I've personally come to dislike all habitats where animals need to perform for humans or need to interact with them. This kind of includes walkthrough habitats. I like to see them just existing and let them be at peace as much as is possible in captivity.
Sea Lions are usually the most entertaining animals to see in zoos. They’re some of the only animals are as curious about you as you are of them. In a lot of ways they seem similar to dogs, so I’m sure the training is good for their mental health, but I also think that dogs don’t get enough respect from people so presenting sea lions as trainable water puppies probably isn’t the best. Keeping the shows as educational as possible is the right idea for sure.
Sea Lions in the states end up with a lot of grotto style exhibits some with glass some without, some are circles with an island in the center some more natural than others, there are some themed with towns, and Henry Doorly goes above and beyond with the theme and naturalism. There are 4 sea lion tunnels in the states: St. Louis, Houston, Columbus, and Pittsburg
For some reason as soon as music is involved I’m a bit "hm" about the shows! It gives off show more then education… 2 zoos that I think do a particularly good job joining education and tricks/feedings together are Hannover and Duisburg! The speakers talk loads about the animals and their wild counterparts and some biological facts as well as how the animals are trained! There are also zoos (Vienna comes to mind) that have one of their tour guides do the narration and information so the keeper can focus on their animals!
I remember Wildlands' show used to be more classic Dolfinarium style at the very start. Luckily they moved away from that. All the 'tricks' they do now are either in surface of education or med check ups. Similair to Monde Sauvage it seems. Works very well imo. I don't think you can catch it at the Nortica theater anymore, as I have heard some rumbling that with the redesing of the area, the show might be gone. They'll probably keep it in some way, as right now, with construction going on, the presentation is being held at the jetty. I'm excited to see how the Nortica update will turn out though!
Longleat Safari Park in the UK has a similar setup to Beekse Bergen, where the sea lions have access to a large lake with a boat tour. Until very recently, they shared the space with a pair of common hippos - you don’t see that mix very often!
@@justGoron A group of hippos basically lived wild in the lake from the '70s, but the last one died last month, unfortunately. Thanks to rewilding projects in the region, the lake is also home to Eurasian beavers who moved there on their own, so beavers and hippos lived there together for the first time in 100,000 years, plus sea lions added into the mix. There was a lot going on in that lake!
Wuppertals habitat is interesting due to its sightlines. Its a Habenbeck Panorama from the 1910s that includes sealions, polar bears and the ibex habitat on top. Its supposed to look like one enclosure when you stand in front of the sea lions looking up, like you do in the beginning of your footage

I would say it depends on the motive, if it just is to prove that these smart animals do tricks, it would be no. but if it is to provide educational value, an fun experience of rboh guests and animals i would say it's great, sea lions and seals are clever animals and need stimulation, and an educational show is a great way - Oh wow Stellars sea lions are MASSIVE
My Best Sea Lion Habitats is from Artis (Amsterdam Zoo), Sealife Blankenberge, Blijdorp (Rotterdam Zoo), Cologne Zoo, Zoo Dortmund (new enclosure plans), Zoo-Duisburg, Zoo Krefeld, Allwetterzoo Münster, Zoo Osnabrück (new), Ouwehands Dierenpark (+debating shows), Wildlands, Wuppertal, Zoom Erlebniswelt, Dolfinarium, Monde Sauvage and Pairi Daiza (i & ii). 🌊🦭🤩😉👍✨ I like for Pinnipeds🦭 (Seals and Sea Lions), to get so Huge Enclosure with Sandy Beaches or Rocky Coves for living lands and so verry water like ocean for swimming, of course as Underwater Viewing for ZOO-Guests to see them swimming underwater. 🌊🦭🤩😉👍✨
