I have seen way to many comments/posts saying 2 strokes don't idle... and worse, people saying you need to buy their upgrades to make them idle! This is all wrong, and I will show you! Hope this video helps! Enjoy!!
2 strokes absolutely can idle and should be able to. However it’s a bad idea to just let them idle because they tend to gum up the power valve and exhaust and not burn properly. The BeRad jab is kinda dumb. He never said a bike needs that stuff to run. He just sells it to make a motocross bike into a pretty solid trail bike.
Also, “properly tuned” is a broad statement. There are reasons for having a fat bottom end (motocross). And reasons for having a more lean idle circuit (trail). I think it’s kinda uncalled for to call me out like that to be honest. I’ve literally told customers that they don’t need to buy a Lectron before if their bike is already running well. That’s typically for people who understand jetting already and have spent the time to dial their stock carb in. The majority of people just want to get out and ride and not fiddle with little things like that to have a good experience. The Lectron makes that very easy especially for beginners who may spend a lot of time at or around idle. Stock jetting on a stock carb for any yz WIlL load up and foul plugs riding technical enduro. In any case, I appreciate your work in putting the video out and I agree with the intent of the video. I just don’t appreciate being called out falsely as if I’m making millions by ripping people off. I get so many emails from people saying how much better their riding experience has been with these products and yes, it’s how I earn my living. Are any of the products I sell NEEDED? No. I spent the first 3 years of off-road riding with a bone stock yz and managed just fine. That doesn’t mean that some products can’t make the riding experience better. And everything I sell WILL do exactly that. None of it is snake oil. I take pride in what I sell and I stand by my customers and their satisfaction. If people weren’t happy with the upgrades, I wouldn’t be in business. Do and say what you want, but maybe take into consideration the effects it could have on others. Ride on man! Let’s rip sometime.
What you guys think about Smart Carbs? I ride at about 6k elevation and jetting can be tricky. Just bought a new 200rr and someone said to throw a Smart Carb in it vs stock..
@@capsitan I could never justify the price. I picked up a used lectron for cheap and does just fine here all over Colorado. If you can justify the price, I've never heard a bad thing about a smart carb.
I bought a Apex XC from BeRad because I WANT to support him. He offers great advice. He tells you how to set up a YZ for trail riding. No you don’t NEED that stuff. But it makes it nicer. I enjoy what BeRad does and enjoy supporting his business along with making my bike an absolute blast to ride.
I think it may be the carburetor band. It’s kinda like the power band only located in the piston of the carburetor. Also make sure you put fluid in the power carburetor band because the crankshaft will run leaner if the radiator isn’t jetted right.

Lol, take a look at the 22 yz 125s. They come off the show room floor running like shit. They don't tune them. They just throw settings in from the factory and send it to the dealer, either at 0ft alt, or 4000ft alt and dont change anything.
That’s very interesting! Every bike I’ve ever looked at, at a dealer has idled… maybe just the one you are at? But at the end of the day a 2 stroke should idle.
I've bought various new bikes from different manufacturers. They send them to the dealers with the stock settings. Just buy the right jets for your altitude and either do it yourself or pay the shop.
The idle screw and pilot circuit settings will determine the RPMs of the idle, alot of MX guys just don't want their bikes to idle. I thought everyone knew that, just go to riding one day at the track wtf.
Well no sh*t they idle but they don't like to. All that oil not burning off at high temps. Never knew people literally didn't know they're fully capable of sitting there and idling.
Just got my first bike kx250 2 stroke 1999. V force reeds ect runs good but I have to crank the throttle to start it. And then it over revs until you let off but then you have to kinda hold it where it feels like throttle is pulling on the cable otherwise it slowly idles and dies. Lots of power idles good with grip held in right spot. If I replace the cables will it stop the bike from shutting off without me keeping the throttle grip being twisted back a bit ? I’m still learning surprised I havnt stalled it but personally uncomfortable rn because I can’t corner without breaking and keeping a bit of throttle so it doesn’t die. I dropped it today and laughed it off but I don’t think I would have if I wasn’t worried about keeping a bit of twist on throttle instead of just all break control
I’ve messed with idler screw I can keep it running great it’s just if you let the twist throttle retract itself fully that’s when it wants to shut off. Assuming that’s why there is a little to much play in the grip itself ?
That's odd I love the sound way better had 2 strokes all my life . I have buddy's with 4 strokes I'd rather the sound of mine . Love woods riding when it echoes !👍
