10 times. That's how many times I used the word "Transparent" during the video. I'm only telling you this in the interest of remaining 100% transparent.
I have been struggling with some dynamic vocals using only compressors a few weeks ago. The gate technique solved that problem. It is easy to dial in the correct settings. Makes vocals sound very professional.
Grazie, sei troppo gentile. La mia mente non si ferma mai, il che è una maledizione, perché di solito ricevo le mie idee migliori prima di andare a dormire!
Daniel Jason Booth is an audio magician! I fucking love fucking laziness! I was said to be a lazy fuck simply because I am efficient. Some rulez are meant to be broken. Appealing to antiquity is not always a good thing. It is unfortunate that I could not follow the first technique because I do not have that gate plugin, and I am doing audio stuff only for fun and learning. Thus, I use mostly free stuff. Thankfully the second technique is the one that I can do because I can use existing compressor. I do hope that the second technique is as 'transparent' as the first technique. I presume the first technique is the most transparent one of the two.
I am confused. About the second technique with a compressor, how can I hear, see, or know there is distortion with the release time? When to decrease or increase release time?
With experience you'll hear it after reversing the audio back around. Just set the release time long enough that it doesn't lock down the compressor into the phrase that follows afterwards. A quick release will create an abrupt change in the audio which will add a distorted quality to the beginning of each phrase (after turning the audio back around that is)
@@SPLMixing I did it, Daniel! I use lousy Reaper's General Dynamics and Reacomp for all two techniques (one after another as shown in this video), but they work! I use 'clean' pluck sound generated by Audacity so that I could see exactly what the heck those effects are doing to a sound. With oscilloscope, that is. Those two techniques plus oscilloscope seriously take the last brain cell out of an already stupid and lazy person that I am. No guesswork. No hearing nor feel required. Merely see and get the hit, way more 'transparent' than following hearing/feeling. Technology makes humans more and more stupid and lazy, as some people insist and believe.
