Davion, I love your style. Do whatever comes to your mind, but for train videos I'll allways be there to watch them. I saw you were even in Europe and I for one love the Adriatic ferry connection from Italy to Greece. That involves a 900 miles train journey from the Netherlands (my place). If you ever come back to Europe, consider this as a possibility and have a look at the craddle of European history and culture in these countries, still beautifull and very hospitable. And nice food and weather...
Thank you for the kind words :) it means a lot! I’ll be back in Europe again later this year to make more videos soon. Ohhhhh maybe I’ll add the Netherlands 🇳🇱 to the list this year
Beaut vid, and most infectious style! More folk ought to take the train, and enjoy the journey. SW Chief is my most used route for decades (linking to MO River Runner)- like to see y'all's reaction to that route, and then why not some rail vids up Pikes Peak, or a narrow gauge?
Really loved your video. You have a wonderful open attitude but you are not blind to the problems. Would love to watch more train or general transportation videos from you
Davion, I’ve watched a bunch of RU-vidr on Amtrak videos, and yours was by far the best! You humanized everything! Thank you and if you’re ever down in San Antonio say Hi
Thank you, that really means alot to me. Train travel is one of my favorite ways to travel. Should I make more Amtrak videos in the future? Ahhh I was just in SA last week :/
@@DavionWest definitely make more Amtrak videos. If I were you, I would take all the major long distance routes. For example, Chicago to Seattle should have amazing scenery!
Im glad yall enjoyed the video :). I want to make more train videos but I wasnt sure if I should? Yall will love taking the Texas Eagle, I think its good for kids to see trains and to take them. They can learn about different cultures and people.
That man was had a good soul, and we talked for a while while watching the Texas landscape pass us by. It’s great and a smart thing to listen and talk with elders to hear their story.
Train rides are the best . We have taken the train a lot. Only way to travel . More people need to take the train and discover the piece of mind and joy while traveling the train. Life's a journey keep traveling.
Hopefully 🤞 more people will see how great train travel is for the soul and the environment. Within the next 15-50 years I think we will see surge in train investment and travel in the US finally.
Although Amtrak is ok. I still compare Amtrak to the days when the passenger trains were run by the private railroads. To be honest, the private railroads had more comfortable trains, more colorful looking trains, faster schedules and many many more routes and multiple trains in each direction. And one had a choice of which railroad company one wanted to take as there were multiple routes and multiple railroad companies competing for business between any two major cities. And there used to be many more dedicated passenger train tracks that have since been ripped up thus causing Amtrak to have to share track with the freight trains.
Dallas Union Station's ballroom upstairs is a BEAUTY.... However it books for special events, weddings, banquets, etc. Back during the hey days of railroads more than a half century ago the ballroom was used as the sitting room and passengers got to their trains by a foot bridge over the tracks with steps to the platforms. That foot bridge was demolished long before DART reconfigured the platforms to its present state. Amtrak uses the downstairs former luggage and package floor as the sitting area today, why it isn't as beautiful as larger Amtrak stations. Even so, it serves Amtrak very well as a sitting room today.
I'm going out from Illinois to New Mexico THIS summer! I didn't realize the Texas Eagle had an Observation Level! I rode on the Southeast Chief years ago & I Loved their Observation Level!!
I take amtrak every 3 months or so (next one coming up on july 16th) to see my husband who lives in another state from me currently, Im eventually going to move to his state, and when i do ill still be taking amtrak back and forth to see my family. My ride takes 19 hours to get there and i love every minute of it!
Wow! 19 hours of train travel every 3 months. I feel that since my girlfriend lives in Europe. The distance sucks but is well worth it. Even though Amtrak trains move slow when compared to other trains in the world, I think this is what gives it magic. A chance to really slow down in our fast world.
@DavionWest yes! And i have always loved trains ever since i was little they are just so powerful imo. I love seeing the places we go through. We go straight through new york to get there and i was like a kid in a candy store looking out of the window the first time seeing it.
Hello Davion. FYI, in the northeast part of the country, Amtrak has the right of way. Also, Amtrak has electric locomotives. I'm from Philadelphia. That's how I know. Amtrak also has the right of way over our commuter trains.
Thank you for the intel, I defiantly have to make my way to the northeast corridor and make videos :). The north east seems to have a way better transportation system than in the south of the US, hopefully we will get better.
I haven't checked out the rest of your channel yet but I hope you have a video of you and your Dad traveling by train at some point. My Dad has been gone since 2001. I would have loved to travel with him but time did not allow for it. It is a huge regret.
I’m sorry to hear that Trey… I have one video in Italy 🇮🇹 with him. But actually I’ll have a train video with him and my family traveling by train in the Uk soon. I’m trying to focus spending time with my family since we never know when we won’t have a chance to anymore.
Thank you for the kind words ☺️. Oh that will be fun and much shorter than my ride haha. Take a book, your laptop and just relax on your way to Cali. Have a safe trip.
THANK YOU for sharing your journey with us. Your comprehensive overview of the Texas Eagle 421 train. I am packing to travel from the the BIG D to LA and your video is right on time. 😂 on the food rankings! I'm vegan so I'm looking forward to what's available for me on the menu. Keep the travel videos coming! #airforceveterans
You’re going to have an awesome trip 😎 ai love train travel, especially that route, it really makes you sit back and relax. I’m glad you enjoyed the video :), I’ll have a train video from the UK coming out soon :). The Big D? Oh you must be from Dallas too if you know that phrase 👀😂😎. Praying they have good options for you with the menu. Thank you for the support and for serving our country.
@@DavionWest I did!!! I travelled from Dallas to Union Station in LA. Took the train/bus/train connection to San Diego. It took a minute to find the Amtrak lounge in LA but I was relentless since it was like night and day from the main waiting area in Union Station. My roommette was SUPER COMFY! I was thoroughly impressed with the staff. Your video was on point. Lastly, the vegan options weren't too shabby taste wise. I gave it a solid 7. Thanks again. Looking forward to checking out your UK video. Estar segura!
Trains are not the new wave. Before Amtrak, the passenger trains were run by the private railroads. In the 1960's nearly very town in the US. was served by a train. The trains back then were faster, more comfortable, more routes to choose from. When Amtrak took over the passenger trains in 1971 they eliminated 60 percent of the routes and downgraded service in every possible way. The passenger train traffic was reduced to trickle by 1971 as most people switched to flying and driving during the 1960's causing the passenger train to meet its near death. There will never be a new wave of train travel in the U.S. as Amtrak and the government butchered the system and it is impossible to bring it back.
I did the Zephyr and Starlight the end of November last year and think this has the Empire Builder is on the list for this year. Would you recommend doing the entire journey from Chicago or LA? I live in Houston myself and from FW originally but I need the whole experience 😊
The Zephyr and Starlight are on my list for sure!! I havent done the trip from Chicago to LA yet. I got on in Dallas, but I do want to do the whole trip someday!
@@DavionWest I’m actually thinking I might just do the entire Texas Eagle trip this fall and do the Empire Builder for next year. I was just sitting here thinking that last year’s adventure kicked my butt, but it was so relaxing.
Eventually I’ll get around to doing the empire builder and the whole Texas Eagle route :). Yeah long train journeys kick my butt too!! I’m thinking of heading to Florida and making a video on the new bright line trains
Amtrak is 2nd tier train travel. Before Amtrak, the passenger trains were run by the private railroads and they ran them on faster schedules, more comfortable rooms and coaches and many many more routes to choose from. And the food was cooked on board from scratch and there was more luxury.
I'm contemplating doing the train going home to FTW from visiting San Diego, the first place you went in the video, was that a roomette? Then the regular, plane looking seats that reclined, is that the business seats? Thanks for the video!
@@DavionWest Those are only available between San Antonio and Los Angeles and are only available because the Texas Eagle service btw San Antonio and LA only represent a thru coach and sleeping car that are attached to the New Orleans to LA Sunset Limited. Because the Sunset Limited has these amenities there’s no reason to exclude Texas Eagle passengers from these. The Texas Eagle runs as an independent train between Chicago and and San Antonio and as a thru coach and sleeper between San Antonio and LA. The independent train between Chicago and San Antonio has no sightseer lounge or traditional dining both of which it did have before the pandemic. I hope that will one day change.
@@DavionWest Summer is way too crowded. Anyway winter time should be beautiful especially if snow time. I travelled on it last fall 10/22 and it was pretty good but winter would be better i feel.
I would have to say the Steak for sure! I would say I got maybe 5-6 hours. And thats because we added a couple of train cars in San Antonio at night, so that woke me up.
I guess it depends how you look at it, California Zephyr is 845 mile. Texas Eagle is 2,438 miles, and the Empire State Builder is 2,206 miles. So I mean by total distance it’s longer yes but, the empire builder takes longer by time tho.
