The first half of this course, taught by Prof. Yaffe, is available on the MITx platform as 7.05x Biochemistry: Biomolecules, Methods, and Mechanisms. The videos below are from the second half of the course with Prof. Vander Heiden, which focuses on metabolism. The exception is Lecture 12, which is in the first half of the course and was taught by Prof. Vander Heiden. See ocw.mit.edu/7-05S20 for more information.

I don't know how you can watch this without thinking that biochemistry is so cool.

MIT OCW has helped me so much that if one day I become rich, I would feel guilty not donating to this school.

I used to read this back in high school, still remember the monstrous 12 step glycolysis, really loved plant physiology back then.

It was more of a biochemistry than physiology... But i get it.. In India it's under plant physiology ncert...

Saya bangga dengan channel ini. Ini sebuah edukasi bagi saya yg lulusan pelajar saja tanpa mengikuti jenjang pendidikan lanjut. Terima kasih atas pemaparan yg baik ini

I am a little confused: what is the difference between oxidative phosphorylation and substrate phosphorylation?
@KieraRacey
@KieraRacey 2 года назад
In the substrate-level phosphorylation, the phosphate group is directly transferred from the substrate to ADP to produce ATP, whereas in oxidative phosphorylation, the energy required for ATP synthesis comes from the oxidation of NADH and FADH2 in the electron transport chain

Brilliant class, I just have a question, why don’t use KJoules/mol?

(On Saturday of March 11, 2023). On the Matter of PhD Matthew Vander Heiden and Bioenergetics Or Introduction to Pathways And/Or Glycolysis I (Catabolism of Glucose and the Chemistry Therein) Otherwise Metabolism (Both Anabolic and Catabolic Reactions Therein): 1) Niacin and The Redox Reactions so Essential to Biology and the Biochemical Diametrics Therein. Vitamin B 3 and the Nicotinamide Adenosine (Adenine) Dinucleotide is a Marvelous Self-Generative and Perhaps 3.7 Billion Year Old Biochemistry as Louis Pasteur envisioned with Prokaryotes and the Fermentation Therein of Glucose into Glycoethnol, a Bioreaction Permitting Them Life and Transitioning Life to a More Heterodiametric And Complex Diversity (from Plants to Mammals). 2) Oxidative Phosphorylation as the Essential ATP Precursor is nice as Most People will only remember it being Part of the Electron Transfer Chain (ETC) within the Mitochondria. The Cytoplasm is the Essential Meeting Ground beside the Protocytoplasmic Membrane Milieu of Cytology; and therefore a more Primordial Environment Of Biochemistry. If Phosphorylation Processes were exclusive to the Mitochondria certainly the question would be how does a Parasitical Prokaryote become Energized via a non-Symbiant as itself could become? To me this makes sense with the description of Oxidative Phosphorylation (OP) being Possible too within the Cytoplasm (Redox Reactions of NAD+-NAPH being rather more thoroughfare of Animalia Later within the Evolution Process). PhD Heiden, es geht sehr gut aber man muss verstanden wir nicht immer sollten Energie haben eben vom Natur. Heil!

Just wondering how come you said 25 degrees centigrade and 1atmosphere pressure is typical biological condition? Our body works at 37 degrees centigrade, also the bond between glucose and phosphate is not a phosphodiester bond, this bond is in nucleic acids, the bond beyween glucose and phosphate is just an ester bond, with all due respect
