I was so tempted to voice this whole thing as Chills (also I don't know who drew dabbing moomin in the thumbnail, but if I find the artist I shall like to shake their paw)
1. Mama Mymble is thicc and thats just straight facts 💅 2. I didn't know Sniff's VA also did the Groke. But thats hilarious 😭 3. Also, as a neurodivergent myself, imma just pretend those headcanons are true ❤
He was reportedly responsible for lots of the things Tove didn't like, which is what led her to kind of disowning the adaptation as a whole because it strayed so far from her vision. However, it's curious when you think about it, because in the long run, both Tove and Miyazaki were known for their distaste for wars (both having lived through the second world war), appreciation for the environment, and a recurring theme of there not being one "bad guy" to blame everything on since things are so much more complex than that.
I don't appreciate all the presumptions and liberalities all these intersectional channels are taking to assimilate and regurgitate yet another tangentially related IP as if it was their own simply due to yet another missunderstanding of Venn Diagrams and how they work.
I asked my Italian friend if there was a linguistic reason why the Italian dub couldn't use "Snufkin" (e.g. containing a phrase that's rude in Italian or using sounds not found in the language) and he said no, the Italian dub team just really wanted to call Snufkin "Wilson"
In the italian dub of the 90' cartoon he was called Wilson for no reason but in the books, comics and Moominvalley he is called Tabacco. I have literary no idea why he is ever called Wilson in the anime.
@@asimpleuser8570 I don't know when and where it was used but when I looked up information on Snufkin in german his name was listed as Schnupferrich which I guess can be roughly translated as Sniffle-kid/Sniffler but I prefer to read it as Booger-boy and now I'm wondering is that what his original finish name means? We all thought he was the coolest most mysterious charming character but this whole time his name was Running-nose-Mcgee!? Ps: Ah yes Tabbaco my favourite kids book character. Who ever made that decision was probably not fond of boogers. They tried to save it they really did but they really didn't lmao.
@@acanimatics906 The thing is that old cartoon that used foreign names like the Moomins or any sort of anime had their characters' name completely changed in Italy. If the world knew Sailor Moon as Usagi we Italian knew her by Bunny... Which is okay because it's the English version of her Japanese name but all the other characters had names that meant nothing and we're usually old Italians name so people wouldn't be confused by names like Mamoru or even Darien (we called him Marzio and Milord). It was a trend to use American's and veeeeeeery ancient Italian's names because anything Japanese related confused the Italian audience. It's basically the same story as the "jelly filled donuts" thing. Wilson doesn't mean a single thing in Italian, it's literally just a name that sounded rad and American for a character that was cool and so they picked it up. Tabacco, tho, makes more sense as a name for the Italian's version since Snufkin is affiliated with smoking in the books and the comics and his original name literally means Snuffbox (in Italian "Tabaccheria"). P.S. Have you ever heard of Fujiko? Lupin's companion and love interest? My mom loves Lupin but since the Italian's version used Margot as the name of Fujiko for literally 20 years and just now started to call her Fujiko, she thought that Lupin had two major girlfriends and was hating hard this new girl because she loves Margot (the fact that the hair of Fujiko changed from red to brunette didn't help). It took me two whole months to make her understand that they are the same person.
@@asimpleuser8570 Her name was Bunny in german too :D I knew he smoked and realized tobacco was choosen most likely because of it but I didn't know about his original name literally translating to Snuffbox! Damn. Still cooler than sneezing-teen tho. Yeah from what I've seen from the media from the era I grew up with it was more common with cartoons then anime here. Like Huey, Dewey and Louie from Ducktales were called Tick, Trick and Track here. All the 90's anime I watched name wise still stuck mostly to the original. Stuff like the jelly donut incident still happened since I believe they used to use the english scripts as the reference for their own. Omg not a name thing but I remember having to explain to my mother that the Heidi, Nils Holgerson, Maya and Vicky my sister was watching where all 3d reboots and not in fact the original that I was watching back then. Like you can tell it's new and not from the 90's?
Another fun fact for a future video, the Comet in Moominland had custom soundtrack made for the Finnish version, while the Japanese one used the one in the show.
Fun fact for a future video: They've reanimated a few scenes of the 90s moomin for the dubbed versions, for example, the scene where snufkin jumps off a boat. In the japanese version he seems happy and excited to jump off, but for the rest of dubs he's oddly bored.
More fun facts: - Moomintroll's English VA, Susan Sheridan, also voiced Princess Eilonwny in the Disney movie The Black Cauldron and Noddy. Sadly, she is no longer with us. - Little My and Snorkmaiden was voiced by the same VA in the English dub of 90s Moomins - While Moomins is seldom heard of in the U.S., there is a Moomin shop in Hawaii
Also fun fact, In Japanese dub Of 1990's series Moomin voice actor is Minami Takayama. Same voice actor who also did voice of Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Conan Edogava from Detective Conan, and Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service. Sniff have same voice actor who also did voice of Freeza from Dragon Ball Z. And Snufkin's voice actor of course did voice of Dio Brando. Little My's voice actor Rei Sakuma was also voice of Jiji from Kiki's Delivery Service, Leona Ozaki from New Dominion Tank Police, and Molly from The Ancient Magus Bride. Moominpapa's voice actor is Akio Otsuka, voice of Black Beard from One Piece, Batanen from Hyper Police, and of course, voice of Totoro. And in one point Stinky was voice by Chikao Otsuka, who also was voice of Professor Moriarty from Sherlock Hound, and Dr. Eggman from Sonic X.
@@moomshroomsoup Yeah, it's kind a confusing, because Moomin wikipedia page says otherwise, but Chikao Otsuka's wikipedia page says he was voice of Stinky. Possibly only in few episodes.
Oh my god, yes on the Neurodivergent hc's! The minute I started reading and watching The Moomin's, I immediately picked up on Autistic traits from Snufkin. As an Autistic/ADHD person, I love those HC's! Yes Moominpapa is 100% ADHD!❤
Nice! I didnt know most of these!:) I appreciate all the research and effort you put into these video's! Funny fact; atm I am drawing a picture of Snufkin^^ P.s. how is the Hobgoblin's magic hat dub coming along?;)
Snuffkin, Thimgumy and Too-ticky all were based on Tove Janssons lovers Tuulikki Pietilä was her long time partner and insperstion for Too-ticky Vivica Bander was Thimgumy (the orignal swedish name Viffslan) and Tove was Bob (original name Toffslan) in the original dub Bob and thingumy have 'thier own language' which was a methphor for thier love which was illgeal 'not everybady understads them but They understand echother' Atos Witrtanen was Snuffkin, and hus green hat actully was a hat Atos had in real life
Ulla Tapaninen also voiced Sarabi in the Lion King! Coincidentally, Satu Silvo, who voiced Moominmamma in the 2019 Moomins, also voiced Sarabi in the 2019 ”live action” Lion King :D
@@GandyDaGei "In the sight of the Seven, I hereby see you these two souls, binding them as one for eternity. Look upon one another and say the words. Father. Smith. Warrior. Mother. Maiden. Crone. Stranger. I am his/hers, and s/he is mine, from this day, till the end of my days." Oh wrong show!;)

moomin @ Mr.Brisk: You don't make this fun because you're sad! On a more serious note, I've been pretty sick recently and your videos make me feel happy even though I don't feel good.
