This is so encouraging to a self taught nail enthusiast like myself. When I first started doing my own acrylic nails licensed professionals were not so open with sharing techniques. I'm so living for this :)

I'm an assistant manager at a Sally's, here in Michigan in the US, and I always direct our customers to your videos when they are wanting to do acrylics or gel nails at home. All of your videos are very informative, and whenever you use products that I recognize from our store, it helps further my knowledge about that product. So, I guess what I'm trying to say, is thank you for all the knowledge that you give me, and our customers!!💜💜

My home town Sally’s employees know nothing when I asked them about the kits and trying acrylics the first time. I learned by these tutorials and many mess ups and finally got it down. And built up lots of Sally points and coupons! I wish all of them were as knowledgeable as you!

I'm currently transitioning from male to female. When I started my transition, I started watching your videos. What you said in this video, about not rushing to learn is what I appreciate the most. I spent all day today making mistakes doing my nails with gel. And I'll continue making mistakes to do it better each time. Love you gals.

You have to be careful with products of lower grade. I used Ebay products and ended up with allergies. Had acrylics done professionally but when I started doing my own nails a few years later, ended up with the allergies. Unfortunately I have to be so careful now as to products. Find that Brisa Gel, Silcare and NDED are great gels for us allergy prone gals. I use CJP acrylics and the Hema-Free Monomer.

I agree with Elizabeth's point of knowing the fundamentals! I'm a graphic designer and we were taught that in order to be successful in breaking the rules (aka being experimental and being expressive) you have to know how to do things formally. I guess an example is how many fine artists are quite abstract with their famous works, but all were classically trained!

The nail industry has come really far just in the past 10-15yrs. I first used glue on nails in 1963-64!!! as a 13 yo. I'd keep some of my allowance an go to the 5 an 10 (walmart type store) an every weekend I'd buy 2 boxes. If I remember correctly the cost per was just a little over $1.25. From then until 18months ago I kept my nails done. What I would recommend for every beginner is to hand file acrylic nails, at least once or twice. It helps learning pressure, smoothness, thickness of nails. Then of course move on to electric file. Oh, those nail from 1963 only stayed on for a couple hrs. before one would pop off. Lol. Thank you ladies so much for all the information you make available. This was a great video.

IBD is a professional product, and was one of the pioneers in the gel industry since the early 70's. I've used it for 25yrs in salon. I've been using gels since the early 80's. I use ibd hard gel. I can lay a set of overlays with ibd in under 5 min. I lay a slip layer and then apply my drag. I've been making my own polygel with ibd hard and clear acrylic to sculpt tips. It works great. I have to say that as a DYIer there is no way in hell I would pay $250 for a uv lamp let alone spend $500 for supplies. If I had that kind of $$ I'd pay someone else to do it for it me. Now do this with a $100 budget and that might be closer to reality. I bought a dip powder system from Amazon for around $50 and used my Dremel until I could afford a decent drill for around $40. The drill I got was one of the ones you reviewed actually. I love you guys but $500 budget is pro pricing not DIY

LoL Patience. Practice. Perseverance. The Three P's of nail art. The amount of time it takes to create a full set of short extensions on myself is always astounding. My first set with hard gel took six hours, with glitter encapsulated. That was a several months ago, and started from already bare nails. I did a fresh set of poly gel extensions, with glitter and glow-in-the-dark pigment this morning: five hours including take down of last set (down to thin base coat) to final top coat. There's one nail that may get refiled (how do I keep missing that corner?!?!?) but otherwise they look great. I am not a pro, but I am thinking about going to school and becoming one. I just really love doing nails. It's my Zen time 😊 Thanks to all the great videos by Suzie and Liz and all the other awesome professional nail techs and artists on RU-vid I am finding all the great information, tips and tricks it takes to be confident in my own ability. ❤

I do DIY nails only on myself and my hardest struggle is always finding quality products that I can buy without being a licensed tech. I have a full time career so going to school to become licensed isn't really an option for me :( I just wish it wasn't so hard to get ahold of the good stuff since I'm not into paying $50 for basic gel overlays. It's really nice to show the struggles we go through as DIYers!

Try Max's products, u don't need a license and its total quality. Hes involved from start to finish in everything that has to do with his products. They've also won awards and he uses only his own stuff in all his competitions. Suzie had Max on her show a few times also And she uses his Gummy jelly to adhere gems and his Shinee top coat. Max Estrada Enailcouture.com I use all of his hard gels My favorite is Candy jelly Eternal beige. All his stuff can be used together and I like his hard gel because u don't need a base or bonder but u can use it if u want. I just dehydrate, prime and apply n ur done. All his stuff smells like candy all the dust falls down and my nails last well over 6 weeks. Good luck!

Hilarious! If you two ever get tired of your nail gigs, I think you both have promising careers ahead as a comedy team! Keep up the fantastic work! 🙂

As always, a great video. And I have to admit that as a DIYer it’s pretty hard maneuvering with the products available (and their cost as well). One true thing about the answers you gave is that many of us don’t feel comfortable in salons so we do it ourselves (sometimes ending up with big messes instead of nails) but we always manage it thanks to professionals like you ❤️♥️

I was licensed back in '97 in California, I was so slow and suffered from lifting, bad! I had no clue about how to further my education so I let my license expire when I moved out of state. I would try to do my nails every once in a while but still had lifting. I'm not sure when I started to RU-vid videos, maybe about 2 years ago. I've learned so much from you and a few other channels! I've also recently started kicking around the idea of going back to get licensed again. So, thank you both for sharing all the information and knowledge you've learned with us!

I love these types of videos. I started attempting to do nails at 14 before RU-vid and the internet were available. It was A LOT of trial and so many errors. I went to a nail salon a few times and really watched their process. I bought supplies and practiced, practiced, PRACTICED!!!! Before I got into an efile, I hand filed. That was a pain but it made me a better tech. Time went on and finally in 2013 I went to school to get my license. I encourage everyone I know that wants to make this a paid career to get the education and a license. That can take you further.

I'm so glad u guys did this! I'm a nail tech that went to school but couldn't afford to finish and never took the state license test ( I'm in the states where u have to take a stupid test) so I really loved what Suzie had to say about changing the industry to let everyone have access to quality products. Luckily I've found many ways to get quality products to work with but I know a lot of ppl that don't and they buy those exactly kits u guys did and then they don't understand why they can't do and they give up, sometimes when they shouldn't have cuz it wasn't them it was the product. So ty guys for this video! U both are wonderful teachers 💅❤

Seriously before companies such as Naio Nails and Young Nails and Glam and Glitz and Glitterbells (and many others) came out allowing non licensed to purchase quality products, I used this! For YEARS!!! And I cringed through this entire video but I am so grateful that I started with “junk” products and brushes, because when I finally got my hands on some quality stuff my nail game was exponentially better!!! And once I got that confidence simply BECAUSE of the quality products, my techniques and 3D work came out!! I tried the builder gel too but ended up using that basically for a “top coat” over my nail polishes I still had before I converted to gel polish!!! I LOVE you ladies even more so for this video!

Great idea ladies! I'm a DIY'er and I watched your nail tutorials for a long time before I decided to try it myself. I wanted to get good quality product too. I ended up buying a kit, nail forms and acrylic brush from Max Estrada about a year ago. I was so happy I didn't have to be a professional to buy from his website and it only cost me about $40 USD. I also bought an electronic nail file from wish.com and it cost me about $15 USD. Although it took me about 4 hours the first time I did them because I had to file so much off. I was very impressed with myself. They didn't look that bad. I improved over time and have graduated to doing dip nails now. It's so much easier and only takes me about 45 mins to do a whole set with filing. I still enjoy watching all the nail videos on RU-vid though and I still learn things all the time. I would never let anyone do my nails though. :)

I feel as if this isnt realistic though... as I've been doing my own nails for years and I got started with a 25 dollar kit off ebay for acrylics. Eventually moved up to the revel dip powder which the starter kit is 50 USD. My uv/led combo light was 35 USD and my e-file was under 30 USD... the builder gel I bought which works great was maybe 15 dollars and I have decent brushes that cost less than 10 dollars. My e-file bits were around 8 dollars per bit. Meanwhile you go to a pro store that you can buy stuff as a non pro and spent 500 dollars... no one I know spent that much ever on starter kits etc... my gel polish normally comes from ebay for around 1.50 dollars for 8ml, or 3 dollars for 15ml. You dont have to break the bank to do fake nails at home!

Elizabeth’s story of how she got into nails really mirrors mine! I’ve always taken so much pride in having a fresh and clean looking manicure and pedicure. I’ve always followed nail techs on RU-vid, but Suzie influenced me to take things a step further. Instead of just regular polishes and basic tools, I now have a collection of nail products and tools 😂 my husband got me a UV/LED lamp as an early Christmas present (I say early because I was too excited to wait), and I have lots of gel polishes, tools, false nails, decorative items like gems and stickers to put on them. I definitely share the same passion as you lovely ladies. Thank you Suzie for inspiring me to get something nice for myself and practice my passion 💅🏼💗
