Your commitment to uploading new content is fantastic 👏. Many years ago I used to get my hair braided cornrowed and I hated the take down process. Fast forward to the present I do my own hair weekly or every 2 weeks and there are no issues: no tender scalp, no excessive hair loss, no excessive breakage, no build up. My hair is the longest it's ever been and still growing. Don't believe the lie of when you get old your hair is not the same, it can be we just have to look after it well (of course as long as we don't have any genetic issues/illness that effect hair). Im excited for part 2.

@@CoilyDiaries It was difficult finding out what my hair likes because unfortunately my generation was fed a lot of nonsense not by our mum's but by word of mouth. So I had to undo all of that and start all over again. It's been a process but I've enjoyed it. Can't wait for part 2.

I love your content. I related to alot of what was discussed in this video. When it comes to the take down I brace myself (get used t shirts from laundry hamper to cover the couch and my shoulder, turn on the tv, and in the morning watch my shows while removing braids, loosening the knot at the scalp with my fingers then comb out the hair and proceed to the next braid, my savior is grubhub to order and eat and also olaplex # zero and #3 to help build and strengthen my hair prior to wash, deep condition etc.) I also appreciate how you mentioned the bashing, it does need to stop. Please continue to provide informative and encouraging videos. Your hard work is appreciated 😊

I did a big chop last year and walked away from relaxers. My hair is steadily growing and very healthy. I use glycerine and water in a spray bottle per your advice. Love my rosemary mix hair growth oil. I wear twists or a twist out and wash every 2 weeks. Im enjoying my 4c hair and love the look and feel of it. I may or may not braid for the summer, not a fan. My scalp has always been sensitive and I have never done false hair no wigs no sew ins. No extensions nothing. My scalp soreness is just so. I don't comb or brush my hair either. My scalp and hair is only finger detangled and it still hurts even when I'm not touching my hair my scalp is still sore. I don't use hairdressers either because I can't suffer their heavy hands. I finger detangle for 6-8 hours every wash day (4-8 weeks routine). I love silky and I love curly. I don't like my natural hair shrinkage or losing my hair length from shrinkage & I don't like afro or frizzy texture. So clearly I'm going to struggle. I don't do relaxers nor false hair. I like the look of stretched hair if I can avoid shrinkage which I can't. I prefer my hair long thankfully it grows well but as I mature/age plus medication it is delicate and thinning.

1. I have heard that tender scalp after a LTPS is the result of not combing/brushing and exercising the arrector pili muscle, so every movement on the head during takedown is felt much more. I don't think everybody struggles with this, but I have heard it's VERY common in people who've combed out their locs after having them for years. 2. The cosplay community complains about uncomfortable wigs all the time. However I don't think the expectation there is to wear them days on end, and they're not trying to make them look real, so complaining about them (and the entire cosplay being uncomfortable really 😅) is much more common in that space. 3. I've never taken down my hair that long, but I do make sure I have my snacks on deck! Also I always try to eat and drink before going in to wash my hair so that I don't get dizzy standing in the hot shower so long. Also, I almost never put in or take out a style without some kind of tv show or audiobook going at the same time. 😃 4. This is why I'm playing in my hair too much. Those fresh styles have me checking my reflection in every mirror I pass. 😅 5. Everything in moderation, right? I just do what I like with my hair within reason. If you cut your hair and put it on a box and store it safely, that's the only way to have nothing happen to it. We're alive so as long as the hair is living with us, some damage is going to occur. 🤷🏽‍♀️ 6. I don't think I've detangled over an hour since I was a child. And those detangling sessions with my mom were not fun. Not fun at all. Once I started taking care of my natural hair in my 20s, my primary goal was to find a method of combing that worked for me so I could detangle quickly and easily. Now, it usually takes me under 30 mins, and if I go over an hour I know I've done something very wrong to my hair. I also have rather low density hair though, so I totally understand how it's possible to take a little longer. 7. I get that feeling when I successfully execute a new style I haven't tried before! 😃 8. Transformations are always fun, I agree! 9. I don't think I've ever sat long enough to experience stiffness🤔 I'm the type of person to get up and move around every so often when doing my hair or getting colour done. 10. Can't say I've ever experienced this either since taking care of my hair myself. I'm sure it happened as a child, but all I remember was how much of a struggle detangling was, not how much shed hairs actually came out, since I wasn't the one combing at that point, but I have to imagine that a tonne of shed hairs would come out at the time. It was probably my poor mom who had to suffer with that! 😔 Definitely agree that hair is meant to be enjoyed ❤️ "Your hair is an accessory, not an arm or a leg." I like that! Yes, I want healthy hair, but I also know that I can style it to be pretty while slowly trimming off damage on my own time.

This may be hard to believe but I actually do not like silk presses. Granted I’ve only had one but it’s because I didn’t like it. I was so uncomfortable because my hair felt so thin. I complained to my mom everyday. lol. I thought my hair had come out. The only reason I didn’t wash it right away to get my curls back is because I paid all that money, but honey the day I washed it, I was so relieved and I said never again. I got my ends cut without a silk press when I was younger and I can continue to.

Looking lovely today! I can't begin to match the fabulous topics and ideas that you bring forth. You are always right on the money about how we women with coily curly hair feel, even the exhaustion we suffer from the maintenance and care of our hair. It' a thing! Our hair is the "Special needs Strands" of the hair care community. It will always require more attention, more consideration, more time and more tenderness of care in order to thrive. Every juncture will require a fully thought out process or there will be dire consequences to the health of our hair. I'm remembering Kermit the frog singing, "It's not easy being green?" Well, having this type of hair is not for the faint of heart, right? But, I'm accustomed to the modifications required, in order to maintain its health, though it's never an easy process. As I've aged, my decision to dye my graying hair came with a consequences I had to weigh. More fairy knotts, the possibility of breakage and split ends. Yet, what worried me most was the lost of using heat styling on my hair, something that I loved to do. But, research had cautioned not to mix the two, so I gave it up and my hair is stronger and healthier without it. As the years go by, I ask myself am I ready to stop dying my hair and I say probably not. I'm blessed to s look many years younger than my actual age; I can't reconcile the lack of pigment in my hair with my features. I guess I stand in a certain camp that included my Great-Grandmother and Pres. Reagan. I'll be coloring until the bitter end. As for cutting regularly, I'm with you. Who made this rule? How can someone just randomly say what type of cutting schedule that someone's hair needs to be on, when we are all different? I prefer to look at my hair, and examine its condition and health before I just cut it. I make my cuts personal and meaningful and rare. In the past I did big chops, then I'd visit a stylist months/years later with no heat or chemicals used on my hair-- they couldn't wait to cut and style my hair. My hair didn't appear any healthier than when I walked in.Did it really need to be cut or am I a walking billboard for the stylist? Since I've always favored low maintenance styles: Page boy, Bun with bangs, or 2 braids, I had to ask myself, "Was this really necessary?" Like you my answer is "No." I'm staying out of chairs that want to randomly cut my hair. I've gone back to the basics of childhood that allowed my hair to flourish: products with simple ingredients, grease, good conditioners, olive oil, stress free/protective styling, covering hair at night with satin or silk and limited cutting. I certainly can't speak for someone else's hair, but I rarely need to cut my hair to achieve a healthy state. Loved, these facts that you shared and looking forward to the next 10! Great video, you make us think and encourage us to let go of all the external chatter and do what is right for us individually. How liberating!

Love the frog analogy! Love that you are enjoying your hair and have made peace with the results of this. The cutting of our hair on the regular is perplexing! I took down my plaits and replaced each plait with two twists. Girl, just that small change had me feeling myself! 😂 It was so funny! So yes , switching up a style for a moment can put a different pep in your step! 😂 I think I may become a twisted natural now, instead of a braided one. BUT, I’m still washing in braids…utilizing both methods to get where I want to be easier! On another note, you’re right, anything done wrong can break your hair. But I watched a RU-vidr that became a straight natural wash her hair. Her curls did not revert, except at the root. Of course she was completely fine with it, but honestly, I had a moment of sadness, like “awe, her beautiful curls are gone!” Strange of course cause it’s her hair, but it’s heat damaged. And at the end of the day, we all get to do with our hair as we please. 😊🌸

One thing for certain. Two things for sure. The topics and opinions on taking care of natural textured hair is as the song says "a never ending story." Social media has made it more stressful to deal with natural textured hair because of the differences of opinions about this topic. "Variety is the spice of life" as the saying goes, yet the constant rhetoric of how others try to police other people's choices on how they choose to take care of their own hair is exhausting 😩🥱. When this "system of things" comes to its end shortly " people will become" faint out of fear " "not knowing the way out " and it will be chaos once social media is no longer in existence. But, the best thing is the promise that in the very near future "all things made new" will be fulfilled under the heavenly kingdom and none of Satan's wicked world and narratives and agendas won't be "brought to mind" ever again. Thanks to Jehovah and Jesus for that. (Psalm 83:18;Isaiah 65:17,25; Matt 24:3,14,42,44; Luke 21:25-28; John 17:3; 1 John 2:15-17;5:19; Eph 4:29,31; Rev 21:3-6) Thanks for sharing 🙏🏾💐💜😀

I love to see long 4abc hair...to me that is our beauty. I always wanted sisterlocks but now I am more into getting long 4abc hair just like Coily diaries😊. Although I am kind of skeptical about gels I love putting gel into my hair it makes my hair so wavy and sleek. Still feels like it is not good for the hair but I love it. Lazy to make my own gel. I think aloe or flaxseed will work good. Wash day my hair need to be twisted big it is more easier to handle. I try as much as possible to use products with no harmful ingredients. There is some products I use sometimes that has alcohol ect inside it smells so good and it makes my hair feel so moisturized. But is it good for my hair I don't want my hair to break. There is a product I want to use so bad the main ingredient is ginger it smells soooo good. It is made in the Dominican Republic then I think to myself they have different hair textures maybe it works for them...these are the things that bother me alot in the natural hair community. It probably will work and grow my hair more but I am afraid it will damage it too. No time for setbacks although it happens. Does anyone else has this issue? Maybe a video about this issue will be nice.
