The soldiers on foot around the personnel carriers all have their weapons pointed in the same direction; the gunners on the two vehicles are "sighted outboard" to opposite flanks. Interesting...
There weapons are pointed in the same direction because they have to lift it up to there right shoulder to fire...think about it...if one was pointed to the right it would take time to bring up to the aim...no left handed sniper weapons....also the ejecting cartridge would hit you in the face.
I remember at my passout . The first time I had ever marched behind the Ps&Ds (Royal engineers but we were a Scottish regiment [71]) I was so proud, that even more than the training staff had said I should be, I was full of ' 'swagger'. Mind you it was pipes not this brass band crap.
Acutely be aware that we are 1 of senor royal regiments of Scotland and the fact that we have got a military band is because we where returning from active duty in the,,Afghanistan's, back to Scotland and we are not a Corp, like your royal engineers,,pipes and drums we lost some our friends in the conflict and we had to have the band of the royal regiment of Scotland,,just remember we doe other things that I can't mention in this column, but suffering your reply and rubbish about you passing out on your parade, this was a home coming parade and it is a,,,ordered fact that we have to have the 'crap brass;,you would say so remember that most of the PARADE was about coming back from action and receiving new colours and our commanding general was taking the salute,,so think you clown before you make stupid comments about this particular PARADE, and a every day occurrence like a stupid passing out PARADE some of the soldiers didn't come alive, so think before you leave stupid messages GARRISON SERGEANT MAJOR MCINALLY. @@edwardmcinally3378 Eh? Time to sober up or get a new keyboard, that is atrocious typing for someone who has risen so high in the ranks. Where do you get the idea that I was being down on anyone ? My pass out did make me proud, it is NOT rubbish. I feel a Scottish regiment should have pipes and drums not a brass band, that is in no way trying to diminish you(TINY) or anything you(TINY) achieved. I am NOT 'pissing' on these troops. I am merely saying, to me, a Scottish regiment should march behind Ps&Ds Actualy I am not that enamoured with military pipes and drums, but more so than brass bands, I prefer the "lets get oer the border an' intae these peepil" type of P&D music. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hnSNfxjrwck.html Note these are street performers not, historically accurate, recreators. I'm no expert but I doubt higlander troops wore walking boots or leather toppers.
I'm not sure why the photographer at the end was physically moving those pipers in different locations like they were some dolls. I've never had that experience before, and I personally feel bad for them. I understand proper photoshoots, but it just feels a bit rushed doing that.
The fact that some of the “English voices” probably have generations of relatives who have served in Scots regiments make no difference? in WW2 you’d have over 80% of non native Scots in Battalions…men from as far south as Brighton……you go figure….
Personally I am of the opinion that Pipes & Drums and Brass dont mix at all and shouldn't. Pipes & Drums is a sacred sound that should not be tainted or interfered with in any way.
They were given a bum steer that it was straight ahead. I had been that route with HM Marines Band and new they had went the wrong way. It should have been a right wheel rather than straight ahead.
