I’d love to see what would happen if you use a toothbrush to flick alcohol on a painting, so you get an even smattering of tiny droplets all over.

I don’t think the alcohol will continue to degrade the paint. Once it evaporates it’s done. I too preferred the one on the left prior to drops of alcohol. I thought a flick of a toothbrush dipped in alcohol would bring out some neatly dispersed cells.

i find that if you spray alcohol in ur paint before pouring if tends to do muddy colors but if i spray it after streching the paint it blows bubbles and make cells xx

GUYS when you do this, you should pour the pain onto the canvas as soon as you put the alcohol in otherwise it will evaporate, and you'll get some beautiful cell looking effect

hi from the uk i wonder if you have ever had any problems with the paint missing in small circles mostly on the canvas edge i can get round this by filling in i have just finished a 24x36 inch i do use silicon,coconut serum, water repellent not all at the same time, Ifind my drying time is a lot longer than yours up to three weeks due to our cold wet uk weather regards KA

A very interesting comparison......I can see the merits of pouring both ways.......for instance, on the right side painting, that just has the alcohol in it. you could do an "area" pour with the silicone and control where you want a "cell colony" to live......I think that's awesome! Thank you!

I love the use of the alcohol because of the nice affects however, please be careful. I used the 91% and got some on my hands because I didn’t think it would hurt me almost 2 weeks ago . I thought it would be ok to put my gloves on just to tilt and move the paint after the alcohol was added. WRONG! on my part ! It got on my hands and now MY HANDS ARE NOT ONLY PEELING AND DRIED OUT BUT THEY ARE SORE WITH ALCOHOL BURNS! I’m hoping they heal soon. Please advise your subscribers and for your safety too, to wear the gloves while handling the alcohol. I love you and your creations. I want you safe! Hugs, Rose 🌹

Thanks for letting us see your experiment. The effects are quite different so both techniques can be useful. With no medium and alcohol evaporating the paint will dry more quickly thus limiting scope to manipulate the outcome but the overall effect is pleasingly smooth. The alcohol drops on the other hand can jazz up a pour. I can imagine creating jellyfish on an ocean pour!

I love your videos! But I wish you would show them after they dry at the end. Just curious if they've all dried nice or if any of the stuff you added (ex. Alcohol, pva, just water) has caused them to crackle or change in any way while drying.
@jacquelinegardner364
@jacquelinegardner364 5 лет назад
I’m impressed with the alcohol and paint. The red and blue are clearly visible and the white and yellow are more muted, but still my favorite of the two pours! The paint and Flotrol is brighter because the white is prominent and covered the primary colors. Even though the Flotrol painting has more cells, I truly prefer the alcohol painting. Looking forward to trying the alcohol mixture with some different color combinations! I enjoy watching your creative videos! Keep on sharing your beautiful artwork!

How much alcohol do you add to each color?
@newtkintsukuroi3702
@newtkintsukuroi3702 5 лет назад
So....kind of a curiosity. If you mixed some paint with alcohol and some with you regular mixture and poured them all together would that change which colors would show through? For example, I think in one of your vids you had said red tends to show through a lot in cells because it is a lighter pigment and less dense....so since alcohol is lighter than water would it make a difference in the cells? Not sure I am explaining myself well....lol!
@MixedMediaGirl
@MixedMediaGirl 5 лет назад
That would be a very interesting experiment! I feel like the density of the paint would still take over but I'm not sure :)

Oh my gosh, about 3 minutes in, the red in the alcohol piece kind of looks like Abraham Lincoln. Lol So cool! I love those dark colors, though. And it looked like part of the white was trying to peek through in the upper left, but wasn't quite making it. Kind of like the sun trying to peek through the clouds on an overcast day. Ok, now to finish watching the coolness happen. 😊

If you mixed the paint in the cups the same way, the only reason I can think of the darker colors with the alcohol pour is to to the lower surface tension of alcohol and it's allowing the paints to mix instead of sitting on top of one another...

I tried it, in a puddle pour. The fumes of the acetone was very strong, I couldn't bring the piece into the house (I always do outside) for over a month. It had a yellowing effect after it dried thoroughly. It didn't create any cells. I did create some texture dragging a plastic fork in it. Still turned out nice, but no more nail polish remover.
