Just wanted to say thank you for this, I made one this morning because after working for around 6 hours yesterday and getting only 10 feet, I needed to try something else. I used what I had, which was a bunch of carriage bolts -- I used the bolt/nut side. I was stuck in very wet clay, literally like glue. I was able to get out in about an hour. Thanks again!

Try cyclone fence. Works great and is cheap. Cut about 12 inches wide and however long you want.

Could add traction/grip tape along the boards for extra grip. They sell it by the foot at hardware stores for metal steps or whatever. Or cover the boards with spray in bed liner for some extra traction. Maybe chamfer the end of the board to be able to get it under the tire easier.

Why not drive some lags in with an impact? Quite faster, I’d imagine

For the car version 1 inch TEK screws... (self drilling metal version if not too long are less likely to puncture tyre than the much more pointy wood versions the truck is to not drive on the sharp buts in any case ) ...with the proud socketed heads would work better - add a small stack of washers and use 1.2-2 inch - for a very robust gripping surfavem no nuts needed (or possible)

Made one my self this afternoon, measured at 2x10x4 and then cant find 2 1/2 bolts and no choice but to use 3inches. Total weight is 11.5kg.... told the guy at the lumber shop to give me the strongest wood they have. He told me back in his province, they use chains when the road is thick of mud, i told him i didnt know that and i only thought, chains are used for road with snow. Anyways, thanks man! SoCal guy but currently in the Philippines, hopefully i womt get to use the board when i go camping and will be passing thru Lahar roads and a couple of river crossing with my 4x2 almost SUV size vehicle 😆

Hi, Thanks for the video, it is very helpful. A few of questions if I may: What length bolts did you use? Looks like you used stainless steel. What do you think of some kind of rubber end caps on the thread side of the bolts (back of the boards)? Have you tried the boards in snow? Would you think adding a couple more washers to increase the height add to traction capability? I was thinking adding sandpaper to the unbolted part of the board. What do you think? I guess I'm getting warmed up. What about cutting each board to 6" pieces adding a double hing between each section to add flexibility? Sorry if I blabbered. Thank you,--B.P.

I'm thinking 2 plywood boards together would be many times stronger.. Just for the over kill factor..
