LOVE being able to see the tips in place at your home! It's beautiful and the tips are super helpful! PLEASE continue with a whole series!!!!! "Thanks....until next time"
Thank you for such a great video. 💕I like that it was not repetitive, it was to the point w/ no “clutter of excessive words and packed with good ideas!!!!
Thank you! I'm retired and I love to decor my home. I enjoy learning more. My first video I've watched on you. Your easy to follow for this ol lady. Much thanks!
My pleasure Cindy! Thanks for coming by. If you love decorating, you will love my podcast, Decorating Tips & Tricks. decoratingtipsandtricks.com or listen on any podcast player.
That's what it is all about Carrol - Considering the ideas with respect your your own home & lifestyle. Hearing something, makes you consider, evaluate, maybe look at something in your home differently. This is all great and leads to better design!
A great alternative to an indoor rug under the dining table if you have kids/pets is a very nice outdoor patio rug. They are easy to clean and they are made to withstand outdoor use, so they are not fragile.
I changed my decor last year from classic tradational home to farmhouse. I had several of my grandmother's pieces I didn't want to part with. But they no longer matched my new decor. I struggled with what to do, then it came to me. I can change these pieces to work in my new style. So I fell in love with chalk paint ❤! So the pieces of hers (shelves that was too dark, gilded mirror frames etc) got a new life in new colors that now worked. The best part I didn't have to part with them! I think that's a huge rule to follow when decorating, is shop your home. I do this regularly. If I get tired of seeing something I love it to another room to bring it new life in a new location. Rather then going out and buying new. I was able to go out spend $30 on chalk paint & wax to bring new life to pieces that I very much loved. My grandmother was the queen of decorating 😊❤, she could turn any room into the most inviting, cozy, and welcoming space. I'm so happy I learned from her & took the things she taught me to make my home the same inviting, cozy & welcoming space. Be blessed ❤
I just viewed your video, again; as I am rearranging some areas in our home. I just love the way you present your ideas and how Professional you give a feeling to your viewers. Thank you again so very much. Keep the videos coming, if you please 🌟🧡🌟😊💐
You are the first decorator that I have been able to use your tips and ideas directly in my own home. You have rich quality but down to earth helpful ideas. and I love that you do not have a fast screechy pitch to your speaking. I love your home as well. Thanks for a wonderful fresh approach and great practical advice
Cindy it makes me so happy to hear that you feel you can use my ideas & tips in your home. I strive for practical decor advice that improves not only the look, but the functionality of a home. Thx so much for watching!
Thank you, Kelly. This was so very helpful as I begin my decorating projects for this coming year. I especially appreciated your idea about planking the ceiling! I, too, enjoy keeping my antique silver teapot in a small vignette with fresh flowers in my entry. It feels so warm and welcoming. AND, may I add that I LOVE your enjoyment of country French décor. We lived in France and I fell in love!
@@MySoulfulHome We lived in Alsace and also just outside of Paris in Chantilly. However, our favorite place to go is Lourmarin in the south of France whenever we can swing it! Fantastic Friday market! Although, we visited the markets wherever we lived! We love France so very much and made some beautiful memories there.
I always enjoy your videos & think the tips are well-thought out and interesting. One little quibble: Perhaps extra long draperies work if the drapes never move. However, functional drapes should just almost kiss the floor so that they can slide back and forth without dragging. Keep the videos coming!
love your mix of wood , metals, glass and light enhancing mirrors that reflect . Elegant yet cosy and natural enough with some styling. lovely colours chosen in this video , fresh and clean country feel with the creamy soft flowers and white ceramics against the warm wood.
I enjoyed these tips. My favorite tip: create a vignette to greet you at your front door. I love stark, very white ceilings but will try and keep an open mind towards other types. Thank you for sharing your expertise. It is appreciated.
Thank you! I so enjoyed this video. I had a beautiful colonial home in New Hampshire filled with family pieces and found decorations. I loved making the home warm and welcoming. I am in a small apartment now, and have once again become inspired to make it as beautiful as possible for my own enjoyment. Your home is so lovely!
Great tips. However, I personally dislike the creased and puddling look. It doesn't work for people who have pets and, well, a life. And in the UK many homes have radiators under windows and people here often have curtains that stop at the window sill. Some have the longer drapes and keep them open and use blinds that reach the sil. No doubt there are people who crease and puddle. And I agree weight and balance is crucial.
LOL I use decorative books as part of decor. I have a beautiful rug under my dining room table. I've always had one but my daughter gave me a BEAUTIFUL rug this past summer.
I have never taken the time to leave a comment on a RU-vid page, so this is a first! I keep coming back to your channel to see if you have any new videos out. I have enjoyed each and every one and look forward to and am hoping to see more to come! Your tips are very practical, and my favorite take away from watching your channel are Vignettes!! I have enjoyed creating them all over my home.. they are a game changer for sure, and I LOVE them. Now, when we go on vacations, I look for small unique items for the vignettes to remember the vacation by. (Like you have mentioned in your video). So i wanted to take the time to THANK YOU for sharing your talents with us. PLEASE MAKE MORE VIDEOS! (:
Hi Karen! Thanks so much for getting in touch. I am thrilled that you are enjoying my videos. I plan to release many more in 2021. 2020 video making was tough with ALL the Zooming people in our house! I love that you enjoy making vignettes - me too! Each one is like a little art installation and especially when you add treasures from your life & travels. Hit the notification bell so I'll get word when I have a new video. Hate to have you checking back all the time. I have just started posting in the "community" section so join in there between videos...and you can always hang out with me every Wednesday on my podcast - Decorating Tips & Tricks. decoratingtipsandtricks.com. xx
I love your home! Most of the decor vids I watch deal with modern or contemporary decor. I hate modern! Contemporary is alright depending on the pieces and the room. Your home feels warm, inviting and very homey . Not cold and empty. I strive to make my home feel that way. Thanks for the tips
Loved your video. Just ran across it. I have a rather large house and have of the decorations are very old and cheap . I hate clutter , but sometime I feel like I have to many pictures or to many candles . Looking forward to watching the video for Balance!
Hi Kelly. Question. Is this way kind decor Timeless? I don't care for what's in . I want a beautiful, warm, relaxing and homey feel in every room in my apartment.
Celia I am soo with you on timeless... Beautiful, warm, relaxing, homey are always "in". I think your question auto corrected to 'way kind decor'. What specific decor were you asking about. There is a whole podcast episode on Timeless Decor. Listen here: www.decoratingtipsandtricks.com/350
Hi I didn't realize you had answered me . Your tutorials are great. I do love brown furniture the ceiling that you showed in this video I love tapestries ,wood, glass ,stone ,velvet ,marble, English style gardens and natural materials. I don't care for steel or plastic I'll look at the suggested video.
Yes the entry is a perfect place to decorate seasonally or o a whim. It is usually a small area so you pick one spot, like an entry table & create something beautiful. Thx for watching!
I think it can work Lezley. Sometimes tearing up carpeting is just not an option. Make sure the area rug is large to cover a sizable amount of the wall to wall. I am doing just this very thing with a client this week. She rents and wants more color from the rug. Thx for watching!
I love your couch! Where? Mine is just a little bit too long for my space, I think yours would fit better and I love the curve of the back, it is so protective, and easy to get under to sweep! One question tho, isn't dark blue or black difficult to keep looking clean because the eye picks up every tiny white speck? I have this trouble in my car with a black interior. No matter how often I vaccuum, or wipe down, it shows everything that isn't supposed to be there!
Hi Wendy, I got my sofa at my favorite thrift store & I had it reupholstered. It is dark charcoal linen fabric. Yes I do have to deal with some visible lint, but marks do not show. Life is a series of trade offs! Thx for watching...
Can you do a video about colors that go together? I am trying to figure out the three colors that I would like to use but don’t really know where to start. Especially if you do colors that are unusual.
Great tips! I like how you said to allow the room to breathe. Sometimes I think it's too cluttered with stuff, but it's actually too much furniture. I have difficulty figuring out what's needed when the room just doesn't "feel" right. Looking forward to more vids! Tfs!
Thanks for the decorating tips, it's going to make my double wide mobile home the talk of the trailer park. Just can't wait for the friends to come over for pizza and beer, and see what I've done to the place.
Very good advice and you offer it in a way that's not threatening. Some say to purge or minimize everything and to me that's a huge turnoff. Your advice on the dining room rug size is very helpful. I subbed because I've got the pieces, but my puzzle looks like it's still just in the box. Haha! Plus I craft and sew so that adds to everything. Thanks for the videos.
As a homemaker I feel incompetent as a decorator. I never knew there was help for people like me. You are so beautiful and I love the real examples you shared with us. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Subscribed!
Thank you! This was wonderful! I struggle with choosing a color palette for decorating. I always lean to black & white/cream & then never end up with any color.
Love this series--yes, more, please! I am guilty of having too much furniture, my grandmother's antiques that I adore plus collections of things I love. My house may never be magazine worthy but I still like to try to be a good decorator.
Hi! I would like to ask you a question: My close and small foyer is in my living area. When I walk into my living room/foyer to the left I have an entry table to divide the foyer from the living area. I then have some space between the entry table and the sofa. I have placed a palm in that space ( between entry table and sofa). I also have a vase of flowers on the entry table as well. Does this all sound like to much together or what should I do....I tried explaining it to you so you can imagine how it all is. I appreciate your advice or suggestions.

Love your tips! Please continue the series! At present there isn’t any painted furniture in my living room. Can you please provide some insight with regard to furniture with various wood tones. Can you have too many different wood tones? Is there a rule of thumb? Thank you so much for sharing! 👍🏻😊🌺
Hi Cheryl :) I have a podcast episode for you - Rules for Mixing Wood Tones! Click HERE: www.decoratingtipsandtricks.com/215 Listen and lmk if you have any questions. Thx for watching!!
Just wondering what kind of flowers you have in your white pitcher? I heard you say what they were and how easy to grow but did understand clearly what flowers it is. Thank you. I love your tips..😊
Very good tips. We are doing a major clean out of accumulated stuff to move from the Blue Ridge Mountain Foothills to the sea. We will be downsizing and completely changing decor.
I love to decorate it's just something I love to do I change the house so much I don't have a beautiful beautiful home like you but I try with what I have today I made my kitchen a black and white I'm just trying so hard I really enjoyed your video I wish I had more people around me that did it I love DIYs I thank you for this video
I'm grateful this showed up in my recommended! 💕 I love when I find channels that are calm and interesting! New sub! 🌺 Looking forward to more videos, and I will definitely go back and watch your previous ones. Greetings from Chicagoland. xx~laura
Welcome Laura! Thank you for joining me here. My daughter & I were just in Chicago. She singing with her school choir. Me as chaperone. Wonderful city!
J. Potter I saw this rug in Country Home Magazine . Google and ask them to send you a copy. They will Great finds for decorating your home; without the high $$$ prices :).
I agree with the drapes and have heard that for years, but why do all the stores continue to sell drapes that are only 84" in length. I know I can order longer drapes but I like to touch and see the material in person. Any suggestions?
Hi Jennifer - find companies that will send you swatches & do custom lengths. Smith & Noble will. Maybe Barn & Willow and I bet you can find someone on Etsy who would send a swatch or two and do custom. Hope that helps!
We have patio doors in our condo. West facing with sun afternoons. You say to hang curtains to the floor-what do you do with any coverings when there is a heat vent that runs under the doorway complete wall. It's only about 7 inches high. I have seen the curtains go to the top of the heat vent and it looks okay but need other suggestions. Also what do you think about floors in laminate that are dull with no shine or vice versa. Personally I love a sine go my floors but the husband and I are not in agreement. As you can see we have a delema.

I enjoyed decorating for the longest especially my Dinning Room plus my Living Room . I wish one day the decorate houses that are for sale . But where I live there is no one does does that . I believe the house will sell quickly if you decorate the whole house etc . Etc. please help learn more about how to start a business in. The future for me.
Yikes!! Hang on!! Easy fix. Rugs are pretty inexpensive these days. Can you layer a sisal underneath the one you have if you love it? Or use it elsewhere?

Thank you for your tips for decorating. I struggle with this. I know when I see something that I like but to actually put it in action is difficult. Kind of funny that my 3 girls all have a great sense of decorating…not sure where they acquired it. I look forward to hearing and seeing more!
I bet they got it from you Barbara!! Where else? You might enjoy my podcast. Give a listen here decoratingtipsandtricks.com . We often talk about action plans so to speak.
Thank you. Will be building a home soon and looking for ways to add character. If you have opportunity to include tips, as you did with the ceilings, would be greatly appreciated.
Let's think about a whole video on adding character. I definitely have podcast episodes on that very topic! check out my podcast here: decoratingtipsandtricks.com Congratulations on building a new home. I once built from scratch. It is very exciting to see it all coming together. Just be wary of the tendency to grow beyond budget!
I love your tips! I struggle so much because I live in a very small apartment with 5 other people. Every room has to function as more than one room... For example: living room is also dining room, and play room. Kitchen is also laundry room, storage, and craft room. Etc.😕
Jennifer young I kept art and homework supplies in a rolling chest of drawers under the middle of the dining room table. It was far enough from people’s knees, the stuff was close to hand for working on projects, but was neatly stored in otherwise dead space. Maybe that would help. Also replace coffee table with a toy chest, with an upholstered top. I keep the game console remotes in a basket that slides under the sofa.

Hi Ruby - my couch is from my favorite thrift store. I had it reupholstered in a charcoal linen. Bet you can find a similar one in a thrift or consignment shop near you.
Great video!!! you covered pretty much everything a non decorator person should know/do to have a warm cozy home!!! May I add one thing? you mentioned doing objects in 3 when it comes to a Vignette (and I believe you mentioned the same on a previous video)... personally, I like more objects in my vignettes and they usually work as long that there`s either an odd number of things (3, 5...) and always at different heights but not necessarily 3. Anyway, great video!!! love your style!!!
Odd numbers are key - more objects can definitely work. In general 3 makes a vignette, less no - more yes. If more make it well curated and use an odd number of objects. Thanks for your comment and for watching!
Hello, I just discovered you channel, I noticed your decor books , the French books. My question is, I have a small French table that I want to paint. I’m having a hard time picking a true French blue paint color , could you help me please? Thank you
Not necessarily Shan. Really depends on whether you have messy kitchen eaters! Kitchen is more casual so can do without. That being said, I just added a rug in my kitchen and I love it!
I really enjoy your RU-vid channel. I love your decorating style, although I now live in Az and have leather furniture😞 only because of our two large dogs. I will go back to a more traditional chic style once I’m able to!
Thanks for the tips! My biggest downfall is placing too many things on my fireplace mantle and shelf. I’ll bet you would croak if you saw it. It’s really hard for me to not keep adding just one more thing. I’m getting ready to redo it so I will try to keep things to the minimum.😏
