i just wanted to say your website just made my guitar obsession a reality.. i really can still play.. and it got me over the wall and made it the fun i remember., now because of your website my neighbor has a old harmonica and wants to jam with me.. i'm 64 and he's 70 something.. thankyou... kat
I started singing when I was about 6 and quite when I was 20 and I finally picked it back up this year When I sing good I can't play the guitar very good but if I don't sing real good I can play the guitar better
Ive been playing guitar since I was abt 12 years old. Now 64 years old. All this time I never could play with a flat pick. Then I started getting hangnails and torn flesh that wouldn't heal. Found your videos, found a pick I could manage ( a Clayton triangle pick, size .50-.63, applied monster grips to both sides) I'm not playing with a pick and I love the punchy snappy sound and my fingernails are now looking healthy
Soy de Argentina y me enseñaste a tocar la guitarra por primera ves me aprendi recien la del caballo gracias por motibarme quiero seguir aprendiendo con vos ❤
man Lauren...tonight i did a few of ur short lessons then checked out other vids and found this..I ADORE this song,,,the lyrics touch my soul every time...and to now be able to strum along...i thankyou again for your teaching and time and such a beautiful voice...can't believe how much iv progressed in such a short time..they do say its always about having 'the right' teacher ! :)
👋 Lauren! I enrolled in your course 😊 I've learn so much thank you. In my thirties I took guitar lesson and 4 months in, I quit I couldn't play no even one single note and I couldn't strum I was so frustrated and at $35 for 30 min I had enough put the guitar away and quit. I am so happy now I can play a few notes and I can STRUM👏 I'm in my late 50's. Thanks again
Thanks for adding the multif-finger options. I watched a different video same song and really struggled on the transition. When i started with my second finger instead of first, it made it much simpler.
I just want to say. I've watched a lot of videos on how to play. And being a beginner, you are the best I've seen to make it so easy. Thank you and keep up the teaching
hey Lauren! so happy i found your channel.. i've fumbled through dozens of beginner youtube videos and truly felt something was wrong with me..lol..found you and i didnt smash my guitar out of frustration! youre a great teacher and i just wanted to say thank you! rock on!
This is amazing! I picked up a guitar and could play that song after just a few tries. I tried lessons years ago, but I got stuck and it wasn't much fun. This was fun.
I played along with the song on Spotify today, and I almost was able to keep up with the chorus. 😂 I love this song, and I am glad this is a beginner-friendly tune.
Hey Lauren I’m 67 and just bought an electric guitar about 2 months ago. I been watching you just about everyday. Trying to be patient but it can get frustrating at times. But anyway just want to thank you. You make it look so easy
Countless times I have scrolled through guitar lesson videos and so far they have all talked to me like I know far more that I do. You had me at 3 minutes with your patience and style. I will be checking out your lessons very soon. Thanks Lauren!
Shes absoluty fantastic. She took my "beginner scare" and made it in to something positive. Im on my 6th week as an absolute newbie, now I can do some fun jams for my self, and i even dared to try and re-string my brand new guitarr, just for the learning of it, it was a scary moment, but worked out just fine. Lauren just somehow took the scare away, and showed me to the fun.
...and timeing is everthing. L has YT class about, keep strumming in between cords.. That was for me, a magic revelation. Just keep the rythm and go with it. even if the guitarr goes boooing blaaang" :)
I have been playing the Guitar for 2 days and I'm guessing that I do not know how to properly strum because it sounds nothing like yours but please keep making these videos. I have learned so much from them! Thank you again!
You videos are so easy follow. I’m a beginner. Been playing about a year. Have an electric. But you slow it right down so I can follow. Keep up the good work
I am really progressing well with this song , fingers 2 & 3 suit me best Thank You 💕 Hey Lauren I Love your Elvis T shirt Looks great on you 💖 when you have worn it out and its all faded can I have it , it probably wont fit me but I can frame it and hang it on the wall to remind me of how much you've helped me 😉 🤗🤗🤗 🙏
Absolutely a great teaching technique that you have! Thank you so much for being down to earth, straightforward, and speaking in simple terms. God bless you
