Hiking on Tenerife seemed to be the right thing to do on this island. The thrilling cliffs, the lush laurel forests and the highest mountain of Spain were very attractive to me, so, for my first adventure in Tenerife, I chose to discover a magical place in the north of the island - the spectacular Anaga Rural Park.
My trail started in the middle of the forest, from a place called Rio hiking towards Taborno.
From there I walked my way towards Playa del Tamadite where I started my ascent to the cliffs, where a big part of my trail was. I hiked a few kilometers and then camped somewhere close to Taganana, a tiny charming village next to the Atlantic Ocean. The next day, I continued to hike along the entire west coast of Anaga Park until the lighthouse, passing Benijo and El Draguillo.
After reaching the lighthouse, I continued my hike leaving the cliffs and passing through the enchanted forest towards El Bailadero. Some part of this trail I did in the light, and some in the dark. I was supposed to take a bus from there, but I arrived too late, so I had to find a different way to return back home to Puerto de la Cruz.
It was the perfect way to spend my Christmas and this hike only opened my appetite for hiking canary islands.

Yes, absolutely amazing island. I just visited 2 weeks ago, I spent there 1 week with my girlfriend. We reeeeally loved it. I like hiking as well and this island offers soo much for the nature lovers. I did pass anaga, by car, I did pass through clods, amazing pin forests, amazing roads..... And I feel I just scratched a little bit what Tenerife could offer. I'd like to come back one day, to spend more than one week, to hike much more, to visit amazing beaches from north-west I didn't see, in order to really enjoy this island as it deserves. Very nice video! And I'm glad that you are a true nature lover!

Thankyou. This reminded me of when I did a days circular hike Chamorga - Tafada - Bermejo - Faro - Las Palmas - El Draguilo - Chamorga. We saw 1 person - a local. We used a Sunflower guide and linked 2 walks. Didn't want to rely on the bus, so had to hire a car. That was 30 years ago. The scenery is still as fantastic and unspoilt as it was then.

That area is really amazing indeed! Really happy to hear it's as 30 years ago and I hope it stays like that for a long time. It's refreshing to be able to enjoy this scenery in solitude and quiet with maybe just a goat sound in the background to remind you that you're not completely alone. :)

Hey it depends on the travel, some alone some together. This hike I did myself. If you are scared from hiking, camping or traveling alone I would start slowly. Maybe travel first with someone together and then spend a day alone and then a night maybe 2 days, etc. Important is that you feel comfortable and there is no need to directly book a 2 week holiday on your own ☺️

Where to park there? What trail can you recommend for 1-2 hours hiking? Do we need permit to hike? Thanks in advance
@UntraveledRoadsOfficial
@UntraveledRoadsOfficial Год назад
Hello! 👋 For the trail that I did there is no permit require. The only place you need permit is El Bosque encantado, but if you follow other trails near it, you will see signs saying where you need the permit. There are shorter trails, mostly around the cliffs, which are spectacular as well. In some places you can park, but I do not know much about it as I took an uber to where my trail started which was close to a restaurant. For 1-2 hours trail, I would recommend Sendero de los Sentidos, which can be broken down into smaller parts and all start in Cruz del Carmen. It is a very easy trail, I think one of the easiest. Another short one is from Taborno village to Roque del Taborno and back. Taborno is a very picturesque village so I think it’s quite worth it 😊 There are longer routes along the cliffs which are 3-4hours long, but I think that if you want to see only a part you can go back after walking some time to accommodate your schedule. I saw many goats during this hike. It was really fun walking next to them. I found this website that gives more details about these trails and also where they are placed. Happy hiking! overhere.eu/blog/anaga-mountains-tenerifes-green-treasure/ Here you can see all the trails in Tenerife, their status(open/closed) and additional details www.tenerife.es/portalcabtfe/en/component/content/article/46-temas/medio-ambiente-de-tenerife/13579-senderos?Itemid=335

You have visited and spent your Christmas in one of the most beautiful settings in Tenerife, the Macizo de Anaga, wrapped in a halo of history and legends. Many names that you want to try to pronounce from different towns and areas are not Spanish, they come from Guanche terms or toponyms... Taganana, Tamadiste, Afur, Anaga... You really liked the solitary houses of La Playa del Tamadiste and those of the village of Las Palmas de Anaga, I don't think you can retire to these areas, because today they are protected areas, what's more, the local government plans to buy the Las Palmas de Anaga hacienda to restore it because it is a cultural heritage with a lot of history and today in dilapidated state. The story begins with the first inhabitants, the Guanches, but their economic heyday in the valley of Las Palmas de Anaga began in the 16th and 17th centuries with the cultivation of sugar cane and later with the plantations of vineyards. You will have seen old presses excavated in the rocks, this sugar and wine was exported to the United Kingdom and the Netherlands and other places in Europe and America, then the decline of the place began due to plagues, competition with other areas and the remoteness of the place and poor communications. The truth is that it is an authentic paradise and all crowned by the laurel forest, the Anaga rural park preserves a forest heritage of humanity and also has the largest number of endemisms of the laurel forest of the Macaronesian region, even more than Madeira... .

Wow thank you so much for your comment. I started to dig into the history of the canaries and it seems super interesting. Can you recommend any book about the history of the canaries especially also before the colonisation

@@UntraveledRoadsOfficial There are Many books in the bookshops where you can choose. Of course Guanche nowaday is the mame given for all the first inhabitans of the isles, but Guanche is only the name of the people from Tenerife (Achinet) , each island has its own name: Hero(el Hierro)inhabit:bimbache, Benahoare(la Palma) inhab:benahuaritas, Gomera inhab gomeros like today,, Achinet (Tenerife) inhab guanche, Tamarán(Gran Canaria)Canarí. ,Maxorata (Fuerteventura) inh:majos or maxos and Titeroigatha (Lanzarote),etc,etc. All these islands had kindongs in guanche from Tenerife MENCEYATO and the King was called MENCEY... I live and I from Tenerife, in Tacoronte, near you had been staying. You visited the part of the island where There was guanches till c.XVII this is while Anaga and Teno have most guanche words.....the spaniards name them ALZADOS, guanches free in the mountains with their goats,sheeps,etc and its steack for salto del pastor.........

Amazing thanks for sharing. I made a few weeks ago a small video about the Guanches, or at least I tried to discover them but it seems I still have a lot to dig deeper into. If you are interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JO-sNYzaowY.html

do you need a permit to go here? and do you have to get a car to come here?
@UntraveledRoadsOfficial
@UntraveledRoadsOfficial Год назад
Hey thanks for your comment, for the hike in the video I didn’t needed a permit, you only need one for the “enchanted forest” (el bosque encantado). Tenerife has actually an excellent bus system so from Puerto de la Cruz I could take a bus (over La Laguna if I remember right) to the start for going back you just need to check the timetables there are multiple buses in Anaga. Have fun
