My experience: My AllTrails route can be found here: www.alltrails.com/explore/rec.... After hiking the many mountain of Kuju the day prior, I had booked 2 nights in Beppu at "Resorpia Beppu" in Beppu リゾーピア別府 (maps.app.goo.gl/CW4QLox3aVcfZ...) which I found via Booking.com app which works very well for last minute bookings and changes. The first night was spent soaking (in the onsen recouping from that same day hiking) and preparing my gear for the following day. I left onsen early the next morning around 7 AM, stopped at FamilyMart Beppu Interchange ファミリーマート 別府インター前店 (maps.app.goo.gl/fNswWneFyGkZ4...) located close by then headed to the Yufu Trail head parking Tozanguchiyuryo Parking Lot 登山口有料駐車場 (maps.app.goo.gl/ioXisT95HxTve.... I believe parking here was about 500 yen for the day.
From here I started the hike (there are some restrooms and free parking directly across the street. Additionally there is a bus station that you will either arrive buy using the bus or return to when you take the bus back from Beppu Ropeway Bus Stop 別府ロープウェイ(maps.app.goo.gl/VtTSV6eoftaQK....
Anyway, from here I had a total move time of about 5 hours and 20 minutes up Yufu and down Yufu's backside, over to Tsurumi. I ended up taking the ropeway down. I want to say I actually completed the hike around 3 PM or later given time on the mountain talking to people, etc, so I just took the ropeway down (which save about an hour of additional easy downhill. Overall very good, aggressive and vigourous hike experience. The trail redirect I found on Tsurumi was not well marked. The trail was not well trodden and with all the fall leaf cover was difficult to find trail. The fluorescent tree markers were also sparse in some places and I even with using AllTrails, I walked off trail and direction about 10 times.

About: Mount Yufu (由布岳, Yufudake) is a 1,583.3 m (5,195 ft) volcano, located on the border of Yufu and Beppu, Ōita, Japan. It is located within Aso Kujū National Park. Mount Yufu is a stratovolcano. It has two peaks, called ‘Higashi-mine’ (East Peak) and ‘Nishi-mine’ (West Peak). Nishi-mine is about one meter higher than Higashi-Mine. (Source: Wikipedia)
Geological Summary: A group of lava domes rises above the hot spring resort city of Beppu on Japan's Inland Sea, possibly within an ancient breached caldera. Two large lava domes, Tsurumidake and Yufudake (the highest at 1,584 m), are located at the east and west sides of the complex, respectively. Three smaller lava domes are on the N flank of Tsurumidake, including Garandake. The latest activity at both the andesitic-to-dacitic Tsurumi and Yufu groups postdates the 6,300-year-old Akahoya ash from Kikai volcano. Pyroclastic flows dominated during older eruptions, whereas lava domes and lava flows are most common in more recent eruptions. An eruption about 2,200 years ago from Yufudake began with collapse of the N flank that produced a debris avalanche and was followed by lava dome growth and associated pyroclastic flows. The most recent known eruption was from Tsurumi in 867 CE, when there was explosive activity from the summit area. The colorful hot spring pools and mudpots of Beppu along the coast are a noted thermal area. (Source: Global Volcanism Program)
