That's one of my favorite CU podcast rants. Pat and Ian go off on the leaked pitch deck and the figures Intellivision cited for projected sales are so out there. Pat and Ian point out that to capture the projected 1.5% of the worldwide video game market, the multiple people on every block would have to own an Amico.
Even back when I was into the amico and following all the tommy "interviews" (i was an impressionable 15 year old) i STILL knew that it would probably not even break a million "when" it came out. But I thought for a small company that would still be successful, maybe a couple hundred thousand units sold. And that wasn't farfetched from the kickstarter numbers. Wild how I had more sense than the cult
Honestly, I didn't have a switch yet and my laptop that I gamed on was kinda crappy, so I was just playing a couple indie games maybe and some gamecube/wii games. Amico grabbed me because of the "accessibility" thing and I thought it would be cool to play some simple games with people. I started following it really heavily in about February of 2020, watching all the videos tommy was in basically. I even almost got him on my channel! But after about a month or maybe a bit more I kinda stopped following it and then realized it didn't look that great, plus them missing the initial release date and stuff. Again, even back when I was excited for it, i never thought finnigan fox looked good at all lol, i just liked the vibe of some games like breakout and night stalker. tbh if those came to steam and are actually good I'd probably consider getting them, but yeah I was just allured by Tommy's charisma, even though I knew he had to be stretching the truth on some things at least like working with Miyamoto. But it wasn't until a few months ago I watched Hbg's video and I was kinda baffled@@Noreillay
I like seeing people get scammed. How do these old farts that know about these consoles NOT KNOW about emulation? Or not know what these trash games are really worth? Why would something that plays games that look like that be worth over 300? It’s hilarious and I love to see it. Hearing how people got tricked into schemes and scams is my guilty pleasure. Pyramid schemes are the best. There’s enough research out there to make an informed decision yet they don’t. I love it.

Can someone explain to me how they though this was going to be a sucess? They launched their new games on steam and got a grand total of 4 or less all-time peak players, considering the reviews I would say all of them came from amico fandom. These people never played a game in the past 20 years? They actually thought that those shovelware would break the industry and make mobile gamers that never paid one cent in games before buy a $200 console.
the two main problems are the controllers and the price, talaripoff was never going to pull off having a second screen on a wireless controller work well, only nintendo pulled it off but the console they did it with nonetheless failed, and pricing this footbath above 200 dollars is insanity, if they hit the original target price of 150 then i could see them selling maybe 10,000-20,000 units

the funny thing for me is that this whole time, the official Intellivision channel and Tommy's channel were both ghost towns. There wasn't even enough interest to warrant any of this. Intellivision couldn't even get press on well known gaming channels, but they really thought they'd be on Ellen and GMA???

Because this is the EXACT behaviour they exibit. -Bth groups have a delusion that their on functional investment will not only pay off, but will be the best selling console/ become a website to rival amazon. -They both idolize a 'celebrity' CEO simply because he gives them attention. (Tommy/Ryan Cohen) - the communities center around social media channels who still act like the long dead venture will be coming around any day now. -those channels only have the influence they had because the CEO gave them attention to use them as marketing. It's the same thing. Amico is basically a cult now.
