honestly idc if “she wanted to continue” they should have automatically stopped and checked her out, finishing a damn competition is not worth getting paralyzed or losing your life smh
I think that isn't the way skaters see it. They live their lives for that moment, and after that they live of memories. That's why they don't care watchers think they should stop.
As an adult who just decided to learn skating, I have so much respect for skaters. My first 20 minutes went me trembling like an 8 month old who never learn to walk. I am glad she was ok!
@@LA-lq1zf go for it! I could only skate forward at age 47 but started learning with my 5 year old daughter. Now I do all sorts of stuff at age 53. She's far better than me but I'm still proud of myself. You'll love it! I wear a skateboard helmet, though, because 4 years ago I was knocked unconscious for a couple of seconds after a fall.
@@davidlencar8690 ok, so soccer is pretty big where I'm from and I know for a fact that people fake getting hurt all.the.time. How many times do they actually get hurt, compared to all the times when they dissimulate? That was what I was talking about. 🙄 🤦
I think so too. The way her legs just flopped in my opinion, I'm guessing she was knocked out for a second or two 😢 poor girl. I agree with something someone else said, they should have stopped and checked her out.
Really beautiful performance in spite of the wobbles and falls. I feel that there is so much pressure on these athletes to always do more spins and higher jumps. It gets to the point that becomes life-threatening. I hope she is okay.
I agree. This is such a dangerous sport. I started following figure skating in the 60s when the famous Soviet (Union) skaters Belousova and Protopopov were the best in the world. The difference in the level of danger between then and now is enormous. They were greatly adored around the world - and didn’t really take their lives in their hands every practice session or every performance. Perhaps we should consider initiating some safety guidelines. They’re trying to reduce traumatic brain injury in other sports.
People say "Oh, figure skating isn't that dangerous" You are literally jumping and spinning on ice with METAL BLADES on your feet. Doesn't get more dangerous than that.
I was ice skating one time, and I’m horrible at it... I slipped and fell and the metal blade slit my lower leg, above the angle below the knee. It’s been a few months and it’s never gonna fade. It looks exactly the same as the day after the cut. It hurt so painfully. And I was just skating for fun and only go a few times a year. I wonder how athletes and ice skaters handle so many cuts like these for years practicing.
Can I just say.. I found this to be extremely moving regardless of the fall and fumbles and while it may not be perfection I felt like it was even more empowering to watch her get back up from two falls and skate again with her entire heart. It was beautiful because of the imperfections
Completely agree! This was spectacular to watch! Even with the imperfection, the grace presented was masterful. I love for this when watching any contestant. It was flawless regardless. So happy she’s okay. She appeared to having some balance issues midway. Was she dizzy or did she lose her spotting? Vertigo?
Seeing videos like this walks me back thru my figure skating accident years ago. Almost took my life- and took skating from me forever. I’m glad she’s okay.
Ashley is a Texan. They grow their women strong out younder. No tears in baseball or TEXAS. Keep on moving or die. She is an American girl. Goooooo goooooo Gadget Ashley from Texas the lone star state!!!! Only one Texas and only one Ashley Ice Queen from Texas.
As a judge I wouldnt allow her to continue if a doctor doesnt check her before. Health is way more important than performance. Head injuries can be fatal and there are times you dont see the damage right immediately. You can allow contestants to restart their rutine and discount all their previous faults.
I agree, if someone hits their head during a performance, they shouldn't be allowed to continue. The risk of a another fall is not worth further injury. Imagine if she had sustained even a small skull fracture or brain bleed continues to perform and ends up losing her balance hitting her head yet again causing severe trauma 😬 Time is of the essence when it comes to head trauma. That being said their performance was beautiful
@@addiegraves3 Agreed, I wish this was where the judges would've stepped in (don't know if they can do that) but she was clearly dazed and should've been checked by medical staff immediately.
Me: Tries to jump over doggie gate and catches it with my pinkie toe. Goes sprawling and lands in such a way I’m thinking as I’m lying there I’ve broken my neck along with my pinkie toe.
Боже какая красота, грация, синхронность. И это ужасное падение. Она сильная спортсменка, сумела подняться после такого падения и продолжить катание. Умничка, молодец. Очень красивая и смелая пара. Удачи вам ребята и много, много побед! ❤🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺
The choreography was brilliant but the ability to perfectly synchronize with each other was astoundingly breathtaking!!! Regardless of the falls, they were awesome.!❤ I hope she is ok.
Don’t blame the man! He clearly tried to talk to her and was ready to stop! The woman herself wanted to continue. But I agree that the coaches should’ve stop them.
priscilla crow Not really. Her landings weren’t all that horrible, she nailed some of them. It’s just the ones right before she fell and after the fall that she was off
priscilla crow i agree that her landings weren't perfect, but they were definitely not "horrible". In singles those would be weird, i agree, but in pairs, such landings are totally normal, except for the one were she fell, but the jump was right there, she just had a weird and silly fall.
priscilla crow Yeah, I remember someone commenting that a skater was wobbling on a spin when actually they were going to an inside edge. Watching skating only gets you so far. Sloppy is a loaded word, implying that the skater has bad technique. She does not have bad technique. Go look at the protocols and see how much the judges dinged her landings, and it doesn’t add up to much. Not horrible, and sloppy is the wrong word to describe the landings you object to. Wonky is the informal term :-). Shaky works, though only one or at most 2 is that. No deep outside edge would be another complaint for a couple. But horrible? Pejorative and vague isn’t a good look.
priscilla crow I agree, she was off her game. I think what I objected to was a tone I saw in your comment which was not what you meant, and is probably the internet communication problem. I admit I don’t like the term sloppy, as there are terms that are more specific to what happened and sound less judgmental. To me, sloppy refers to technique, whereas “she is off her game; she was already having a hard time maintaining her landing, holding her edge, etc., I would have understood your respectful position. Terminology, type, the internet. 😀
I hate how everyone is blaming Timothy. He clearly tried to talk to her in 3:58 and she pushed him away. It also seems that right after the accident he wanted to accompany her off field ( 3:52 ) but she pushed him away and wanted to keep going on. NEVER blame someone if you haven't been in the situation.
Okay hands down she was so professional. I'm speechless. Wow and i think there was something with her since the beginning not just at the time she fell
Her decision to get up and continue, in my opinion, was not professional it was stupid. She could have become paralyzed or died from worsening her injury. No competition is worth someone's life
@@wanbywalby8240 That's the life of a professional athlete though. Their trade is their life. Just like that girl in gymnastics a decade ago? She did that vault on a sprained/broken ankle and won the American team the gold that year, I think. They live that "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" life.
Very synchronized performance. I loved it. I just felt so much pity for her when she landed head first. I was surprised she was even able to stand up. I thought she broke her spinal column.
This whole "she's so strong for continuing" rhetoric I'm seeing in the comments completely disregards that being knocked out like that can be quite dangerous and someone should've stepped in for her own safety instead of letting her continue. Head injuries are no joke, and what happens after getting knocked out (preventing the head from moving and going to the hospital for observation and treatment vs. shaking it off and getting right back up) can have an impact on the severity of the damage from the concussion. So yeah it was brave and whatnot, but it was also very dangerous, even more dangerous than, say, continuing with a broken bone.
I totally agree. I have a son who was knocked out several times through his youth playing sports. At one point he was told no more contact sports but we couldn't get him to listen. Fortunately there were no more instances.
@Crescent Lunaxy I wasn't part of their exchange, but to me it seems like she pushes herself to keep the performance going, less so than him encouraging it. imagine being in the Olympics, the ultimate dream for these athletes, and getting hurt. would you stop? I've known CLUB soccer players who continue playing with a shatted tibia or fibula

I reacted to that too. She does not have the same energy as her partner and she had to do the same jump twice in order to gain the speed of her partner
@@emiliaholmberg3320 the partner also did two jumps, that was the routine. She was just very delayed because she stumbled on her first jump and had to quickly jump ish to catch up to him and the music nevertheless it was off from the start. Look at landings. Only one was stable before the first fall. Maybe she was injured or ill or something and decided to push through. This was the consequence
To me, it looks like he knelt beside her and was ready to stop, and get help for her..but she got up and kept going..and he followed suit..so he's not to be blamed she kept going ..and he looked like he was trying to help her in the kiss and cry.
Rebekah Needham yes! A lot of people are blaming him but he was probably panicking. At that moment a lot of thoughts go through your head and I’m sure if it was up to him he wouldn’t have continued but she was “professional” about it and told him it was ok to keep going. So please don’t put the blame on him, you can tell that he was worried about her and obviously would’ve rather her not finish the performance and get some medical attention as soon as possible
He actually got her up. She was out cold and he moved her head n she woke. Then he helped her up. She was still clearly dazed when she began skating again. And to have a neck brace in the end shows she really did jam her neck in the fall. He should have let her lay there and call for help. That fall again near the end didn't help her neck any either......
Toni S yes‼️I can’t believe he picked her head up! So scary. I don’t think anybody is “blaming” him. Just saying when there’s a possible and even more probable neck/back injury you don’t move the person!
Eles foram lindos , imprevistos acontecem. Ela foi guerreira, e ele um parceiro incrível. Parabéns aos dois , que ela não tenha se machucado seriamente. Deus os abençoe ❤️💙🙏🏾🌹🌹
Usually as a performer, the first time you bobble can mess you up for the rest of the routine. You want everything to be perfect, so once the first movement is messed up, it’s hard to focus on anything else
the fact that she was literally out for a second when she hit the floor . you can tell by her legs & nobody decided to say anything smh .. it wasn’t his fault but i don’t understand why he even tried to pick her up by her neck when she landed on it & wasn’t moving props to him because he is obviously more shaken than she is
To me it looked like he was trying to keep her neck stable as he knew she most likely had a head injury. He wasn’t picking her up by the neck but supporting her neck while helping her up (at least that’s what it looks like to me... i danced growing up and have seen quite a few falls)
msguineapigsrus um.. she landed on her neck & head .. some of his weight went down on her as well . she also went limp , so when someone lands on their neck & head like that .. you do not move them
@Amira Brown If we want to get straight down to it, he didn't see how she fell, he just saw that she went down. I doubt he is simultaneously trained in emergency services so it's just one of those sad things that happen.
Skitdora2010 um okay ..nothing to get straight down too .. you don’t have to see how the individual lands in order to see their body goes limp or no movement .. she didn’t fall and immediately try to get back up , but okay carry on
@@amirabrown9643 Yeah not until a trained responder is there to help you, unless you are trained. You do not move them yourself unless the situation is so dangerous that you cannot wait for help to come and for their safety and yours, you must move. There was no danger, he shouldn't have touched her at all except to make sure that she was breathing.
AshleighEM I was shocked! Anyone with basic first aid training would know not to move her at all and the first thing he did (because he was concerned about her) is lift her head off the ice.
AshleighEM you read my mind it looked like she passed out for a second, but at the same time she was able to get up and continue. Even if she did get up she could still have a broken neck and not know it. My step-brother hurt his neck during a spill from his surf board he went home and mentioned his neck was sore from the spill. The next morning he woke up with his neck swollen and really sore so they went to the Er after X-ray he went into surgery to put his broken neck in a halo. He could of paralyzed himself that night simply by turning his neck in his sleep or in the morning when he thought it was just stiff.
He looked ready to. I think the guy wanted to to make sure she was okay. But I understand her as a sports person in a routine you want to accomplish something and she was determined riding it out was brave of her.
In figure skating you cannot stop in the middle of a program or else you'll lose a good amount of points, if they had stopped to check for any bad injuries they would have had to probably forfeit. As an ex skater myself the biggest thing to do after having a fall or anything is to finish the program and that's what we are taught to do as skater from our coach. It may not sound right but that's the reality of figure skating.
Gabriel Clemente I think they meant that the skater should have stopped completely, doesn’t matter if you have to forfeit, safety in ANY sport is priority and she looked pretty dazed by the fall and she may even have lost consciousness for a second or two. Sure they may only get a handful of opportunities to skate at big comps but getting to the top or being the best is NEVER worth risking your safety after have a fall, especially when it is a serious head injury.
@@amyc5437but what I'm trying to say is that I know it was a bad fall we could all see, but as figure skaters we were always taught to finish the program. Yes it was a bad fall and yes she should seek medical attention but no one knows how much effort skaters put into the sport. Skaters have probably experienced worse in everyday training. It may not seem worth from an outside perspective but as a skater that's what we have to go through. Coaches have always taught us to finish the program. I remember my coach telling me that he doesn't care if I sprain my ankle or get a concussion in the middle of competition, just do your best and finish the skate which I agree for many reasons. It may not seem right but that's how much athletes want it. Plus they were already almost done the program with a really good skate besides that fall and a couple others.
@@gabrielj.clemente6240 are you sure that's not just your coach? From the way you talk about them, they sound a bit harsh. My coach always values my health and constantly checks if I'm okay even if I only tripped over my toe pick. But at the same time I can see the other point of yes generally we are trained to keep going and finish the program. We also don't know what was going on in her head but clearly she decided to keep going, the reason behind that we may never know.
Oh they are beautiful to watch and my heart went out both times- but what troopers- they carried in ! Well done you two, your routine was amazing anyway! Xx
The fact that I can barely walk without tripping myself and then watching the two people skaters' beautiful routine made me tearful when she fell, even knowing it would happen at some point didn't take away from the magic of the performance.

Her 2nd fall was severe & you could tell she was disorientated by that fall, it took her a while to get up on her feet. I was shocked to see her finish the routine. They had some beautiful spins together!
I feel like she was unsteady from the start. Their synchronization was great, but her landings were so precarious. Glad she wasn’t seriously injured though
Yeah she must have been experiencing an injury or an underlying illness... certainly was off the entire skate. Poor thing !! Good on then for finishing

i can't believe they let them continue. all i keep thinking about is Natasha Richardson. you don't play around with head injury. i really hope she'll be alright
anye76 I know. Honestly though, not as bad as Yuzu’s concussion-quad-splatfest... She was off and it was clear from the start, you can see bad landings and trip ups a lot. Also ik that this is getting a lot of hate becuse thye didn’t stop, but that’s simply what they are trained to do. I don’t agree with it in this case, but that’s how this sport is.
Veronica Sendor I agree with you, in many performance sports we are taught that no matter if the stunt falls (in my case since I’m a competitive cheerleader) or if you get injured during the performance you have to keep going until the very end. You can see a moment of hesitation from the guy when he picked her up, a lot of people are saying he shouldn’t have grabbed her like that but I’m sure he was just as worried as anyone else and simply didn’t know what to do so just decided to play it off as “gracefully” as possible as if it was part of the performance all along. And I’m sure she told him to keep going because after all a lot of performers rather finish the performance and hold in the pain than get points deducted. Which I seriously do not recommend because it could be extremely dangerous (as seen in the video) but it’s the most “professional” thing to do 🤷🏻♀️
Yes I noticed something was wrong with her from the start as well, a couple wobbles when landing and a fall before that. I think either she was tired, sick, or having problems with her skates.
Veronica Sendor exactly!!! I’m a majorette ( I do competitive baton ) and while competing I threw my baton too close and when I came up from my illusion I hit my face and sliced my nose from my glasses. There was quite a bit of blood but I still kept going or else in would’ve gotten disqualified and as a athlete or a performer you are always taught to finish no matter what. As much as it sucks, it happens all the time

Absolutely exquisite but at the same time extremely dangerous. This woman is a true professional, the way she recovered and continued under impossible circumstance is truly admirable. What determination.
As a never-done-proper-figure-skating, I've seen this type of fall happen in a few other videos too... Usually that's the end of the routine. In Ashley's case, apparently she went to the hospital afterwards and turns out she did have a concussion...
@@Abacus_Zephyr she could have fainted, maybe dehydrated, stressed, not enough fuel/food in her body, POTS, I have it & I blackout a lot. I wouldn’t go on ice even if… I could tolerate that awful noise & know makes, or have enough stability in my too bendy body and I’d need a duvet cut and sewn so I could wear it 😂 Loads of reasons why she could be fainting, blacking out and having syncope attacks. It should be investigated because our bodies don’t just faint, there’s always a cause
Just a guess but I'm thinking there was something perhaps going on with her blood sugar. There are multiple moments before that fall where you can tell she is shaky and wobbly, especially in some landings. The women in pairs skating try to keep their weight under a certain number so that they can be lifted and tossed etc. It would not surprise me if that were a key factor and this incident, and that she didn't have sufficient fuel before going out onto the ice. My heart really went out to them watching this. You can see how concerned her partner is, and you can also see how determined she is to get through the routine. We ask a lot of athletes that represent us. Much respect to them!!
Yeah, I was analyzing her the whole time while hoping that it wouldn't be too severe. She is certainly off her game at several points. Low blood sugar must certainly be a top culprit. Add in the nature of ice and that first fall.
I watched this live and was screaming for the referee to do something. That is literally their job, there is no way Ashley should have been allowed to continue after this.
Perhaps they should have stopped but this means a lot to the skaters, if she didn't get up or was showing signs that she physically couldn't skate safely, they would have called it but you can see the partner asking if she was OK and she wanting to carry on, if he sensed that she couldn't do the lifts and jumps because she was too wobbly or not with it, he would have stopped but this is a long long time training and putting time and sweat into this that falling twice is bad enough, not finishing is like adding salt, so it's easy to see why they didn't automatically step in, I personally think they should have stepped in, but I also understand why they didn't.
My tear drop for both of them, they have practiced a lot for this show and she has such a strong heart to carry on 😥 I hope everything will be ok for her in both physically and mentally status
I notice she is having bad landing the moment they start..Maybe there is something with the lady..So sad for her,but she is really professional, she never stop.
Yes! I think her partner noticed it too. Once she jumped and got back down he seemed unconsciously reached his hands out a bit to her as if wanted to catch her because her fall was unstable and she managed to kept skating so he suddenly continue to dance and put his arms away
And this is why Pair Skaters have my ultimate respect. I’m surprised they kept going with their routine! And as a former lifeguard, I was taught not to touch the head when it comes to head injuries; the first thing you should do is stabilization.
Me that's why they don't have it. Your partner life should be put before any competition. He should have let her lay down and make sure she was really okay even if she was, then he would have still check but he only put her head up and unintentionally could have injured her even worst... This whole situation is just so wrong, I just think about the fact that human life is so fragile she was very lucky
Neï Tha she was the one that made him go on. He didn’t make her keep going. He shouldn’t have lifted her head but that was more of an impulse reaction to check if she was okay, rather than a “come on we gotta finish.”
