Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference:
0:00 - Intro
1. 0:01 {God Lied 4 Times??} I’ve recently had someone use Jeremiah 20:7, Matthew 16: 28, the lack of immediate death in Genesis 3, and Cain’s exile in Genesis 4 as “evidence” that God is a liar. How would you respond?
2. 38:46 {Animal Death Before the Fall?} If animal death occurred prior to the fall, wouldn’t that mean God called animal death/suffering “very good?” If we later see a wolf dwelling with a lamb, wouldn’t that indicate that prior to the fall, that was what we had enjoyed?
3. 45:12 {Avoid the Appearance of Evil?} You recently said, "Scripture says: avoid the appearance of evil." I was wondering, if 1 Thessalonians 5: 22 is the verse you were thinking of, isn't that verse referring to staying away from partaking in evil, not abstaining from things that look like you're partaking in evil to others?
4. 48:19 {Human Souls vs. Animal Souls} Does Ecclesiastes 3: 18-21 teach that there is no difference between the spirits of humans and those of animals? I’ve heard this claim from those who reject an immortal soul.
5. 55:07 {Has Jesus Always Had a Physical Body?} What form did Jesus exist in before He was conceived in Mary’s womb? Did He have a physical body before that?
6. 57:27 {Evangelism Required for Salvation?} Is our salvation based not only on being saved and accepting Jesus into our life and believing in Him, but also on a need to be spreading the Word of God (the Bible)?
7. 1:01:37 {Is Repentance a Change of Mind?} If repentance (metanoia) literally means “change of mind,” then why do we say repentance means changing our mind/attitude about sin? Why isn't it changing our minds from unbelief to belief?
8. 1:04:16 {Theocracy & Theonomy} Could Christ's commission to disciple the nations in Matthew 28: 19 mean the Christianization of countries and nation-states, or does it apply only to individual people?
9. 1:11:18 {Will We Judge Angels?} 1 Corinthians 6:3 states that we will judge angels. What do you think Paul means by this, and is there any other reference about us judging angels?
10. 1:14:18 {Cursing & Blessing in the OT} When prophets such as Elisha cursed or blessed people, was it God who put it in their minds to do that, or did they have a Spirit-given ability to do such things without having to consult Him?
11. 1:18:00 {Does the HS Help Us or Take Over?} Does the Holy Spirit enhance who we are, as in assisting us in Godly behavior? Or does He, at times, take over completely so that we behave, see, and feel things opposite of our ungodly flesh?
12. 1:24:20 {The Purpose of Scripture in Eternity} Matthew 5: 18 seems to say some Scripture will pass away at the end times, but Matthew 24: 35 appears to contradict this. What use might we have for Scripture in the next life where there is no temptation to sin?
13. 1:27:55 {Are We to Administer Revenge Ourselves?} Someone said it was okay to exact revenge on pedophiles, and they used Matthew 18:6 to justify it. Is that what this Scripture really means or allows for?
14. 1:32:14 {Death on the New Earth?} Why is there a reference to death and a lifespan (albeit a long one) in Isaiah 65: 20 when speaking of the New Earth?
15. 1:34:37 {Will We Remember our Lives in Heaven?} Do you think we will remember our earthly lives in Heaven, given that there is nothing negative in Heaven and this world is so full of negative things and memories?
16. 1:40:24 {The Serious Sin of Blasphemy} Why do so many Christians take the Lord’s name in vain? I know several Christians (even two pastors) who do this often. Should we tell them they’re in sin?
17. 1:43:25 {What did Jesus Mean?} What do you think Jesus meant when He said "The first shall be last and the last shall be first" in Matthew 20: 16?
18. 1:46:53 {Can our Conscience make Sex a Sin?} My question is about stronger vs. weaker consciences. Is it possible to make sex into a sin, and if so, how should the "strong" treat the "weak"?
19. 1:53:30 {The Law of Agency} How do you respond to non-trinitarians who use the "Law of Agency" to dismiss the scriptural evidence for the Trinity in regard to Jesus, etc. claiming He is not God, but simply God's agent?
20. 1:57:21 {The Book of James vs. Jacob} I was looking at the Greek in James' epistle (1:1) and his name in the Greek is Iakobos. Why do we call it "the Book of James" if the Greek more closely resembles Jacob (Iakobos)?

6)7) We’re called to spread the Good News not to earn salvation, but to honor and obey God’s request. We can use our social media, and not shy away when we have the opportunity to share our testimony. Repentance means you understand how serious sin is, Jesus died and rose for everyone’s sin, and for those who trust in Him only are saved. We honor Him with gratitude, by seeking Him to overcome any sin struggles. We confess when we fall short to stay in a right relationship with God.

Regarding the immediate death of Adam and Eve, Is it possible that they were appointed to die that day but the animals that God killed to provide clothing for them were also the sacrifice for the sin? So death did happen, but it was the animals that were sacrificed in Adam and Eve's place and as a future promise that Jesus would ultimately die in our place eliminating the penalty of death for us all. And as restored by the blood of the sacrifice, Adam and Eve could have continued to eat of the tree of Life so they were removed as a consequence of their sin.

10 years ago I was in a discussion with someone who thought GOD lied about (Genesis 2:17); when GOD said, ' But of the tree of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for "IN the day" that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.' KJV Holy Spirit spoke to me and told me to tell him, GOD said, 'In' that day, Not 'on that day' thou shalt surely die. And Holy Spirit gave me this example which I shared with him this Promise is likened to a person who is fit and healthy..join themselves in the flesh sexually, with someone with A.I.D.S. , and then get diagnosis of death. The death doesn't occur at the moment of contamination, yet, death has settled in, and now, the fit and healthy body begins to decay. Also, I mentioned to him that man is both physical and spiritual so instead of being in their (glorified bodies, aka their first estate) they fell and became under the curse of knowledge of good and evil. That knowledge began when they. hid from GOD because they felt separate, by fear, the moment when they realized they were naked.

I’ve gotten really low, come to the foot of the cross, and opened my prayer with a pity party. I’ve told God He’s mean, unreasonable, I’ve even cussed at Him. None of these things were justified or true, but they were in my heart. Like a good Father, God let me get it out, and as I opened up to Him, He gently corrected me without condemning me.

Great teaching!!! Our associate pastor, who teaches our Bible study, confirmed my appreciation for your teachings. I ask him, even though he is even younger than my son, because my husband is an atheist. Greetings and thanks from the little land of The Savior, El Salvador., where the constitution includes protection from conception to a natural death. May God bless you and your loved ones and continue using you for His honor and glory. Please pray for my family and for El Salvador.

My immediate interpretation of “deceived” in context was to read “you have deceived me” to be as Jeremia acknowledging he was in error: in delusion he underestimated God. In effect Jeremia misled himself. This is the classic case of the statement says more about the speaker, than the spoken of.

Great job today Pastor Mike! I love Fridays! Regarding question one, I think there is one more example we can see of how Jesus kept the promise that there were some there who would not die before seeing Him come in power. The apostle John was shown the coming of Jesus while he was in exile on Patmos. This was in his old age and yet it was prior to his death.

I pulled out my interlinear Hebrew bible to look up Jeremaiah 20:7. And the Hebrew there is more commonly used to say "entice" or "encourage", but entice is a closer understanding. You could also say "tempt" but it's more a motivational sense. Here is the interlinear translation: "You enticed me Yahweh, and I am being enticed. You held fast me, and you are prevailing." the word here is Pthithy (root pthiy), often used to describe someone open to instruction from the wise or the foolish. In other places in the Bible it describes a willingness to believe. So it's really a personal understanding or acceptance of a concept or a believe in something. It's use in Jeremaiah indicates that Jeremaiah believed in something that didn't turn out as expected, but when you read what God fortells, he never misleads Jeremaiah. It's only Jeremaiah's understanding and what he expected, and his disappointment when it didn't turn out like he expected, that drove that comment. sounds more like a sinful man who misunderstood what God told him. I'm sure we as Christians can all relate to that at some point. On a different note, I think an important takeaway from this is Jeremaiah did NOT judge God falsely, nor did he turn to other people and discredit God. He approached God Wholey and completely, it was his RELATIONSHIP with him that drove this, and he reached out to God as a personhood. It's very similar to the story behind Job. Some people think it's odd that God forgave Job for his accusations, but then told Job that he needed to pray for his friends because they were in jeopardy of going to hell. When you read Job, you realize that during the whole book, during all the conversations Job and his friends had, Job always talked TO GOD. His friends talked ABOUT GOD. Job saw God as someone he could talk to, his friends alienated God by talking about him, or around him. Imagine going to a party with your wife, and talking about all the things she does, but never talking directly to her. How would that work out? I'm sure she'd be pretty offended and hurt. Especially if it's something you never talked TO her about before. God accepted Job (and Jeremaiah) because they spoke TO him, not ABOUT him. it was personal, and this is what God seeks, a personal relationship with his people. Even if your conversation with him is to gripe. He will reply, and he will witness to you, and he will comfort you (unless you really need a reality check, I've been there before, I can tell you). Just like he says in Jeremaiah 29 "When you cry out TO me with all your heart, I WILL be there for you." He doesn't say "when you cry out ABOUT me." It's the typical nature of people to take a single verse and pull it out of context, and just like every other verse mentioned here, if you READ the whole of scripture, and seek to understand what is going on therein, the contradictions fall away because there are none.

Back in the day people like child molesters would usually be lynched by the victim's family and friends. The "police" at the time would be usually a single official with his assistants who were on the scene just to make sure that the charge was true and to make sure the sentence was carried out. Vigilante is more of a modern concept from modern totalitarian empires who have taken justice entirely into the hands of government rather than leaving it to local elders. There was a transition period in the USA which is usually deeply misrepresented in US media, where officials, while giving the sentencing instructions to the police, were powerless to prevent members of the general public from executing the criminal the moment they left the courthouse. That didn't stop until the police felt bold enough to murder members of the public rather than allow them to carry out an execution.

I personally believe that we would remember our earthly lives, BUT we will also have the full knowledge of God's truths and we will understand that all of God's actions are good & just. With the proper, God given, understanding we will not be concerned for other's consequences or situations like we would have when we were on the earth. So our own changed character in heaven will prevail in our feelings and thoughts about all things, And it will all be okay. No stresses because God has dealt with all things and you are left greatful and joyous of His use of His grace when He dealt with you.

In regards to question 15; I know many have suffered in life and many wish to never experience or even remember those things and the idea of a memory wipe in the new earth is pleasant, but we will also forget many of the good things too. Having been hurt myself many times and finding myself to be a very spiteful and angry person at a young age I had turned my anger against God. But what I learned through it is that God is always there. I learned to be thankful for everything, good and bad, because it was something that brought me closer to God and helped to reinforce myself. Through it all I gained peace, acceptance, and most of all the grace of God. Whatever the individual is going through, give it up to God. Give all your pain and sorrow to Him here and now, it is much easier said than done, it took me years. There is nothing better than the catharsis and peace that we find in God when we give up onto Him all that burdens us. It may not be perfect, but a little peace of the Kingdom can be experienced in our lives now.

(sorry for saying “you da bomb”- that was weird 😆 I was trying to find a way to thank you for your ministry without using too many words/characters!) I so wish I could chat with you more! Within my question, I wish I would have mentioned Genesis 1:30 too! That seems to point to animals eating only plants! I don’t think God’s good character can allow for animal death and suffering prior to the fall. It’s hard to imagine an animal in prolonged pain after being harmed by a predator or due to a disease that takes their life. And then I also wonder- if animals were on the prowl for food prior to the fall, would they have just not been drawn toward attacking humans? Random thought vomit! 😆

For part of #1, Death is separation, whether physical or spiritual. Those who are lost are separated from God. If you die without Jesus, separated from God, you remain separated in the second death, Hell. So yes, God said to Adam the day you eat of the tree you will die...be separated. They did die that day. They became lost, separated, in need of a Saviour! Thanks Bro Mike!✌️

When we were doing a deep dive into genesis my pastor said that we brought death into the world ( I’m pretty sure for the animal’s as well) because the Bible said we sinned against the birds and the beasts. That definitely means that predators used to lay down with what now is their pray. It’s not a salvation issue to be wrong about this or to not know. The reason I trust Pastor Mike is that he is so diligent and careful not to lead his flock astray. He’s a good shepherd cause he’s not afraid to say “I don’t know”.

Re QUESTION 1 & Genesis 2:17 The clause typically translated along the lines of "You shall surely die" is מ֥וֹת תָּמֽוּת (mō·wṯ tā·mūṯ). This clause consists of both the infinitive absolute and imperfect forms of the verb מוּת (muth), meaning 'to die'. We don't have an equivalent construct in English. In Hebrew, the infinitive absolute speaks to the certainty of what is said. Immediacy is not in view. It is an idiomatic expression that literally says "surely to die you will die" (not simply "dying you will die" as some render it). The sense is "you doom yourself to death". Hence, one might express the warning as "on the day you eat of it you doom yourself to death". Whilst some try to inject day:age notions into the text, per 2 Peter 3:8, that is a thoroughly illegitimate treatment of Genesis 2:17, relying as it does on an eisegetical distortion of both passages. For starters, the context of 2 Peter 3:8 concerns only the certainty of the coming 'Day of the Lord'. Moreover, 2 Peter 3:8 says only that: _"with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day"._ It *does not* say _one day_ *is* _a thousand years_ or that _a thousand years_ *is* _one day"_ with the Lord. Accordingly, 2 Peter 3:8 provides no warrant for day:age speculations regarding Genesis 1-3. All that 2 Peter 3:8 tells us is that the Lord’s eternality is such that days and millennia are alike.

The preceding words are "in the day that you eat of it". I can see your reading of it that in [that] day the sentence takes effect. But I can't see the point of God pronouncing ahead of time the date on which the sentence will take effect, especially since that is a given. The point of Adam's death goes beyond punishment. It is essential to restore the creation to its pristine condition. Hence it should be immediate, or at least on the same day. Hence the warning that he will die on that day. Manifestly Adam did not die on that day. So we must read the period between his sin and his eventual death as a period of grace. Grace made possible by Jesus taking the penalty for Adam's sin. And intimating God’s salvific plan to restore creation to its pristine condition through Jesus.

The 7 days of creation is literal and also represents the 7000 years of creation. A day with the Lord is a thousand years. God declared the end from the beginning. Adam lives to be 930 years old and did in fact die that day. Jesus Christ will return on the Day of the Lord where he will rule the Earth for the final thousand years of creation. Keep the Sabbath holy because it's foreshadowing the day or thousand years that Jesus Christ will reign in the millennial Kingdom, the 7th day.

Good answer on those 4 examples of God lying. Very good answer on some of the disciples seeing the Kingdom being a reference to the transfiguration. Totally agree. Here's a little further thought on that, I think we see in Moses and Elijah the prefiguring of the two types of saints delivered at the Second Coming (Kingdom), those who are caught up without experiencing death--like Elijah---and those who are resurrected--I believe, like Moses, whose body was taken by Michael, the Archangel, --another name for Christ-the angel of the Lord--whose voice raises the dead at the Second Coming. This seems also indicated by Peter suggesting making shelters for both Elijah and Moses--suggesting they are both appearing bodily on the Holy Mount. On another point: Yes, you can generally take Isaiah literally and all Scripture. "They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain...." "The lion will eat grass..." "The worm shall not die....". In the new earth there is no more death, no more pain. The times of the end are the "times of the restoration of all things". Acts 3:21. This text is why we should believe that things will be put back right the way they were before. Think of it, not even the plant creation was hurtful in God's original creation. Only after the fall, did it bring forth thorns and briars. But the animals were hurtful? Unimaginable. Those "times of restoration" involve a process, but ultimately all things will be reconciled in Christ (thus connecting to the truth of Conditional Immortality--there will be no cursing and blaspheming arising from an eternally tormenting hell, either.) The whole point of God saying it wasn't good yet, was because He wasn't done yet, but was about to complete the creation with womankind, thus making God's finished creation, "very good", right? From what you've said, it seems to me that in your earlier Christian experience, you may have a had a simpler but in some ways greater faith. No doubt, your simplicity in taking God's word as it literally reads is largely how you got to where you are at. Don't lose that, Pastor Mike. Also, don't settle for whereunto you have attained. May God bless and strengthen you and your ministry. "The Word of God is pure, tried seven times, He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him"

Good morning Mike, thank you for your ministry. You have been a blessing to me and I hope others are equally enlightened and blessed. In today’s message there was a question about death before fall (re:2). In hope of helping others, I wanted to point you and others to Gen 1:28-29; where God clearly indicates both man and animals were given seed bearing plants and fruit for food. Which aligns with the scriptures about millennium in Isaiah where the wolf lays down with the lamb…meaning they return to being herbivores verse carnivores as they are today. The other piece I wanted to highlight is Gen 3 “the Fall” where we see how sin changes everything - meaning that man, the animals and the earth were all cursed and changed from the original design or intent. Then in verse 3:21 God makes them clothing out of skins which I believe is the first physical death in the world. More specifically and more importantly I believe this implies that before the fall there was no death. Which gets us back to the larger message / meaning is that the first Adam’s sin brought death into the world and Jesus - the second Adam brought us life through his death.

I think the argument goes something like we rely more heavily on the Masoretic text since it shows great consistency with the Dead Sea scrolls, which predate the Septuagint, and we know that the Hebrews in the time of Christ considered some sections of the Septuagint poorly translated. Hence we depend slightly more on the Hebrew manuscript tradition which appears to have been better preserved.

Regarding 1 Kings and 2 Chronicles, it sounds like God was essentially asking for a volunteer to help enact justice on Ahab and a "spirit (ESV)" volunteered and suggested lying, to which God gave permission. So God punished Ahab by allowing this spirit (perhaps even a demon) to lie to accomplish justice. God himself did not lie and I wouldn't consider allowing somebody to lie the same as telling the lie. And if you notice, God didn't say ok go and lie, but rather he said go and entice him and you will succeed. I didn't have time to read the whole book of Job to see what the other reference was, but for 2 Thessalonians, back up just a verse or two and continue on past the verse cited. " 9The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, 10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, 12 in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness." He's talking about people who are dying because they "refused to love the truth and so be saved." We see a similar thing in Pharaoh where he is already evil and God hardens his heart. In this case God sends the delusion why? So that the people who wouldn't believe the truth anyway and took pleasure in their unrighteousness would be condemned. I'd have to do a deeper study or have more background knowledge of the passage, but God sending a false judgement or belief about reality isn't lying the same as if he told them something untrue- they hated truth and so he gave them the delusion that they wanted anyway. To me, it's similar to passages where it says God gave them over to their own desires. It's not like God is telling them something false or that they are searching for the truth and seeking God but God lies to them so they'll be condemned. I think we'd agree that would seem unjust but that doesn't seem to be what's happening here. I'm just a regular guy that reads the Bible but I'm not even great at doing that consistently so I'd love to hear what others think. With God's help, much of it through Pastor Mike , I'm trying to think about everything biblically so I appreciate any help!

1 Thessalonians 5:22 must be read and understood in the context of 1 Thessalonians 5:20-21: _do not despise prophesying, but test everything; hold fast what is good, abstain from every form of evil._ (RSV) As can be seen from the context, 1 Thessalonians 5:22 concerns how one should respond to dodgy prophesies. It does not stand in isolation to be used as a proof-text for coercing people into doing or not doing things because of someone else's objections to things they then characterise as evil.

Hebrews 6:18 so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.

1 day is as 1000 years to God. Keep that in mind so when he said "the day you eat of the fruit you'll surely die" he wasn't lying. They did not live to be a thousand years of age.

I think, for Jeremiah he felt decieve by GOD specially that his friends kindah like hated him for it. And just like us when we can not fully understand the goodness of GOD and then something wrong happened. Its like our first expression is like GOD failed us, tought He never fails, I felt deceive. But again it was just his feelings towards GOD. The raw emotions of man shown in the bible. Its Beautiful. Makes it even more real than it is already true. ❤

In Jeremiah 20:7 the word the Rabbis 300 years before Christ died on the cross translated in the Greek Septuagint was the word ηπάτησάς which definitely means “enticed”. So the word was never thought by the Jews to mean deceived in Hebrew. The thing about Hebrew is there are many words with 5+ meanings and you need the context of whole passages to understand and translate correctly. The Greek Septuagint is a wonderful resource for comparing the possible meanings of Greek words with the possible meanings of Hebrew words and seeing which they have in common. Long story short, Jeremiah did not call GOD a deceiver and that’s definitely a bad translation in the ESV/KJV. GOD Bless! ❤️

Knowing Judaistic concept of five-fold soul of a human helps alot to make sense of Eccl. 3:19. Two ingridients out of five - are the same for any living creature and the three are unique to humans and are responsible for connecting us with God.

@@Mavors1099 I read The Holy Bible. God is absolute perfection and is so Holy, sin is not able to be in his presence. God spoke the words I wrote in my message. He does not nor ever will lie.

It also says, "Standing here...", and that would seem to imply that those who don't die before seeing the Kingdom are standing there.

What is wrong with people? Since when is any person's claim considered to be the truth? "....you have deceived me," is the feeling or belief of the speaker, Jeremiah, at that moment. Does that mean that he WAS deceived? No. It means, that Jeremiah, is expressing a sorrow, a frustration, a disappointment. Have we ever experienced similar emotions as a result of an event? Think.

In reference to question 4 today. I have learned the Hebrewism “under the sun” means “without God”. As such, If you replace without God’ in place of ‘under the sun’ when you read the various passages of the book’s overall meaning is more clear. More specifically Salomon is telling us in this book that life is meaningless or has no purpose without God in it.

This is only my personal belief, but I believe that we will remember this life as a dream, and that we all knew each other before this life, and that is why we know who we know in this life.

Thanks for sharing your position on the subject . I really appreciate that you are open to dialogue. I’d like to engage with you a little bit . I’m hoping that you will allow me to challenge you with the following precepts declared in the Bible . Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.” Jeremiah 17:9-10 NKJV “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall [a]direct your paths.”

There must be a special place in heaven for those with the patience of Mike Winger. Do not know how he does it. Some of the questions causes me to roll my eyes. Other questions seem reasonable. But it makes me realize that many Christians do not read and study scripture. And they do not think very deeply. Can we read the entire bible and decern a few major themes that are repeated over and over. Yes. What is the goal or purpose of scripture? God is communicating with us about Himself and His humans, telling us what He wants us to know. Scripture does not answer every question humans have. Obviously if God wanted humans to know everything, He would have put all answers to every question in scripture. But God did not. KISS: Keep it simple stupid. What does God want ME to know, to believe and practice? Read scripture with only that in mind.

1:42:27 - It's important for us to push back against the normalization of our Lord's name being used as a curse within the community of the believers. I hope that push-back doesn't come across heavy handed. I've had to confront friends and pastors on this issue, unfortunately. Jesus Christ is the name of my Savior and Lord, and while He became a curse for me, I don't think it's okay for other believers (or even non-believers) to use His name that way, either for His sake or for mine, who loves Him.
