Our service contract has always included an initial deposit or mobilization fee with periodic installments for a percentage of completion or an official notice to proceed. We have added the retainer concept, applying this option more recently to our productized services. Great explanation. Easy to understand.

Fantastic, bottom line and very helpful video! I have left employment as a physician for a fortune 500 company now entering into consulting arrangements with them. I’ve already established my worth and therefore retainer for access approach makes sense. But my question is can you hybridize the two with a “up to certain amount of hours” access retainer and everything over and above that charged hourly. Reasonable possibility or bad idea?

great video! couldnt agree more! I am a web developer / seo consultant and my best client is on "pay for access" model. He doesnt pay me much ..... BUT HE KEEPS PAYING ME FOR 5 YEARS or so and I do ... NOTHING now

That's great you've setup a long-term retainer with your client SonnyBoy. I personally always find ways to add value for my clients even when on a pay for access retainer - It can and should be leveraged ie. doesn't have to take a lot of time to 'do' .
