@@jeffpittel6926 wow now that would be a cool one to own! I own three two-stroke lawn mowers two of them being lawn boys one of which is a commercial model which is pretty neat classic style deck just beefed up.
I never knew Briggs and Stratton made two stroke engines. This one sure sounds good, very smooth running. I think these late model ''OHV'' made in China engines are ok, but i think the OHV is what will stop them running as they get a bit worn, the older design 3.5hp side valve engines are much much more durable, providing you service them, they can last a very long time!!!!
They are called flathead because the valves are not in the head, they are ''beside'' the piston/barrel hence sidevalve!! The newer OHV BS engines are Not as tough as the old 3.5hp FH/SV engines
I use my mower as a snowblower in norway, and it works, starts up in -30*c, but if it get colder then that it won't start. It has a nice exhaust, and it has a nice sound. But a problem is that its flame out of the exhaust, s bit cool, but is it somthing bad?? ...
@@ils360 I have had over 1/2 a dozen of these engines back in the early 90,s when they were first sold and had bad results withevery one of them eventually. biggest issue is lack of primer -instead they had chokes and ALL became extremely difficult to start. the walbro carb is much preferred to the tempermental mikuni . I got fed up with the hard starting as I was using them commercially and replaced them with more reliable engines. I still have 2 and just play around with them. the deere one surprisingly hasn't had hard starting issues and was well used and abused when I bought it. the other is a brand new NOS one I mounted on another deere but never used parts are impossiable to find for these now smoothest running 2 cycle I have ever seen . 2 bad these were such a failure in the real world market. you can get the orig fact service manual on ebay .
@@super20dan are you by chance in Canada? I know they were really popular and sold a lot of them in Canada that really didn't see that many in the states at least not where I live
@@ils360 no I am in florida. this engine sold well at first and was offered as a comm duty upgrade on several mowers besides deere. I have seen them on ariens and snapper also . quickly gained a bad rap and were pulled from market after only 2 years. parts dried up immediately and most were junked . the only part aval is the air filter cartridge as it was shared with the briggs MAX series 4 stroke. I have a whole box of spares from some of my old ones from 25 years ago. planning to mount the nos one on a snapper and start using it before things go bad on it. engine was actually made by zenoha komatsu of japan for briggs.
i have one of these as well but mine is on a greenfield push mower. from what ive been able to find out they only made the 2 strokes for 2 years and they were made by suzuki for briggs and stratton .
They were not made by suzuki but by a division of komatsu in japan. Mine has the komatsu insignia on the inside of filter carb. Mine has no carb probs. Ive had 2 strokes for over 50 years, including australian victas, suzukis and tecumsehs and these briggs are the best and quietest and smoothest of them all.
if you need any parts for those 12 and 14 silver deck or the newer green decks let me know. i worked for a john deere dealer for 5 years and have about 6 or 7 of those things for parts.
I Have One LOL i Got It For Free but its got a dead tranny. But It ran Amazing, Then Randomly One Day I Tried To start it and it was Siezed!?!?!?! for no reason and yes i took the spark plug and it wasent hydrolocked, and i always ran it 40:1 and it was running strong. so idk its been soaking in MMO with auto tranny motoroil mix
the richer these things run the better they will go :) i have my one running richer than normal and i use it to cut my lawn each week but it just smokes a bit and eat spark plugs but apart from that it goes great. just dont wind it out to run to rich haha
