The Big Blean Walk is a 29-mile circular walk in Kent. It passes through beautiful woodland and fields. Ordinarily, it would be quite straightforward but mud and flooding continues to be an issue in this part of England. Many thanks to friend and subscriber Mike who joined me for this one. It was a good 20-mile training session for our long-distance hiking projects this year. Mike is getting ready for tackling the West Highland Way and I've now officially started my training for Wainright's Coast to Coast. Despite the bail, all walking and hiking is good training so definitely not a fail! Many thanks for watching.

Good effort getting that mileage in anyway chaps! Thinking back - we never even got a proper Summer last year as I remember.. as all it did was rain even back then, we basically had 3 two week blocks of fine weather with no rain and that was it! And it’s now not (for very long) stopped raining since back in October 2023… I live in the Midlands (just 70 mins drive from the Peak District) and the ground is totally sodden over here too! I can’t imagine it being any different anywhere in the UK right now. Let’s just hope we get a long, largely dry summer this year!?..🤷🏻‍♂️

Well done for hiking 20 miles through the mud! Hope the ground begins to dry out soon and you're able to camp again.

Just think how much fun you'll have when you get back to soggy-less camping Ben. Plus, this is a training exercise...so, it's character building 😉👌

Saturated here in south Wales, as well. The area around my tent the other night was like a mudbath!

Another tough ol’ slog, Ben. At least you know where to go for meat if you fancy a BBQ 😁👍🏼 Shame you had to Jack in again. No big deal, it’ll be there again for both.

Then Imagine doing a thru hike like me doing 6 days of Rob Roy Way in the middle of Scotland with crazy weather! You just need to find something no matter what! One night was at abbandoned camper van and somebodys field, was 50mph wind and proper rain. Saved my ass that night even tho it was a bit creepy and covered in sheep poo etc lol. Wet feet everyday.

I think you did well to do as far as you did . The conditions looked pretty wet which is definitely not what you want on a long hike.👍

Absolutely nothing wrong with that Ben, well done for both of you for getting a 20 mile hike in through some pretty challenging conditions 👌. Showed great mental and physical resilience, and sets you both up well for your upcoming long distance trails👣. As for the failed wild Camp, think you tried just about everything to make it happen, sometimes these things just aren't meant to be. Fingers crossed the weather improves soon and the paths dry up. Thanks for taking us along for the muddy ride! Have a great week, Shell and Pete 😊👊👍

It's certainly just as bad up here in the North West Midlands Ben. Walking for any distance off road in general is just unpleasant. As for wild camping, I think hammocking in a pine forest where the ground doesn't retain water is my only chance for a good while yet! Luck has got to change soon mate. Hang in there. And good luck with the C2C training 👍

I've not been out on the moor for a while now, everything is saturated in the south west too. Good mileage achieved though so not all bad.

I get quite a lot of use out of my hammock. It opens up more options as boggy ground and slopes aren't issues.

I found those seal skinz to be awful, really uncomfortable, like wearing a carrier bag under your socks...I wore them for a day and then sent them back, the shape of them too wasn't nice.
