As long as they don't risk their health it 's all good. But when I see someone hit themselves on the ice with the head and they allow them to continue, it really saddens me. And I hate seeing people praising them for their courage in such circumstances, as people don't realize they are literally praising them to kill themselves.
@@jillianamoroso8877 Hitting your head on ice is like hitting it on concrete - it hurts! When you have a fall, you learn to do your best to keep your head from hitting the ice, it becomes a reflex action. Unfortunately it's not always possible so bad injuries can happen, even to experienced skaters. But falls are part of the sport. I used to coach a woman in her 40s who made very slow progress - her main problem was she was always very tense because she feared falling the whole time she was on the ice. It's not easy to skate when you are tense and it also makes falls more like than when you are more relaxed.
I see some people commenting at 1:18 that the guy was a jerk for getting annoyed at her for falling, but it looks like he’s more annoyed at himself than at her. He even comforts her after so it’s most likely that he feels bad about dropping her.
She was starting to lean away from him s as he was going down. He had no way to catch her. They changed the lift and the way she was positioned not long after that.
I have the utmost respect for figure skaters! You must have perfect balance, skill, athleticism and…well…there’s no word for the type of concentration you MUST HAVE, on top of high endurance and incredible strength in your upper and lower body, joints…WOW!
This is a very risky sport. It is easy to underestimate how risky it is by the way it looks. Everyone has to understand that. The more graceful and beautiful dances are, it also sometimes increases the risk of injury. It also changes the severity of those injuries. These athletes work incredibly hard to put on a great show for everyone, it is devastating to see them fall but I hope they will be in situations where they can always get back up. Great pairs!
I agree so much people underestimate how difficult this sport is many cannot come close to this level but in the crowd people were cheering in some part of the video and after she fell they all booed
As a figure skater myself, the expectation is when you fall, you always get back up again:) (also some good inspo on life, too) So proud of these skaters!
1:18 i don't think this fall was the woman's fault, and the fact that the guy looked ANNOYED after HE dropped her is just disgusting (at least he comforted her at the end :) i think i misunderstood at first)
Im a exellent ice skater and a roller inline skater who does tricks at the skate park and over the city and I've busted my knee cap and had multiple injuries and a minor injurie to my back. But it's a passion of mine so I carry on. Been skating since I was 12 now I'm 32. Same with these proffessional ice skaters thats why they keep going they took up what they love. Gymnastics is similar just not on ice and so is inline skating outdoors and doing tricks all over the city is very dangerous. but like i said you can't stop what your passionate about. Skating is my life.
Ice is hard and they have no padding! I'm always amazed at how they get right back up and continue skating. Also, that one where the guy dropped the girl - that was scary. A lot of these happened in Vancouver - was there something weird going on with the ice?
A skeleton athlete died on opening ceremony day during a training run. His angry spirit later jammed the mechanism that hoists one of the rings in the air. Then our national ladies figureskaters mother drops dead the day before she competes due to massive heart attack. Yes it was cursed
I really fell for them they put so much heart and soul and there all into these dances just to have it all gone in one failed execution but as you can see they get straight back up and keep going true champions in my eyes .and simply beautiful to see true showmanship and professionalism
1:18 Why’d he act like it was her fault that HE dropped her? She wasn’t secure in his arms when he was bringing her down, he had one arm supporting her! What a d o u c h e! Edit: after rewatching: he actually wasn’t supporting any part of her- he literally just sorta drops her.
Exactly! People get so used to seeing these people who put insane amounts of work into it..and forget they're still skating at a high speed, with a thin blade, on ice!!
@Exina Leslye-Noélie I made my comment as a compliment to Olympic athletes. And yes, doing lifts while skating very fast is dangerous. Again, it is a compliment. Ffs
They are all perfection. It's strange to see all these falls happened in Wimbledon at same place or what? I think the ice was cracked or melting. Water is clearly visible on some clips. Still they all are amazing and inspiring the way they handled the situations.
Thats just the choice of the guy making the compilation. There are falls and mistakes in every competition. However the pairs event in Vacouver was indeed a bit of a trainwreck.
Aooch - and yet, an impotant reminder to all of us who appreciate this beautiful artform - it comes with tremendous training and efforts and with high risks
It has to be SOooo COLD when they hit the ice, especially for the girls. I always hated seeing anyone fall when I was a kid. I love it when they are able to get back up & finish like nothing happened.
Interesting to see Maxim and Tatiana here skating but with different partners, you sort of realize when seeing them with other people how perfect they were for each other.
