I have a 5.5 year old toy aussie who protects me around only certain people/dogs. He will bark or get aggressive or sit in front of me. But it's only certain people/dogs. We have 2 other did in the house that he can play with just fine but also get aggressive around food (I think the older dogs taught him that though). I love the bond you and Frankie have. I enjoy your videos! I hope to learn more about training and the things I can do with my aussie. He is like my therapy dog! I wish we had parks like you to go to!!

She was 7 months when I rescued her from a co-worker. She's 5 years old and she still behaves the same way, but I'm not going to give up on her. I have 2 other dogs and three cats and she interacts just fine with them. Any suggestions on correcting this behavior?

I'm very interested in a mini Aussie. I have a three foot wire fence, enclosing an entire acre available for exercise and play. Personally, I agree with you. If your dog isn’t in your sight you don’t know what’s going on. The one thing that absolutely terrifies me as a dog owner and hiker is having a dog run up on me/us and I don’t see their owner anywhere. That has ended badly for us more then once. Meaning we both got attacked. I am in no way saying he is a bad owner but I think it’s always a good idea to have your dog in your sights. What if it ran up to a leashed unfriendly dog? That happens all the time. That owner is now responsible for trying to manage a situation you put them in. Both dogs could get hurt and you’re too far away to help. So many things COULD happen that I think many owners don’t think of. At the end of the day, our pets are our responsibility. Keeping them safe is number 1.

I am not a dog trainer - just wanna be clear so I don't necessarily know the answer. But what i have done with frankie is use distraction as a tool. So if he see another dog, I will actually tell him to sit and just feed him treats until the other dog passes. So instead of saying how bad he is, i am rewarding him for doing something different.

I’ve had my boy for almost 2 years. I just got a 6 week old aussie girl and now my boy is super jealous. I know this because if I pet the girl, he barks at us. If we play, he “acts out” by grabbing our shoes or clothes and running. He won’t come to us if we call him and have the girl with us. AND if their cages are too close and the girls paw is in his cage, he gives a warning growl/bark. Otherwise, he leaves her alone but I know he gets jealous.

I adopted a two year old Aussie from a breeder as well. She has all of the same anxieties and personalities as Indy. She had already had two litters when I took her. They did not like the colors she was throwing on her puppies so they sold her. She’s the best dog in the world for me.

What a sad and materialistic world we live in.. I still remember when my mom was getting our family dog as a puppy. The breeder one day called and said that “she didn’t know how to say it” (at this point my mom thought the dog was basically dead) “but the dog we were waiting for had lost the colour on the nose as she got closer to two months”. For the breeder this was such a horrible thing that she offered tho annulate the purchase of the dog. Just because the nose now had some pink/white and wasn’t all black.

Just an fyi: Australian shepherds are NOT size variable (standard says they come in one size and that size is not to be sacrificed for quality), BUT there is another breed that is stemmed from them using selective breeding called the Miniature American Shepherd. The difference between them is that Mini Aussies are not registered with the UKC, AKC, CKC, or other major dog clubs, and that MAS are generally better bred by reputable breeders than "Mini aussies" are. Here is a list of Canadian/USA ethical breeders I HIGHLY recommend if you are looking into getting one of these dogs: Bertrom's MAS Flying M MAS Dynasty Minis Cornerstone MAS Tanasi Bluff MAS Skidmore MAS Meadow Run MAS Flightsong Minis Casita MAS Hampton Hills MAS Mill Dam Creek MAS Exquisite Aussies Crimson's MAS Wigglebutt MAS Riverside MAS Sidekick MAS English Farm Kennels Epione MAS

Moonbaby is actually not reputable. They're a borderline BYB and have dodgy ethics. They've produced a lot of dogs with eye and other health issues. Pretty sure they produced a double merle litter, too.

Get your aussies with a tail!!! Many of their beautiful tails get docked for outdated reasons!
@shadominx3696
@shadominx3696 3 года назад
@@sindylouwho5781 pretty sure injury to a working breed's tail isn't outdated. You're the same person who would take a 6 month old puppy to a vet for pediatric spays/neuters. Odds are that same vet supports and performs declaws on cats, too.
@shadominx3696

@@sindylouwho5781 www.google.com/amp/s/allaboutaussies.wordpress.com/2008/08/15/why-are-aussie%25E2%2580%2599s-tails-docked/amp/ "As dogs assisted man in the field, herding or hunting, their tails could be a magnate for foxtails and a host of other burrs and stickers, which could cause trauma to the tail. Consequently, tail docking was implemented to avoid injury and infection. This is one of the reasons natural bobtails were valued and bred for." This isn't even going into discussion of injuries gained on the farm. Tails smashed, caught either by cattle, sheep, horses, other animals or equipment, bitten, trampled, etc. Many people get reputably bred dogs from ethical, reputable breeders. BYB's are generally the ones to leave tails intact as a marketing scheme. Tail injuries are one of the number one issues with working dogs. A breeder has zero way of knowing if a dog will end up going into a working home/environment until after the litters temperaments have been tested at 7 weeks of age. Pretty sure you whining about their tails being docked between 1-3 days old will be even worse for said puppy at 7 weeks old. ASCA has proven there is little to no pain and the muscles in the tail haven't fully formed yet at this age. Therefore... You're whining over something you have no idea about. In other breeds, such as Dobermans, where docking and cropping both ears and tails is required, it's done for a reason. These breeds are often plagued by chronic, nasty ear infections and tail injuries as, once again, these dogs are primarily a working breed. And often go into working homes. I would rather get a well bred puppy from a reputable breeder who docks and/or crops as per breed standard because they understand their fucking breed, than a BYB who markets to people like you who would turn around and spay or neuter a dog pediatrically before they've even finished maturing. Which, most breeds mature at 2 years old. That, or people like you generally declaw a cat because their precious furniture is being torn up, due to idiotic lazy morons refusing to take the time to train said cat to use scratching posts and trees. Either that, or the cat has nowhere else to scratch because the owner is a selfish asshole, so he's forced to do it on furniture. So, shove off with your whiny rhetoric about something you know nothing about. Your ignorance is showing. Ignorance isn't bliss in the animal world.

You won't see this But my pitties get jealous of another dog getting attention They will cry, or give you that sad look....or what I been experiencing, which hurts Is losing respect I love my pitbull so much, but after getting a new puppy, he's been upset He was so used to being the vavy and getting all the attention in the world, getting everything he wanted Even getting toys off the floor while he is crying about it on the ground from the couch...he's spoiled rotten But after the puppy came and the puppy following me everywhere and I'm having to watch it, train it My pitbull gets sad I do spend time with him But sometimes the puppy gets in the way Or if I touch the puppy anytime after our cuddle moment, I feel like he hates me all over again I bet I'm over thinking this, but it makes me depressed on the daily

I definitely disagree with the “dogs don’t get jealous they are guarding resources” thing. I mean, it makes sense to a point. But if dogs were not emotionally attached to us they wouldn’t release epinephrine when we make eye contact during pets and scritches. Dogs have evolved with us side by side over the last 12,000 years! 💪🏽🤯☺️ at this point it’s rude to boil it down to survival and resources. At first I thought - well that makes sense. Then I realized - there’s technically science that says otherwise. ☺️☺️☺️ I’m not goina treat my border Aussie like a resource hoarding robit 🤣🤣

My dog absolutely gets jealous of my cat. I acquired my cat 3 years before my dog, which is weird. If I play with my cat my dog will whine and eventually come over and scare the cat away. She is never aggressive, just a big baby. It’s been almost 8 years and that hasn’t changed. Basically, I’m saying there is totally a such thing as jealous dogs lol because I live with one. Though I think this stems from how young she was when I got her. She is a personal rescue and was 3 weeks when I took her in. I weaned her myself and I think that’s where her childlike jealousy in the home comes from. She is only like this with the cat, my other fur kid lol

I had a jealous dog as a kid. I'd had him from day 1, and he was my constant companion. There was one time I was getting beat up, and I was yelling for help, and he heard me and came running and (he was a Chihuahua/terrior mix) jumped and launched himself at my attacker, managed to bite his face, and when my attacker ran off, he just kept licking me. But yes, he was very jealous of other dogs, and would not let his littermate near me.

Not one in a million. I’ve had 5 Aussies and they were all extremely smart and loving. I only had one problem with jealousy. My girl is jealous of my time and attention, so when we got a new pup, even though the baby was properly submissive and did everything right making up to her, she wanted her gone, growled and hissed at her. I had to put her on her back and let her know I wouldn’t put up with that behavior. It took several months before she completely accepted baby and played with her, but at least she stopped that awful growling and hissing.

Socialize (or expose, as he said😂) them early. I owned standard Aussies over 15 years. I had them on rural property and right in the middle of New Orleans proper. As with a lot of dogs, when my female had pups she started with dog aggression but that is normal bc the pups were still around.

I have started my research on Mini Aussies, this would be the first dog i have ever picked out that i really wanted and did real research on. It'll still be a few months till I am ready to purchse. I do want to go for a puppy so i can train and acclimate it to how i want her to do things the first time, like you said puppys just have to learn something, not forget and learn again or a new way. I am so excited. I am a bit allergic but i feel like with brushing everyday and maybe grooming with shorter haircuts, i live on the Oregon Coast, it doesnt get that cold really, ill be okay with my allergies, especially if i get as a puppy so my body can adjust. your vidoes are really what have hooked me onto these dogs, and i plan to watch as many videos and reearch a ton before putting down money, but i am so excited!! thank you for posting, i super appreciate it!!

She is a mini but i would say she is a medium sized mini 30+ lbs. please give me the brand of harnesses you use. I like them. Aussies are truly velcro dogs....but sooooo quick to depart if they love chasing squirrels. How can i stop that ? ( she always returns but i consider the behavior a bad behavior. She is almost three. I got her out every day for walks when she was a pup. At 75 that was my exercise...since then my health has gone down hill. Feel awful not walking her...but she has been by my side tolerating my lack daily exercise. We play ball in the house and pull,! Covid has changed so many lives😢🐾 rita TexasBarngirl

Mini Aussies aren't a thing. Mini Aussies come from backyard breeders, puppy mills, pet stores, etc. What you want is a Mini American Shepherd. Which is recognized by all major kennel clubs, has it's own breed parent club and code of ethics as well as health testing protocols. They're the product of breeding Australian Shepherds down from the standard size, to the smaller sizes Mini American Shepherds are known for. Just want you to know some of your information (most of it) is wrong in your video.

Hi just found you! Your pups are beautiful. We just got an Aussie, 14 weeks old Named her Scarlett. Have had her for only 3 days. She has handled the transition beautifully. She was brought into a family of 9. Youngest is 13. And a 9 mo old Golden Retriever. Day 1 she had first car ride, first bath, endured hair dryer, nails clipped, held her own with the much bigger Retriever. She hasn’t displayed any destruction behavior. Is social and is recognizing demands. Our only issue is potty training. In the time that we’ve had her, we have not had a successful potty outside. She has started to go to the door but when she is taken out she does nothing. Last night she slept thru the night, was taken out first thing this morning. No go. She held it for 2 hours after she got up. We had her out most of that time. Do you have any suggestions?

I know that Humans are much more than a "Food Source" to their Dogs and I can easily prove it. Just look at all of the Dogs that have died while trying to save a complete stranger. Any Dog that would lay down their own life for a Human Being knows that our connection is something special. Peace.

I wish I could go out with my german shepherds off leash without worrying about other dogs. Although show line german shepherds and some mellow working lines tend to be accepting of other dogs. In my experience working line german shepherds are not really „dog park dogs“. Other dogs tend to be seen as rivals and not as playmates. Most of the time you‘ll see them bullying and harassing other dogs. Same sex agression is especially present in working german shepherds with female on female agression being the worst. Some breeds just are more dominant and naturally less accepting of other dogs then others. So while I agree with you that socialising is very important and it can deffinetly help, not all dogs or breeds are accepting of other dogs. You‘ll see very often how new gsd owner will complain how their gsd‘s started out being very friendly and playful with other dogs only to suddenly become reactive after reaching puberty. It is very comon and in my opinion completly okay for my dogs not to like ither dogs. However they should ignore them and behave on leash instead of turning into leash reactive monsters. My female military working dog is a dominant b*tch with other dogs and especially females. So I just avoid dog parks and off leash dogs, she has no problems behaving on the leash though. My younger male was doing great until he got attacked by off leash dogs several times, with one of them leaving him with a big scar on his face for months. So yeah, now we‘re working on that.
