This is a video I didn't know I needed so much. The love and care you put into your job is amazing. Your eyes spoke of your feelings throughout. The Undertakers who cared for my maternal great grandparents & grandparents, took care of my brother, who left us through suicide. Those moments when we feel distraught and destroyed in grief, are eased by the love poured out by church celebrants and Undertakers. I don't fear death. I strongly believe it is not the end. However, knowing there are people like you out there, brings great comfort.

If you announce funerals for veterans that have nobody, people WILL come. I think it's a very good idea. And I think burying the babies right in the earth like that is kind of beautiful in its way. I've lost more than one baby and I think that's kind of special...thank you for being there for them and for caring for them in the kind way I know you do. ❤

@@KaritheMortician I think you're so great. Watching you (& Caitlin D.) has helped my anxiety about death in general SO much. I learn so many things I wouldn't have even thought to ask and I now know what I'd like to be done for/with my own body when my time comes, where I had no idea before. It's also nice to see women in these roles of "mortician" and etc... I think there is so much honor in what you do and you do it so well. These families are blessed to have you caring for them and their loved ones. Thank you for your kindness and for educating us.

Hi Kari! Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I have to say that they were quite interesting. I don't know if you know about this or not but my great niece and her five year old little boy was murdered by the boys father in the front yard of my nieces home. When I went to the funeral home, my great niece was sort of lying on her side with her little boy in her arms. I've never seen a deceased child before nor a mother and child together. It was the most heart wrenching thing I've ever seen. I must add that whoever took care of them did an amazing job. They both looked beautiful. She was a beautiful girl. You are amazing to listen to . You are quite a woman!!! God bless you.!

Thank you Kari for sharing from your heart. You are a very caring person. The experience that touched me the most was of the small child running to his dad's casket yelling, daddy, daddy. Glad I was not there it would have been too heart braking.

My niece has just started her studies in mortuary science and I am so proud of her. Like you, this was, for a long time, a man's profession but having more women involved is, in my opinion a real plus. My niece is so interested in the restorative arts behind the scene part of the industry.

Ok, I've helped bring 16 babies into this world including some of my grandchildren , plus I've been an EMT since 94 so I've saved a lot of lives , now I want to do this work since I've helped with the preparation of some very close loved ones including my mother. I feel like this work would bring me "full circle " ...birth , life , death. Please give me your thoughts on this , I respect you so much it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you 😊

I was 4 when my Daddy was killed in a horrible car accident. I’m one of those people who has memories back to my crib. After the service Mother picked me up and walked up to view my Dad one last time. I saw him and almost lept from her arms to reach him. I did grab his jacket screaming the whole time and was finally removed by my Dad’s brother. When I saw them close the lid I flipped again. I told them to get him out of that box. I’ve been told it destroyed some of my family members but a child’s reactions are pure and heartfelt. The next day was Christmas Eve. Then Mom died 2 days before Thanksgiving. I cooked and my husband said I was a zombie. I guess I was cause the only thing I remember is insisting I must have her Lace tablecloth. Our brains protect us when we need it.

I have this habit of running your videos in the car when I have a little driving to do, like I did when I saw this video in my feed. When you got to, “Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! I was at a stoplight, which was a good thing. I had to find a napkin or something, because my face instantly started getting wet…. My mom died in July 1990 and the minister that did her service has been the pastor at our church for decades. His normal speaking voice is this deep rich baritone…. They chose him to also do an aunt’s service in 2001. I was alone in the church, looking at my aunt when he came up behind me…. He put his hand on my shoulder and said my name…. I hadn’t heard his voice in 11 years and the very sound of it…. Let’s just say I’m glad it was only the two of us. I had an instant meltdown, bawling like a baby. Edward Bowman, if you’re still out there, don’t say my name. It’s very weird to me how you can be owned by a simple voice or sound that lives in your memory like that. I have some of my mom’s 30+ year old cologne that does exactly the same thing to me. The memories just immediately appear.

Dear Kari, Thank you for sharing those touching memories and reflections of 20 years of being of service to others in the funeral profession. You are an inspiration to all of us both inside and outside of the funeral business. I had the good fortunate as a young person to work for several funeral homes during college and then continuing after school for two years as a mortuary student and as an apprentice. My career path changed before I was licensed, but honestly I still miss being in funeral service. I have lived vicariously through your you tube channel and enjoy your open and honest representation of the profession. I probably assisted with over a thousand services during my brief time in funeral service. Even though it’s been over 45 years, I too have such vidid memories of particular services and challenging situations. I learned lessons that prepares me for life. Never to take any moment for granted, and to appreciate every day as a blessing and a gift. I’ve been watching your channel grow and proposed for years. And today’s topic inspired me to finally write and says THANK YOU for educating us, and inspiring us to care for one another regardless of our profession! Bravo Kari!

When you mentioned seeing the woman in the store who did an about face. It’s funny how certain things can trigger emotions. The funeral home that took care of my son had a certain air freshener in their building. To this day almost eleven years later I cannot stand the smell of that particular air freshener. My grief comes to the surface all over again.

I did not collapse at my daughter's wake, but the guy she was seeing did. He was lying on the floor sobbing loudly. He had been drinking though. I think people thought I would do that, but I was in shock and calm. I also lost a 20 week baby. Both of my girls were taken care of by the same funeral home. They did put the baby in a small casket and the burial was free.

Years ago my daughter had a son that was on life support machines. He passed away at 5 months old. She never held her son at anytime while alive. She requested that she could hold him. The funeral home let her and the babies father hold him after the evening visitation. I’m glad that they allowed her to do that we took pictures. Although with years but still had to be comforting in some way.

I'm new to your channel and I'm also coming up on 21 years at my job as a baker! I find your line of work so fascinating, and my daughter is about to graduate high school and is thinking about becoming a mortician! She wants to see if she can handle it first though. It would be a hard, but very rewarding profession! Thank you for all you do and you are very informative and so caring! ❤

You are amazing. It must be hard to work with families and not show your emotions. It takes a special person to do your job.

Thank you for the recollections. It is a difficult job that I could never, ever do...but I was thinking especially of that murder victim, someone tried to steal every shred of her dignity, and your work restored that stripped dignity. I appreciate it. I have said this before but I truly wish I had seen these videos at the time of my wife's death in 2018; it would have been so helpful. I appreciate you sharing these things.
