Great adventure Richard , cant wait for the next one . I kind of fancy doing a rough weather bivi after watching this , I must be going mad lol tfs ATB Dave
Dave you should so long as you got warm thermals and maybe some dry clothes to one night fine in a Bivvi in all weather I think I want try one night in the snow with the bivvi As well if we get any this year. Just starting the next stage today I still got another video of the last one to edit as well coming soon. Thanks Richard
I walked from Harrogate to Portsmouth in March with a mountain warehouse bivi as my shelter, If the weather turned I would look for stealth camps in church doors and village cricket clubs which always seem to have some sort of shelter you can get out the wind and rain. Save the hill for nice nights lol. Best of luck with your walk
Thanks mate. Yes that's what I should done but in the area I was in was not much on way of shelter. Still was a great experience. I got more videos coming soon. Thanks for watching. Richard
It’s a Experience that’s for sure Richard, you’re videos make me want to quit the job and live out of a bag again! I’m walking Cambridge to Stonehenge end of the month. Icknield way to ivenhoe beacon then the ridge way to Avebury and Stonehenge. How many miles a day are you doing ?
A shame about the bivvy, Richard. You did well to persevere through that weather! Good to see Twmbarlwm. It's been recommended to me a few times as as place worth visiting. I'm not sure whether all black bags go immediately to landfill... I know that some "general waste" is sorted before it goes to landfill. But still, I share your concerns. Thanks for sharing and all the best.
It is a great hike along there and i am sure it be even better in good weather. The fort and mound there is impressive and to think i use to live in the area i never realised at time such a place existed. I thought on some future hikes i can make more of a reuse of my rubbish such as bottles and some the dehydrated food packing can be used after cleaning out as a water proof pouch or even could use keep tent warm in winter adding warm water to them :) Thanks for watching mate. Richard
Thats my old walking and cycling area in my 30s when i lived cwmbran from twmbarlwm to cwmbran, looks like your heading towards abergavenny, that bit between pontypool to Abergavenny used to by my playground when I was a kid.
Interesting videos especially as I had to cancel my plans to do the Cambrian Way this summer. All booked for next year. Thanks for preview. You’ve certainly embraced light weight compared to your usual pack. Personally I’d stay put in lightening I was up high in similar situation and it soon blows over. Statistics in your favour
Sorry to hear you had to cancel. Same here kind of my original plan was do whole thing in one go but due to what's happening it's not so easy changing my gear up I normally use library's and churches but I can't really do that now. I am now doing it in stages. Just starting next stage today. This time a bigger bag still lighter than I use to do. Taking the tarp as well as the Bivvi this time still works out lighter than the tent I got. Weather looks a bit better this time. Richard
That was a good one Rich. I used to swim in Pontypool and know it's nowhere near the English border that's near Hay On Wye. Anyway, plenty of moody cows along the way and moody weather to. I don't blame you for being spooked by the lightning. You know how to make it a little tougher. I look forward to seeing how you replace your mat on the way. Well, good going. Mark
I admire your bivvy approach. Hard school especially for a 300 mile walk over 72000ft. I try and keep my weight as low as possible but I will take the Z Pack Duplex tent when I have a go at the Cambrian way in June. It is lighter than most bivvies and totally waterproof if erected correctly
Hi mate, Thank you. I did not do the Cambrian way all in one go could get enough time to do that so i using different types of kit on the trail. But i have got in my head i want run it in one go with a bivi bag. Its a fantastic trail and i found it more hard going than the Cape wrath trail which i done twice in one go. Enjoy mate let me know how it goes. Ta
You seem quite bold and undeterred, yet large beasties (cows, bulls) always make me nervous, and often force a re-route safely around. I can never understand why major national path networks are allowed to have huge freaking livestock upon them. Kind regards.
I would say problem is lot trails go though working farms. When they do fence of the path from the cattle they tend to let the path overgrow and becomes impassable. Most time cattle are fine. Mostly problem for people with dogs. Thanks richard
Need a tarp with bivvy. See Simon a bloke in the woods vids. I nearly walked off a cliff in the dark once. Also lost a tent in a storm 10. Can laugh about it now.
Hey - what was the temperature? Could it have been condensation inside the bivvy? Update: maybe consider a small lightweight basha tarp over the head end of the bivvy to keep you and your stuff dry and give you room to prep food etc.
Not sure maybe 3c that morning. Thanks i check that tarp out. Thank you for the advice mate i look more into it now i think. Got a rab light weight tarp but i think the weather report for for no rain clear sky think why i did not take the tarp in the end. Thanks richard
@@4seasonbackpacking it may have been condensation then at those temperatures.. If you've got an ultralight small tarp, something like a 2.1m x 1.5m, it packs down into nothing and can save your bacon if you get caught out. AliExpress do a 15D Silnylon Flames Creed in green for less than £10 delivered and you wouldn't even notice it in your pack. Link: a.aliexpress.com/_mqiAfmr
Depens was much more a pleasure hiking but the tent would been better for the end the day. I have seen a good light weight tent be good for mountain trails but bit to much money. Richard
