He did a great job but his pinhead (as with the hellraiser movies themselves) was very much a reflection of the era it was created in and that's a major part of what made the films work. Ergo the leather, grungy/bondage look tone of the coenobites and the films (at least the first two good, and the third OK, ones). Pinhead was Bradley's enduring magnum opus, his addition to cinematic history. He would not be able, or perhaps willing, to provide a new take on the character. For a new hellraiser film to actually be good, it needs to keep the spirit of the first few films without aping it; suffering, desperation and desire are hard-coded into human society and each generation has its own spin on debauchery - a good remake would reflect that of modern society. And for the record, the Pinhead design from the films is itself a reimagining of Barker's initial concept.

Yeah, no. He was replaced in Judgement by someone who did a great job, tbh from what I've heard of him I think he did just as much to ruin the character he helped bring to life as the writers who butchered his character, and the actor who played him in Revelations.

Paul T. Taylor is great Pinhead to verry better than Collins. But Doug Bradley is legend 😉

Apart from facial expressions, his movements are too aggressive. Pinhead was slow and rarely moved his head at all because he'd stare you dead in the face. New Pinhead uses WAY too much expression. Pinheads only expression was shown in the video when Kristy shows him a picture of his former self. That's literally the only time Pinhead gives expression apart from everything after I&II. I&II is the main story, based on the book. III was a cash grab IV can give some insight to the backstory of the box, but isn't a necessary installment. everything that follows is meh.

+rmhanzel 2 was not based on the book, it was however written by Barker. Personally I'm willing to go as far as Bloodlines, in my enjoyment of the movies, but not Inferno or any of the others. A friend of mine watched this and said it was closer to the original storyline but still so terrible he fears for the future of the franchise. Personally I'm not willing to do any more than watch a few vids on youtube to simple see how terrible he was.

Agreed you can tell this guy never really had acting Experience before whereas Doug Bradley was an accomplished and experienced actor which made the pinhead character way more intimidating

The only intention they had was hold the franchise. Obviously, they gave no fucks about the fandom. Can't blame Bradley for turning them down but I think is says a lot about the guy who became was cast as Pseudo Pinhead. Why would any actor take that job? Apart from paying the rent, I mean.

I agree with you. Doug Bradley is irreplaceable. However, I feel the same way about Robert Englund aswell. He's the only Freddy Krueger.

I agree. If you can imagine Doug Bradley doing the delivery here, the lines fit pretty well. But where Doug tended to oean towards a sort of, minimilist approach, relying more on subtle expression and vocal changes, this guy mugs the camera like it owes him money.

Indeed. I mean, he always seems angry, annoyed or at the very least, irritated. I haven't seen the movie, but from this, it seems like he is constantly pissed at something, whereas Bradley's Pinhead was always the symbol of sinister elegance. He was always this shadow in the back of the room. You know, the thing everyone in the room knows of, but dares not to talk about it, because it's too scary. He has a much more subtle approach not just as a character, but to the character. An approach this actor doesn't seem to get very well. It seems he doesn't fully understand what Pinhead was about. And I would understand maybe going a different route and perhaps giving him a reason to be angry all the time, like they did in Hell on Earth. That went against Pinhead's entire character, but it was gloriously executed and we finally saw some cenobites terrorizing a city, not just walking around bloody rooms dressed in BDSM costumes. But again, they had a reason for that. A reason, which in this movie, they don't. Also, they made a Chatter-girl. How does that work?

It's not what he says but how he says it. The voice was one of the remarkable things about the original Pinhead.

This isn't a remake, nor is it a reboot. The story behind this piece of crap is quite simple. As the contract stated Dimension films needed to put out yet another sequel, or they would lose the rights to the franchise. They where actually planning on doing a remake/reboot with Bradley, but it would've cost to much time, and that was something they didn't have. They did ask Bradley reprise his role but he declined, Staded that and i quote: I know that many of you will have caught up with the sudden burst of Internet chatter about a new Hellraiser film going into production, and will be keen to know whether I’ve been approached to play Pinhead again, so here’s the deal...I have been approached just in this last week (w/b 16 August) regarding a proposed new Hellraiser film. This is not the ‘remake’ which has been endlessly discussed for the last three years: with the working title Hellraiser: Revelations, it will be the ninth film in the series. I would stress that I have had no contact from, or negotiations with, anyone from Dimension Films: rather these contacts have been by way of private discussion with individuals involved with this project... Following these discussions, and after reading the script and giving it due consideration, I have decided not to participate. The ink is barely dry on the script, and it is scheduled to be in front of the cameras in two weeks time and in the can by the middle of next month (September 2010). The minuscule shooting schedule is more than matched by the budget...Whether or not this means that somebody else will be stepping up to play Pinhead, I have no idea. I guess we can watch this space together...One way or another, this does not seem to me to represent a serious attempt to revive the Hellraiser franchise. However, I wish everyone who will be directly involved in the making of this film, good luck with it. So you see, don't worry a real remake of the first one is on it's way. And this one will have Bradley back as Pinhead. And Barker will once again take on the role as writer and director of the film. So i hope that this wil ease your pain a bit ;-).

bob Dude even then there are tons of movies that SUCK! And the few good ones are mostly now indie films, because it takes less money to produce a poorly written film, than it does to spend money to produce an awesome one

I thought that the film was trying reasonably hard to at least be a tribute to the originals. Some of the older hellraiser films were equally dumb, but pinhead was always brilliant. If they'd just got Doug Bradley in to play pinhead then this could have been a reasonable addition to the series. My understanding is that Doug was not even officially approached for the role. I suspect the cast, director, scriptwriter etc were behind the film all the way, but whoever was holding the purse strings couldn't have cared less.

Accurate! I 100% agree. I can't entirely hold fault to the filmmakers; nonetheless, the final product left me way less than impressed. Some roles, like Jason Voorhees, I firmly believe that as long as you have the right build for the actor, anyone can play him. Pinhead is a different beast altogether.
