Chain is a very time-consuming thing to make but it's a good thing to learn. Hey is a tool that he might find very handy. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-liF5881xR0Q.html it makes and cuts jump rings really fast. As for making the Cuban chain you need a mounted vice to get that nice twist and to make them flat you need to file them down. You can get a flat board and screw it down to it and clamp or bolt it down to your work bench. This way you can file it without it moving around. 😁👍

Hi Randy! Thanks, gonna share this to my group! Tip, go to the hardware store's plumbing section and you will find cast flanges that will accept threaded black "water" pipe that comes in various lengths and choose one that is close to the height of your flexshaft motor hanger, bolt the flange to your bench, thread the pipe in and voila! A very sturdy stand for your motor!

I like the dowels that's something i can use. I usually end up using my bench pin as a dowel hah good idea. After the other grits, you can go from green radial (1000) to gray (2000) then just some regular silver polish like blitz with a fine soft towel and water, gives you mirror like surfaces and skips compounds and buffers all while cleaning the pieces (i use an electric tooth brush to final rinse). I stack the radials brush discs three deep usually too.
@GomeowCreations

@GomeowCreations

You can't really get around a roller mill well other than just buying wire and sheet metal. I do have a roller mill but It is one of the cheapest ones that I can get my hands on. This is the one that I have amzn.to/2O9NGeP 😀

That's the same one I use. Have made 100s of feet of band material, sheet and square wires. But never round wire, easier to buy. I've even broken the dies and still it works, takes lots of practice and effort. But i wasn't going to buy material since i have the silver already.

Great video! Are there any benefits of using oxyacytelene instead of propane burners, apart for faster heating times ?
@GomeowCreations
@GomeowCreations 6 лет назад
Thank you! With the smith's little torch you can heat smaller areas with a lot more heat so I fell like I have a lot more control over heating the piece and making the solder flow. One other thing I like to do is fuse silver jump rings closed so I don't have to use any solder and it can make metal balls in seconds. 😀👍

@GomeowCreations
@GomeowCreations 6 лет назад
Yeah soot is a common thing but for the most part if you have good ventilation this isn't really a problem. If you work next to a window but get a window fan and have it blowing out so it sucks all the soot out.

Hey!!! Do you think a beginner starting out would need all these things except for the expensive torch?
@GomeowCreations
@GomeowCreations 4 года назад
So it really depends on what you are making to start. For example if you are just doing simple rings you will only need some basic tools from this list. I do suggest getting something better than a small food torch.
@ramonlarson6806
@ramonlarson6806 4 года назад
@@GomeowCreations thanks! I already have a propane tank with a torch attachment thingy hopefully that will work. I want to start off with just some metal rings and maybe chainlinks, would love to get into silver/gold/platinum as a side hobby/business but might be a while for that lol
@GomeowCreations
@GomeowCreations 4 года назад
Oh ok that should would for now and you can do the same things with silver and gold. I suggest working with copper is you don't want to put much money into this and get some skills down. After that get some silver, it's not too expensive really, and if you are selling it you will make back your money plus some profit. Gold is not something I really work with seeing that the cost is so crazy high. I only work with gold when a customer wants it and they understand the price. I don't suggest using Platinum, you need a hydrogen torch to work with it and it's a very hard metal along with being very expensive.

Why do you choose oxy-acetylene over oxy-propane, seeing that propane is a cleaner fuel?
@GomeowCreations
@GomeowCreations 5 лет назад
At the time I got the oxy-acetylene due to it's higher temps. I could have really gone ether way and I still can always get a propane tank in the future if I want to give that a try. I just got a full set up for lost wax casting so the extra heat will come in handy.

Excellent video's dude, but can you stop calling solder sodder, there's an l in it, a sodder is a bloke who likes to put a part of his anatomy up a part of another blokes anatomy. It's pronounced SOL -DER.

Thanks and no. That is how it is pronounced with an American accent. I have got a lot of comments about this over the years and it looks like we drop the L sound in a lot of words and it's just how it is. 👍
