I just purchased 5 of them they are truly great! Seriously, purchase and if not satisfied return it. You will NOT be returning it. It is truly awesome1
Good review of a tough water container. If I am correct, I believe you will find the small pour outlet is iron pipe thread on some of these which would allow you to attach a light weight (pvc) valve or spigot as a faucet for washing hands, filling water bottle, canteens, etc. Thanks for sharing.
I bought 2 last year and love them. I bought it primarily to have on my Jeep for the annual Wheelers for the Wounded ride in Marble Falls Texas in May..Great event for our wounded hero's and their families. As you mentioned, will be filling them with ice and should have plenty cold water by the next day!
These are great. You can stand on them, that's how tough they are. He's right about cleaning them out before usage. Mine had bits of plastic rattling around in them. Be careful not to scrape when cleaning since the inside scratches pretty easily.
Hi Luke, I hope you're having a great week and lots of outdoor adventures! I love these water containers, I have 8 of these, I keep a few filled up in back of my truck, and around the house, very useful, But there's one very minor problem I have with it, they could add another handle on the spine or back, or even on the front of the container for easier pouring, instead of having to hug it with the other arm while using the one handle on top, other than that its great, and very durable. -Jake
These are exact copies of the jerry cans made by Scepter, probably under licence -about half the price of a genuine Scepter though. Be aware, LC Industries is a US company, Scepter is a Canadian company. They are great cans, the main issue to be aware of though, is the seal on that huge opening. There is a reason why bottles generally dont have huge wide screw tops, it's because the larger the hole, the harder it is to seal. The tops on these cans do have a tendency to leak, particularly if there is any damage to the mating surface that seals against the gasket. Other than that though, they are excellent.
These are great cans. I own three. At 0:36 correction: FYI these cans do have a seam because they are molded plastic, but still solid construction. This seam is visible in your video in multiple places like 1:30. The Parting plane of the mold is through the plane of symmetry and this is the seam location.
I picked one up at a gun show. It was pretty rough looking on the outside. I would never buy a used one sight unseen but a little light from my flashlight and a sniff of my nose told me $15 was a good price. Then later that same month my local hardware store had three of them for $9 each!!! They've really come in handy for car camping and as part of my preps. I keep one in my car with 4 gallons of water in it. It can freeze solid with no damage.
We used this in the military and I can say, they are practically indestructible. We would use one to rest the rear ramp on an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) to create a platform to eat, sleep or just to sit on. Those ramps are armored and probably weighed a ton or more.
Lexington container company, $40 a piece and free shipping on anything over $30. Free shipping is nice for when you want to place an order for heavy metal ammo cans and their prices are pretty fair. This is a good default site. I bought 2 5 gallon containers and 1 2.5 gallon container from them. Mine don't say U.S. Gov. property, but they are nearly identical made by Scepter Canada. Also mine say 20 liters on the sides and the bottom nodes are designed slightly differently. Those are the only differences. My 2.5 gallon has seen lots of abuse and no issues.
As Joe Hanson pointed out 10L or 2.5 gallon cans are available as well for those who prefer something smaller. www.lexingtoncontainercompany.com/Military-Water-Cans.html
I remember when I was in Philippines when I was second year high school I used same thing like that to pail water at 4am in the morning before I go to school I used bamboo stick with hook so I can carry two at a time that's a very very good container tnx luke for sharring :)
Lovely video content! Sorry for chiming in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you heard about - Proutklarton Surviving Technics Plan (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a smashing one of a kind product for learning how to survive any crisis minus the hard work. Ive heard some super things about it and my old buddy Taylor got astronomical results with it.
Great water cans. I have 3 of the 20l Scepters. Plan on buying some of the 10l cans as I think that the smaller cans will be more practical for drinking water, while the bigger 20l cans are best for camp showers, washing dishes and clothes, ect. I want to try freezing a partially filled 10l, then top-off with fresh water for hot weather day trips. Now for the $64 question, Why did the makers of these cans NOT use standard Garden Hose Threads for the small water cap? Or even National Pipe Threads? Seems like a 'No-Brainer'..
just found your channel and have viewed a couple of your videos. great videos, great review and even a better presentation. looking forward to viewing all your video. of course, I've subscribed. thanks for sharing
Where I use to work we'd install faucets and mount them on our crew truck box. Nice for washing hands and cleaning parts off. When are you reviewing that weedeater blade ? :)
Completely off subject Luke but I was doing some walking in snow and driving hail this week. Had all the kit except decent eye ware. Eyes hurt from glare and hail strike. What eyeware would you suggest? Could be an ideal future video 😀
MsF4ucorsair There is a confectionery company in my town and we can get the 55 Gallon Barrel Drums for free. I would do some research and see what is around you. Also it's pretty easy (in my area at least) to find 275 gallon tanks for $100 or less. Take care folks. - Luke
TheOutdoorGearReview first off, love your channel. Second, I live in New York City (suburbia), and cant find any in my local home depot. Do you know of any places that ship them for reasonable prices?
I wouldn't though it would probably work fine. It has the word 'water' engraved in it in 50point type. Check with the old grouch military surplus. They get the real deal metal fuel cans. They're not sold as fuel cans mind you... They have them in red and green.
I wouldn't run the risk of confusion from the label. Also, the plastic fuel cans are also only about half as much as this water can. Misusing this can to store fuel is unsafe, a poor financial decision, and may be illegal depending on where you're using it or how you're transporting it. www.amazon.com/Scepter-Resistant-Closures-5-Gallon-Military/dp/B000MT94TC/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1425524003&sr=1-1&keywords=scepter+5+gallon is a nice can as long as you use a funnel and not the stupid CARB-compliant spout it comes with.
You can clearly see a giant seam going right up middle of the can. Why claim it is a one piece when it is clearly a two piece, and is still prone to leaking?
Too expensive ($70 at local b & m)...so i ended up using an empty 2 gallon laundry detergent bottle (type w/ built-in spigot). Just rinsed it out real good and water tastes great.
I see people that do have leaks in these and extra O rings are available. Check out this RU-vid video "How to fix and seal military water can by LCI and Scepter"
SSGama9999 Honestly I do not know. There are no markings on the container to signify this other than the food grade markings. BPA Free is pretty much a gimmick though which was started by manufacturers. Many companies have even begun advertising products as "BPA-free" but recent studies find that most plastic products leach endocrine-disrupting chemicals even if they're labeled "BPA-free." - Luke
Alfonso Casillas When it's not too cold, I find that these knit gloves are absolutely awesome. They rip to pieces very easily though but they only cost around a buck! - Luke
