Consider supporting your awning poles with a paint roller stick in the middle. We have an Ironman awning and room . Ours collapsed under the weight of a heavy downpour even with our roof slanted at an extreme angle. It bent both support poles . Now we support it in the middle of the awning with a tennis ball attached to the paint pole and we have ones that we put outside of the awning in the middle of the support poles . We attach by sliding a 1 1/2 “ PVC Tee fitting over the support pole while setting up . Don’t make out mistake and ruin both poles. The awning room is a fair amount of weight for those poles to support. My favorite awning is my 23zero 270 with tent walls . Now that’s a huge space , we love it We have a Hiker overland trailer and a Jeep CJ . I really want to get to NC 105 , that looks fun .

Awesome idea! I have some extra awning poles from before I converted to attached awnings. I will give it a shot for my next trip out!

Protect them at all cost , they are not available as of now and IM said they are at least 60-90 days out.

I just weathered a heck of a rainstorm out camping in the George Washington National Forest and added in the supports. I forgot to dip my awning for the first bit of the storm and your tip saved my support bars. Thanks!

You’re welcome, I’m glad that there was no damage . We camped at Merriweather Lewis campground in TN on the Natchez trace and a massive storm got it the first time . The second time was in Pensacola Florida at Ft. Pickens . The storm bent poles even with the supports in place . Fl storms are so bad and intense, we took cover that day in the truck . The 23zero 270 acted like nothing happened… what storm . The straight pull awning was destroyed with the room attached. Just know that even with supports extreme storms takes their toll. Going forward I will only own 23Zero or a handful of other high end models. Ironman and ARB are out

dang you have had some bad luck with storms. My worst was camping on the beach at Cape lookout. Had a nasty one roll through. I lucked into a site with 10-15 filled sandbags already there and tied it off with 6 lines and tossed the rest of the sand bags inside the awning. Me and my pup weathered that one in the awning, but probably should have slept in the truck.

I couldn't get any mobile signal when i was camping on 105 back in march. what are you using for internet connectivity? starlink?

I have a peplink cell setup. signal on the 105 was pretty spotty though decent signal on Verizon at the camp site with the view, but it dropped off pretty quick after that. that valley opened things up from the town off in the distance.

Next time you cook the steak, render the fat side first. Hold it with tongues for 2 minutes. Get you some kosher salt as well and garlic powder and black pepper. Bast the steak with the butter 🧈 with a spoon. Also you talk about dishes a lot like it’s a big deal. And why didn’t you build a fire? You drove 7 hours… and whoever drove over your panel is an a hole.

Thank you for the tips on Steak! I will give that a shot for sure! I hate doing dishes....mostly just lazy me problem, but I always strive to make them easier on me. It was pretty windy while I was camped on old NC 105, so I didn't want to risk a fire. I still get about 85-100W out of the panel thankfully. I never checked prior to it being run over, so not sure if it is damaged or not. 160W panel, but I know I have never seen any perform to what they list for. Maybe that is when it is in space next to the sun LOL.

@@OverlandCalling sorry for coming across so crass. We own some property about 5 miles from where you are. The service station on the corner near famous Louise’s has a lot to offer. And there’s firewood “that burns” close by too. It’s always windy there but I appreciate your concern about the fire. I still would’ve built a small one. I’m glad you had a good time and your dog Zeus looked adorable. Where did you get your panel from? I still can’t believe someone ran over it. Did you see the person? Most folks would’ve been shot for doing that. Was it far from your jeep? Help me understand.

@@MattyRox no worries at all. I am pretty sure I stopped into that store to pick up some supplies. Great info on the wood. Seems like a no brainer, but finding wood that burns well is harder than most people think. I got the solar panel from Amazon a few years ago. It is an EcoFlow.I had it about 20 feet away from my Jeep catching the last rays of sun, but still well off the road. Someone was using the wide spot in the road to do a U turn by edging into my camp. I ran at them like a crazy person waving my arms. They probably thought I had lost it at first lol. Funny to think back on it now, but I was pretty hot about it at the time. Guess it worked out in the end because I am still using the panel and now I have a story as well.
