There was one story where Lee had been talking to David's wife about something and had told her to not tell David about it so he could use it on the show. There's another one about David wearing a man-bun during lockdown and Lee knew the answer because they had Facetimed during the lockdown.
David's cape shows his mother had the same reaction to children outgrowing clothes as mine, I hate to think about all the paper wadded up in my shoes all those years.
That "Doctor Who" cloak is interesting. Cause it's so obviously based on Pertwee, but David is a bit young for Pertwee. He'd be more likely to have grown up with Tom Baker.
David Mitchell is an excellent actor actually. I can see him in a Beckett play, easily. Or, in any of the existentialist playwrights' plays. (Camus: The Stranger; Beckett: Waiting for Godot; Alberto Moravia: Boredom, etc) Come on West End, move!!! [I mean... Keanu Reeves in Godot? You've got to be kidding... 🙄]
Mitchell is certainly not suited to the stage. You may as well say ‘he’s funny, he could be a stand up’. He works well as a sitcom actor and panel show captain but knows his limits
David Mitchell has appeared numerous times on stage in "The Footlights" as well as touring "The Two Faces of Mitchell and Webb" and additionally in "Upstart Crow". He details his love of treading the boards in his autobiography, which the audiobook of is widely available.
