I wonder if it wasn’t so much a result of the liquitex pouring medium creating the cells, than it was a result of the water added to the mix. To make a completely parallel comparison, water should have been added to both mixes, in equal parts, and equal parts of Gac to LPM, and each color paint.
@chockpea
@chockpea 4 года назад
The pouring medium has cells because you added water. Pretty sure GAC800 isn't meant to be used just as a pouring medium it is just to prevent crazing.

Thank you for these videos. I’m new to acrylic pouring and starting from scratch. I can’t even draw a straight line. My mantra is “keep on pouring, keep on pouring”. Have not found my consistency yet so I do get frustrated frequently. And the comparison of the mediums is very helpful. Will try them,especiallythe alcohol one. Where I am in Ga has mucho bugs. Had no idea they like this paint😀

I will give you some UNSOLICITED advice: If you have not started yet....RUN AWAY! If you have started and are hooked already, Keep your consistency on the thick side and make sure that all the paints you are using on a painting are all the SAME consistency....and after you mix the paints....do not use them right away. cover them with a damp cloth and let them sit at least eight hours to 24 hours. It helps. Also watch the teaching videos and the recipes, over and over again. Write them down, and try them to find the one that works for you. Remember this: Each "STYLE" or "TECHNIQUE" requires different ingredients mixed at different viscosities, AND each paint has it's own specific gravity. You must learn these to get it "right". Took me three years. I wish some had told me to run away before I started. I am addicted. Very addicted and I wish I could stop. I have a thousand paintings now.... run. away. now.

You can use the GAC with the pouring medium. The GAC 800 is used to reduce crazing ( cracking of paint) so if you do a pie and it is kind of thick on the canvas the GAC 800 will help it smooth out as it dries so you won’t lose the painting. HTH

Thank you for your video! I dont like the cells at all. Each to their own, by all means. But the Gac 800 is what I heard worked best and i love the glossy positive color flow and solidness. Thanks again and God bless.

VeggieMight4Life I agree the Gac looks like those fabulous resin paintings I’ve seen. Gac is smooth, has the feathering, the look of marble is great. I like cells and they have their place. But the smoothness of the gac really caught my attention more

@MixedMediaGirl

+Tracy Nail well, it would really depends how thick the paint is. With a thin paint, like craft paint, it could work, you just might have cracking because it would be so thick. With normal acrylic paint it wouldn't pour at all :)

I use acrylic binder with just a little Liquitex pouring medium added. It keeps it a little thicker and stops the colours muddying so much. GAC now have a pouring medium but I still find it a little too thin and in a Dutch pour it bleeds. Very disappointing.

My FAV cells are the ones that are three or four colors each! LOVE those! Hate the massive amount of white ones that show up, kind of like the painting on the right did. YUCK. I also do not use just pouring medium. I cannot. I add everything but the kitchen sink, and then they turn out so cool, keep the paints thicker side, and wow! Thinner paints give you mud, broken cells, broken lines, broken painting...and cracks!

Mixed Media Girl Resin is certainly a popular medium to try. But I think in terms of mess, pouring mediums are probably easier to take care of. If you're working larger scale then the bigger resin tubs make sense. Check out Artresin & Ecopoxy resins!

Hi! Enjoyed the video. Very informative. I just bought some GAC 800 yesterday because I wanted to try it out. I just finished a bottle of Liquitex while pouring on tiles for the first time. Love this experiment, I’m new to acrylic pouring, currently using floetrol for experimenting and practicing. I’ve been curious about the pouring mediums, tried Elmer’s glue first, switched to floetrol. I’m not completely happy with the floetrol, I’m new so it may be my mistakes causing problems. With this experiment, I see the liquitex is performing similar to floetrol. I’m glad it doesn’t have the small white dots I get with floetrol. But the Gac 800, wow that’s a beautiful outcome. The smoothness and feathering rivals the beautiful resin paintings I’ve seen on RU-vid. The marbling is another great affect, the Gac performed very well. I might try both, liquitex and Gac to just get a different look to my paintings. Thanks for this wonderful experiment!

use floetrol, and liquitex pouring medium, and gloss gel medium and elmers or gac 800. try it. just a bit of each....even add the polycrylic gloss varnish.
@karenkelleher989
@karenkelleher989 4 года назад
go ahead and try a few with your paint a bit thick, but still can run off your stick. without leaving a pile in your cup. Wait a few hours after you mix them up, and most importantly, make sure all the paints are the same consistency. This will lead to a broken painting if you do not. thin paint, and thick paint in same cup or on same canvas, make mud and broken cells and lines and just breaks everything down. Proper consistency leads to perfect paintings.
