Technically that's not true. John Travolta wasn't a "Natural" dancer. Natural dancers were Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Sammy Davis Jr., etc., etc. When John was offered the role of Tony Manera in Saturday Night Fever, he turned it down because he couldn't dance 😕 The director told him not to worry and that they would teach him and he said he literally had two left feet. Again they told him not to worry and got Deney Terrio (The famous dance choreographer who later worked on Dance Fever) to teach John Travolta how to dance. He really taught him well because from 1977 to present day, John hasn't forgotten what he was taught 🙂
@@drock6966 well maybe he wasn’t a natural dancer, but definitely had natural potential, which needed to be brought out and refined, but once he got it down, he got it down. Like a hidden talent.
@@CBendana Natural potential? 🤔 He learned to dance very well after being taught by Danny Terrio and has retained those lessons. He admitted himself that he had two left feet and couldn't dance AT ALL. So the whole "Natural Potential" thing is a bit of a stretch 🙂 Let's just say that he learned to dance and can still hold his own on the dance floor.
@@drock6966 thats what natural potential is, just because you learn it doesn’t necessarily mean you will be good or great at it and definitely doesn’t mean you will retain it. Not everyone is like Michael Jackson that if you give him a step and a beat he can just outperform professional dancers who’ve been doing it for years. Dancing with the stars is a good example cuz everybody is given the same amount of time to prepare for dances, and week after week, you see who is getting it down more than others.
La Porte, Texas! My mom n dad took us to Gilleys when we were kids back in the 80’s...nothing like kids, video arcade games, country music, dancing, cigarette smoke and adults drinking all in one great place! Lol
I'm from Červený Kostelec, Czech Repulic - Central Europe. When I was little boy (5 or 6 years old) there was free country concert of czech country singers sometimes. I was there with my dad 4 times. Now I'm 16 and still love country & american way of life. (Czech country singers have covered many U.S. legendary songs) 🇨🇿🇺🇸
I drove with my new bride from Long Island New York all the way to Pasadena and then on to California for a honeymoon and spent Friday night at Gilley’s and had an awesome time. 40 years married and we still think of the time that we went there, great memories.
Wow that’s some driving and I sure hope y’all had fun ma Cher, how could you pass up coming to ragin cajien land. Y’all need to stop by and see us we have the best music ever. And many famous musicians and singers from her. Give me a shout out and I’ll tell you where to go. In the mean time listen to ma Cher Zachary Richard the best Cajun singer ever. And best songwriter. He sings every genre you can think of and speaks fluently our language. Canadians love him. I love his sing Reve, the cajien war song, it means wake up and was a warning the Bretagne (brits) were coming. But he has some awesome dance music too. My defan papa (departed sainted father) knew some very famous people that became famous singers and he rode a bus with Elvis Presley when he was at Louisiana Hayride.
John Travolta is probably one of the best actors ever. None of that same guy in a different role like most. He immerses himself in the story of every role he's played. Debra Winger is no slouch either, said she's retired.
This film brings me back to a simpler less complicated time. They didn't have much money but they were madly in love and young with their whole lives ahead of them. John looked so sweet and innocent. What a catch he was. That trailer they lived in would have been spotless if I were his wife. To think Cissy almost took off with that jerk until he smacked the hell out of her. She than realized what she really had and went back ASAP.
My dad was an extra in the end of the movie During the dancing scene he was the man in the black cowboy hat dancing with the lady in all tan leather He was wearing dark shades with the big black bushy beard
Gotta love this movie Y’all . The hardest thing about it, are the memories that come with it. Always wanting to be a cowboy and learn how to dance just like this perfect couple. Never know right, maybe one day I will learn, but in the meanwhile I already found my sissy. This movie has been getting thumbs up since the late 70s 👍🏻🕺🏼
Love this movie, I wrote a song about it. written by Ramona Byrd I watched him for awhile He flashed that 1000 watt smile It reminded me of a certain style It was like that movie Debra Winger starred in The one where Travolta called her Darlin something told me not to put my whole heart in I just wanted a cowboy to call me darlin I always wanted a cowboy to call me darlin Always wanted a white picket fence and a flower garden Like a dream I could feel myself fallin Always wanted a cowboy to call me darlin Music, dancing, good good times we went together like tequila and limes Break ups and Make ups, Smiles and tears A one night stand turned into 10 years Time passes and your feelings fled but memories of you still dance in my head I always wanted a cowboy to call me darlin Always wanted a white picket fence and a flower garden Like a dream I could feel myself fallin Always wanted a cowboy to call me darlin The mourners have all gone, and it’s just you here I just want to ask, one last thing of you dear Ashes to ashes, cry, if you must But before you leave my grave, Write “Darlin” in the dust.
First time I ever two-stepped in a honky tonk was at Billy Bob's in Forth Worth Texas, with an old biker man named Bobby who I met at The White Elephant Saloon. Definitely a memorable time!
Love this movie one of my all time favorites and it’s rare to here a 14 year old say this is one of his favorite movies some kids don’t grow up watching classic movies like urban cowboy
Brings back great memories of this era, although I lived in Corpus Christi, Texas at the time. Can't find good two step dancing in tourist bars, have to go where local Texans go to dance.
Thanks to this scene and this song when I first saw UC age 12... fast forward to college I found myself a VFW in SW Missouri and a good old country boy to teach me how to 2 step and 3 step! Now I teach every male friend how to 2 step (on the west coast where NO ONE knows how to 2 step)!.
When this movie came my wife and I seen it and loved it. We were just starting out our lives together. I lost her to cancer a few years ago and it’s still hard to watch this without her.
What a great movie, John is a great dancer. I would love to dance with him with my dress on. 👗👗I give this video a few thumbs up. 👍👍 Now here is my love to John Travolta and a few kisses from Kathy💘💘💋💋👩👩
Classic and cute onscreen couple, and Johnny playing hard to get. LOL. So glad the director James Bridges fought and won to keep Debra Winger on to play Sissy, even though the producer wanted her replaced. RIP Mickey Gilley
It's so funny she's asking John Travolta if he can prove he can do the 2-Step. I know he's Bud, but still. Always makes me smile and laugh. She might as well have asked Fred Astaire.
