2 SINGERS 1 SONG - DISTURBED vs HENK POORT - SOUND OF SILENCE - Vocal Coach Reaction 

Yikes. Henk's growl is gorgeous. I love David, and I never get tired of hearing him do this song, but this is the first time I've heard Henk, and I love it.

No loser here, in my humble opinion. Two super talented men who have dedicated a lifetime to honing their craft. This was super entertaining, really enjoyed your insight and breakdown:)

These are both two very well performed versions of The Sound of Silence. Henk’s version was beautifully done and has the power and control that I would expect from a classically trained opera singer. However, I felt it lacked the emotion of Dave’s version. Honestly, I felt nothing listening to it. In the other hand, Dave’s version has the feelings of sorrow and angst and really tells a story. No matter how many times I hear Disturbed’s version I get chills and emotional. Maybe because Dave and I are 3 days apart in age and I grew up as a gen-x “latch key kid” that he speaks to me more.

Indeed, from what I've understood Henk Poort was using some vocal fry/distortion pretty much for the first time ever in that TV show, essentially doing so as part of trying some things that are a bit more in Floor's style in this song, in a Disturbed-inspired version, from the episode where all the participants sang for Floor, and the Phantom of the Opera duet he did together with Floor. Brave to step right out of his comfort zone, I think!

I am so glad I was introduced to Henk Poort through Beste Zangers. Such an incredible singer, and an open-minded and kind-hearted man as well.

Hank and David should do a live unplugged duet, I think they could really compliment and carry each other

I spent seven years in a church choir, learning techniques such as using your diaphragm, breath control, opening your throat, and using enough air to reach difficult notes. When I turned 21, some of my friends brought me to a bar to sing karaoke. There, I expanded my vocal repertoir. I wanted to sing a variety of genres, including metal. I taught myself how to incorporate vocal fry in order to sing songs by Slipknot, Hatebreed, Disturbed, System of a Down, Sepultura, and Mushroomhead. I discovered that screaming utilizes several of the same vocal principles as singing. From there, when I went to music school, I joined another choir for a couple years. I found that my singing on stage was much more powerful since I had learned how to scream. It's a challenging skill to be able to switch between clean vocals and screams, but it's so fun to do.

The two of them singing together would be really good.

I mean, Andrew Lloyd Webber said that Henk Poort was the best Phantom, so while clearly talented, Fry isn't exactly his wheelhouse. I loved beste Zangers for making singers come out of the shell. I mean, there's Maria Fiselier, an opera singer doing 'Lose Yourself' by Eminem, Floor Jansen singing in Spanish while she doesn't speak the language, a Salsa version of Hotel California by Rolf Sanchez, an amazing rendition of 'Bring Him Home' by Tim, who's never done opera/musical from what I can tell.. And it's all personalized for the singer in the spotlight that episode. I love that it's not a competition, it's just appreciation for one another as an artist but more importantly, as a person. Emma Heesters is certainly not the most talented woman ever, but she connected to Floor and her song to the point of making Floor cry. Gosh, now I have to rewatch the season ;)

This cover not only was amazing, but it opened up Disturb's music to a whole new generation of listeners, young and old. Nothing against Henk, he did amazing as well. But David's version always brings a tear to my eye.

I loved this double reaction. Henk really studied on singing with distortion, to honor Floor. It was the first time ever he sang that way and made a cover of the Disturbed cover of Simon and Garfulkels song. There are a few nice covers for you to react to and I want to mention 2 covers made by Nightwish. The first is Over the hills and far away. The difference between Henk and Dave,s voice is that Henk his voice is like a barrel of congac that has been maturing for 200 years and that of Dave only for 75 years. By the way i would like to hear Dave sing opera, operettas and musicals like Henk Poort

Beste zangers isn't so great but if think it is a low budget public TV show, 7 episodes shot in 4 days... amazing. They barely practice, can't bring people and it is really just a beautiful gathering of singers. And you really have the best start of RU-vid reaction vids..

Henk Poort is a star here in Holland. He was the ghost in the fantom of the Opera musical. Not whiteout a reason. His voice is from a athore plannet. Floor jansen and henk do also the fantom of the Opera in the same show beste zangers. Greets jacco from the Netherlands

I'm kind of late to this party. haha. Anyway, I watched an round table interview with Floor and Henk, and your comment about Henk being a "Father figure" was pretty accurate. You should do one of these videos but for FALLING IN REVERSE... They did the song THE DRUG IN ME IS YOU in 2011 but they did the same song lyrically this year 2020 and called it THE DRUG IN ME IS REIMAGINED... It would be great to see you compare and contrast the two versions...

To be fair, the older generation here will probably be very biased towards Davids song. I count myself also to that generation, and grew up with Davids version, that brought the song to a whole new level. And just as the first time you ate your favorite dish, the 200st time you eat it, it will never taste as good as the first time. So i was also heavily biased towards David. Although Henk stayed in the same league as David and did more of the same, in execution he is way superior, both in Dynamic range and richness of the voice. So for me the winner is Henks version.

Nice. I had an old Simon & Garfunkel cassette tape I would listen to as a child and this was one of my favorite songs on it. I really liked the Disturbed cover when I first heard it. I thought Henk did a good job here too. It's a great song.

The first came across as a performance? The latter was a demonstration and natural. Very different guys. But I'd say the first was out of a comfort zone and the second was at home.

i feel, showing david after henk, doesn`t do him justice. davids voice sounds so much weaker in the first part, than henks. david is waaaay better at the distortion, but that was to expected. overall, i like henks version more because henks voice is so much richer, but without davids rendition, there is no henk version. david brought this song back to life, and he did an amazing job 👍
