Hey house lovers and explorers! This video I filmed last year and yes I mis-calculate a time frame during it! :-) I take a look a two separate old rural farm homes. Both have been long forgotten in in rough shape. Still standing proud they tell a tale of hard farming life with reminders of how a simple generator for power and a working fridge were considered a luxury at one point in our past :-) Finding old newspapers under lino is always fun and one from 1939 along with some other 30`s hints tells us money allowed for some improvements.
A very old ruin at the rear of one cottage looks to be an early settlers home and out building with the in tact home built later around 1900.
Hope you all enjoy the explore. Cheers for watching :-)

Hi Paul. Amazing how they are still standing after all these years. A testament to the perseverance of hard working people back in the day. Thank you. ❤

Hey Paul. Another old beauty. Eventually they will just crumble back into the earth from whence they came. The old gardens, plants and trees will be the marker of their grave. Thanks. 🇦🇺

These homes do make your imagination run wild. Not sure y'all have the same expression, but I'd love to have been "a fly on the wall" in those homes back in the day.Glad you found those old girls.😊

Yes, time travel back to the past! To see these houses being erected and then finished. Families setting up housekeeping and making the houses into homes. I picture them working hard and also times of fun family togetherness, not everyone attached to their own electronic device. Also, neighbors were neighborly in most cases. Thanks again Paul . Until I started watching your channel I didn’t realize there were so many cacti in Australia😊

The trifecta of noxious weeds the peppercorn tree, bamboo, prickley pear cactus and maybe a boxthorn bush hidden somewhere that could be the fourth one would have been a nice house in it's time all the doors and floorboards may have been reclaimed for another house

I mean those houses were built to last, built with compassion & zest for life. Houses now are built in less than week as if being thrown together with 2 feet, then the next wind that comes along blows them down.

Paul These 2 homes must have been lovely in their day. WOW that newspaper you found from 1939. I’m surprised the rest of the house is still standing after the one wall fell in. The pigeons seem to have taken over this house. It seems people leave their homes abandoned and never return. At least they repurposed some of the materials. Too bad we couldn’t see the glass surrounding the door. I bet it was stained glass. Nice work Paul. Keep up the great work you do and we will see you in the next one. Stay safe and well.👍🆒

Thanks for 2, well 3 beautiful old homes! The relic with the packed earth on rock floors was a great find, so close to the "new" homestead! Beautiful, lonely places now. My grandmother was a small child at that time, in rural Victoria. I was obsessed with learning about the farm and life for her and her 12 siblings! I often dreamed, and day dreamed that's where I was ♥️🐎 That was like time travel, and so are your great videos! These farmsteads are my favourite, urban ex. make me super anxious 😱 these ones are perfect! I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go 😁👋

36:00 .. "1990, that's 23 yrs ago.." actually 34 yrs ago mate .. I would just like to add the architecture on many of these stone farm houses in South Australia indicates they were built by the same firm, so maybe the farm packages were advertised in Britain fr instance to lure a prospective "rural aristocracy" into Australia, whereas continuous cycles of drought, warfare and bad Government policy eventually forced the abandonment of their dreams .. a great many young men from rural properties like the ones we see on this site, and from the country towns that sprang up to service their needs, went into the Australian Army thru the Duntroon Military College .. they were in many respects the finest manhood Australia had to offer .. and we see just what it all came to, good video cheers :)

Hi Martin yes oops 23 years ago as I filmed these 2 last year :-) Yeah South Australia is renown for the use of stone to build homes. The highest ratio in Australia by far. Great summary on how these home came to be left for dead. We got it good these days in comparison! Cheers for watching mate :-)

In September of 1939 England declared war with Germany and in the same year a volunteer Australian unit of the 2nd Australia Imperial Force left to support of England. Yes, that house likely has some stories to tell.

That 34yo paper has nothing to do with last occupation, definitely left there some other way. That dilapidation and rot both inside and out is at the very least 70 years old. Nobody has occupied that place since the 40s or 50s.
