Omg. I thought i was the only dweeb who shed real tears and was profoundly affected by an animated pooch. Even all the year's since then and I still cannot bring myself to watch it again. That is Powerful story telling.

I'm Gen X and am used to being overlooked, but how a list like this could ignore Gary Shepard's death on "thirtysomething" is surprising. Utterly unexpected, but totally in keeping with the series' focus on realistic storylines, it was a gut punch to all of us watching in the 90s.

TBF Tara's death was just badly contrived as a mechanism to bring out Dark Willow. Plus there's the whole curving bullet / impossible shot aspect of it that just makes little sense.

Out of all the shows.....I never watched any of them regularly. I have seen several episodes of Grey's Anatomy, and random clips of Buffy and Angel. That's 20 of the most popular shows that I have minimal to low interest in. Now if you were to make a list of my favorite dramas.....Charmed, Bones, Criminal Minds and NCIS (including 2 of the 3 spin offs)...

Dee's death in "Sometimes a great notion" in the 2003 version of Battlestar Galactica deserves to be on this list. Popular and long serving character. The death came from absolutely nowhere and was perfectly acted by all of the cast in the scene.

I'm sorry, but did one of you even watch "Buffy"? They didn't bring anyone back, except for Angel and Buffy herself. They killed Kendra, Jenny, Joyce, Anya and Tara, among others. "Angel" literally resurrected Darla and Spike and Fred was also supposed to come back, which she did in the comics.

terry crowley- the shield. in the very first episode, terry is portrayed as being part of the strike team. he is a pivotal character. at the very end of the episode. he is killed, as he was under cover internal affairs. the strike team spends the rest of the series trying to cover up this one murder. it just keeps haunting them.
