Hello Calvin. As Paul 46 says we all make mistakes but its only a fups when it get onsite for the client to find. In the fabrication & welding game we learn from mistakes and move on. Every day is a day to learn more skills and we also better our existing skills to push forward to be the best. One of the things I say to young people whom are coming into this game is Watch, Look & Learn but do not be afraid to ask questions as there is NO Stupid Question ONLY STUPID ANSWERS. When i started out many years ago i only wanted to work with the best and gain there respect so i could learn more. Great RU-vid mate keep it up.

@ARC-ONE WELDING ahh right on I've only ever done it on stainless pipe joints. I've also seen a torch and wet rags used in the field but would never use that method
@jackthomson73

I’ve done similar fups at work. With the second one you might have been standing on the other side of the pipe when looking at the level. Still touches the right side of the mark but you are opposite to where you need to be. To eliminate that I set my pipe to perfect level and put my own mark on the bubble. That way I’m still looking at the edge touching but the workpiece is true level. Just what works for me. Good on you for showing a day where nothing goes right 👍. Nice to know you are human too 😂
@mrsock3380
@mrsock3380 Год назад
Use the centre of the bubble, I've tested it on a horizontal borer and using the same Stabila level set up many times and done the final set with a DTI, 0.2mm over 500mm is easily achieved with that level, doing it to the line is just adding another possible mistake, as you proved. Get a more accurate level if you need to be more accurate than that.

Try using 2.5mm rod bits like small wedges to pack out & centre the flange this keeps the flange square with little alteration. retired fitter/welder. Always check bolt holes, level, etc etc.

Well you got me to subscribe. I've only seen a few videos and I have to say great stuff man. I'm a structural fitter/welder and since your job has so many flanges then your 2nd fix is definitely better but if you had to save it then try using a scarfing tip or if you don't have one blow out the weld by feathering the oxygen and using a back n forth motion to wash it out
@jamienelson7544
@jamienelson7544 Год назад
It happens, I would dress the weld off outside and then carefully cut the face weld off, then a little or big hammer to knock it off, been there done that a few times. I always check the flange with a plate square and measure it as a double check

I'm a heating guy, I had to fit a set of bellows on site the other day and the elbow to reducer to flange was welded out of plumb, it was a complete nightmare getting it in with no leaks. Only has to be a few mm out and that's the job gone up the spout.

I would have air arced the flange weld off. Made it level then weld up .
@Thomas_Bampton
@Thomas_Bampton 7 месяцев назад
If you already have a decent stick welder and compressed air, an air arc gouging torch isn't that much of an investment and it will do a heck of a lot more good than its worth, especially when you have to fix an f up before the boss finds out or quickly when he does know and is breathing down your neck. and paid peice work it's probably cheaper for you just to invest than lose all that time. that said you gotta piss with what you got not what you want.

Thumbs up bro! I don´t know too much about MAG on pipes. Isn´t it possible to straighten these out using the acetylene Oxygen flame? On TIG/Stainless we do this even using the TIG torch to just straighten it. It surely works fine everytime..no cutting/grinding and all that. 30 minutes and done. But how is it on carbon pipes? Greetings from FRG.

Do these pipes get sent out to customers as is or is there an assembly at your shop? Yeah it was out of level and it's a bigger pipe but I've seen worse go through our assembly for natural gas gpu's and they made it work.

No air arc or plasma needed my man.. Throw a scarfing tip on that torch and go to town. If you’re trashing the flange anyway, you could scarf it off and have it ground ready to go in 15 minutes start to finish.

You could have save the flange…if you don’t have air arc to gouge the weld….you could have use your cutting torch to wash out the weld …instead of pressing the trigger, adjust your oxygen pressure using the knob…or .045 6” cutting wheel and grinding wheel will also do the job

My work has so many flanges i wasnt even trying to save it tbh so ive never explored any techniques that involve saving flanges, so ill take your word for it but what i hate about grinding flanges is the hot sparks that go down my neck id do anything to avoid that
