Although I've gone through some pretty horrific physical and emotional trauma throughout my life, I've never once succumbed to alcohol or illicit drugs. However it may come as no surprise to learn that I've a well-established addiction to volcanically strong coffee. 😉 Thanks for sharing. 👍

Glad to hear...but how did you prepare for sobriety? Would you personally spend more time to go to the beach than you have to get sober? Watch episode 103 "Preparing for sobriety" and get back to me: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3QUxIW8X5bA.html All of the emptiness, sadness, depression and ROOT CAUSES for feelings of inadequacy still remain. We have to BE HONEST with ourselves, cut the bullshit, and cut out ALL toxic behaviors. What's the point of getting sober if you still hang with alcoholics, or go through the same motions or still hang at the same places. ACTIVITY REPLACEMENT THERAPY!

@@GettingSoberAgain Sorry I'm just now seeing this. Sad to say I slipped a lot since then..but calmed down completely where its not ruling my life. Its still a battle but I'm down to 2 or 3 beers every other night. For me I just got burned out on drinking and still am. So when I do have a beer or 2 after that I start to feel disgusted and little by little its disappearing from my life. Compared to a year ago and the years prior I feel I accomplished alot. Its not perfect but I still see it as a battle and won't let up. Building my relationship with God and staying active has helped alot. Reminding myself to stay focus on building a better me so I can be a better person for the my love ones.

I was a heavy wine drinker for the past 18+ years. For the past year or more, I was drinking 2+ bottles a night. This past February, on my 50th birthday, I stopped drinking. No alcohol for more than a month so far. My swollen belly and concerns about my liver made me stop.Thoughts of dying of cirrhosis were really starting to get to me at night. Anyway, my swollen belly is going down, and I feel a lot better. I do miss drinking, though, because being fully aware all the time is hard. But dying with a failing liver seems like a far worse fate (although a failing liver could still be in my near future, considering how much I abused it).

I stopped for 30 days in Jan 2020. I felt so good, I then challenged myself to 100 days, and felt even better. So, here I am 1-1/2 years later, and I still haven’t had a drink. That small break made me realize what a waste of time, money, and health drinking is. I am healthier, richer, and I have a lot more time to be productive. Try it in small steps or challenges, and not only will you love yourself more, but everyone close to you will love you more. If you’re successful, you will realize how much better life is without the booze. It’s like being set free. I wish the best luck to all of you that want a temporary or permanent break from alcohol.

@@lettoturner5079 it's all in the mind. Will power and sheer determination to make the change. You CAN do it! Don't count the days, make the days count. Be aware of HALT. Hungry, angry, lonely and tired. Eat well, talk to friends, get sleep and avoid situations that will trigger anger, it's easy to go back to substances if we are angry and looking for that thing to change our mental state. Stay present, go through the pain because on the other side of the pain is pleasure. Get up early, fill your days with positive actions. Tire yourself out by the evening and drink camomile tea. Melatonin can help with the sleep. I sweated and couldn't sleep for a week. I drank 3x bottles of 700ml spirits every 2 days for a long time. If I can do it. So can you! Best of luck

Hi WIN 1558, I'm 66 and relate to early trauma/fear that has unfortunately governed much of my life. I grew up with two Jekyll and Hyde alcoholics, but am not one. My personality is easygoing, respectful, and loving of others. I think that is a partial curse to getting sober. Have tons of AA under my belt. I keep pushing and my thoughts and actions are geared to say enough...but that also means making a decision. All the best to you and your long-term sobriety.

That's a lot of alcohol for a woman to consume in a day. Set yourself goals that are short then build off of them. 1 week sober. Then 2, then a month.. It's hard as hell but if you want it bad enough you can do it. Most important thing is have something to replace the time that you used for drinking. Have something that you like to do that's challenging.

Loved Keto, but wine drinking ruined my weight loss! I kept eating keto, but drank alot of wine. Like 2 bottles a day!!! The sugar in the wine destroyed my 40 lb weight loss. I'm 57 started drinking last year. Progressively slowly got worse drinking more and more. I never drank until then. Am I an alcoholic? Even before drinking my coffee I have some wine! I crave it. Plus, I'm getting divorced after being with my husband since the age of 25. He's 13 years older than I. I come from a very bad childhood. Sexual abuse, abandonment, physical beatings, being locked in dark closets and my room since born. Starvation! You name it! It seems like I changed.in to a completely different person. I have anxiety too. Isolate myself. I know I need to stop drinking. I just drink wine. Nothing harder.

don't be so hard on yourself. if you didn't drink from January until July, and this, let's say, freelapse day in July was just that, a single freelapse day, you're still doing great. hell, if you had a single weekend freelapse per month you would still be doing great. keep going. see alcohol for what it is and, most importantly, for what it shouldn't be: a crutch. and if you happen to feel like having a few beers at a certain weekend withing months of sobriety, go ahead. go and come back. we are all going to die anyway, so choose to live the good life. your body is not a temple, is an amusement park. enjoy the ride.

You'll get this. There are likely many people who had more extreme cases and they pulled through. That means you definitely can. Like he said, a good hobby to replace your original behavior will make it much easier. Everybody has their talents, even if it's as simple as cooking and or doing craft shows or bake sales. We are all awesome, but the booze obfuscates who we really are. Find who you are while you still can.

I am doing fantastic this past year-and-a-half since I quit drinking. My life has basically gone in a positive direction ever since I put the drink down. I have a large amount of energy for work I have a positive attitude towards my job I take care of my lady and my little doggy with pleasure and he's ever since I'm not craving or just being a drunk idiot. My anxiety level dropped to a super low level which is very exciting because I have PTSD when I got stabbed nine times and 2007 and that's kind of the reason I started drinking so hard but it's to kill my anxiety. But ever since I quit I don't have anxiety like that anymore

Matt, try switching the alcohol for cannabis and use that time to either watch comedy, something inspirational, do something creative or do some self-reflecting, particularly on negative experiences from your past. I gave the alcohol up because it did me little good, but I have a little bit of cannabis an hour before bed each night because it does me a kind of good that is unique. I have been sober for 11 years and I lost many of my old friends and new ones don’t really feel comfortable if they drink and we are out. Then you have the ones that instead of supporting and admiring the work you have put in, are always pushing for you to have “ JUST ONE” Throw in a vegan diet and you can pretty well be misunderstood on all sides. People act like it is a personal attack on their way of life. Well done to all the strong people here wishing to find a more meaningful life! Blessings all!!

This is so frustrating. Some, if not most people definitely like it’s a personal attack on them when I don’t drink. It’s like I’m indirectly saying “your life choices are terrible, look how holy and right I am!” What most people fail to understand is that my choice not to drink has NOTHING to do with them. It is MY personal decision which only affects me. It seems to bring out other people’s insecurities about their choices. Not that I care. I really don’t but they fail to comprehend that

When COVID 19 came into our world I was off work one morning and walking home from the liquor store at about 7 am, I passed a line of people and I asked a girl what the line was for and she said it was a food line. I was standing there with an 18 pack at 7 am and she was standing in a line for food at 7 am. April 28th 2021 is just a few more days away and that will be a year of no alcohol for me! I sleep. I can focus. I find endless ways to be more efficient about anything. My work peers are having a hard time keeping up!. Thank you for your video.

I always said "I'm not addicted" until the day I created a spreadsheet to keep track of my daily routine and it turns out that I was drinking pretty much 6 out of 7 days a week. Last week I decided to stop and what really helped me was the fact that the following day I was in the supermarket and I said "let's buy a couple of beers". @@GettingSoberAgain Hey brother, yes I am great. Update: I quit drinking and smoking cigarettes and taking adderall and smoking weed all by the end of February 2021. I have had only small issue with tiredness once I finally put it all down. It took about six weeks for me to mentally prepare myself to put it all down and the first two weeks I was super sleepy. I believe it has been by the grace of God that I don't have any cravings for nor have I had any for alcohol since late February when I quit. With that said I keep my guard up against alcohol and I plan to never drink again. I don't hide the fact that I quit and plan to never drink again. Today (Tues, 1/11) is my first week of sobriety in several years. How great I feel is beyond words. I already look younger - face is brighter, less swollen, eyes clear and not puffy. No more chronic stomach issues. Memory is getting better. I’ve cleaned my whole apartment, had family over for dinner, kept an organized schedule, etc... I am 28 and developed alcoholism at age 19-20. I don’t remember the last time I was sober this long. But now I feel so isolated because I’ve pushed all my non-drunk friends away over the years, so the only good people I know are my family, from whom I’ve hidden the condition fairly well (they think it’s under control and has been for a while). I need to find an online support group or something to help me work through all the reflection/self-forgiveness/apologies to others etc..

Thanks for sharing this video. I know I’m a couple years late but I’m on this very journey myself. Today marks 6 days sober from alcohol! It’s not a significant time under the belt but it sure beats the alternative. I’m already beginning to experience several changes you’ve listed since I quit last week and know it’ll continue to get better going forward. I did admit myself into an outpatient women’s only rehab facility to help provide me with necessary tools in remaining sober, getting to recognize triggers, all while working on my mental health. I’m eating much better and healthier. I have 2 children who need me and loving parents who would be mortified if they lost their daughter because I’ve noticed some bad health changes from alcohol consumption. The only way to heal is to put down the drink which I did. If I continue on I’ll be dead…I’m only 36! For all going through a new journey to sobriety, we’ve got this! And those who have a lot of sobriety time, I look up to you and cannot wait to reach that point myself!

I’ve been drinking and smoking weed for over 40 years. Surprised I’m still alive. Always booze and a little sneak a toke pipe. I’ve been three weeks sober and it feels great. Looking back on the time/opportunities wasted, ugh. Also been reading “the power of now” by Eckart Tolle.... it’s helping too. Came across this video and it only solidified my goal and journey of sobriety. Thank you!

That's great to hear! It's a journey, be patient. A lot of people slip up and go really hard on themselves and start binging again. I'll check out the book recommendation thank you :)

Last June I quit smoking after 40 years and two packs a day. I've quit a lot of things in my life, but alcohol was by far the most difficult. I'm at 21 days right now and can't believe how good I feel. I also read a book by Allen Carr called "The Easy Way To Control Alcohol" It really helped. I also read his book called "The Easy Way To Stop Smoking"

@@CindyP10 Hi, sorry I missed your reply. It's been a year since I quit drinking now and I don't miss it at all. And 2 years since I quit smoking. I've been working on quitting sodas, it's been a hard road but I finally did it a week and a half ago. Hope you are doing well Cindy P

@@rangeorge85051 Allen Carr was a tremendous help for me. He helps you to understand the why behind it all. Once you understand the "WHY" it's fairly easy to stop.

Great video! I’m just starting my sober journey (day two today). Many of my goals are listed in your video here. 1. Normalize blood pressure 2. Lose 30lbs (I practice fasting and eat fairly healthy the majority of the time but cannot lose the beer weight! Only way is to cut out the extra calories which for me is about 750/day from IPAs lol) 3. Better sleep. I sleep like shit and have been for years. Now I know why. 4. More energy. Sick of feeling fatigued ALL THE TIME. Can’t even remember what “normal” energy feels like. I’m literally always tired. 5. Reverse “bedroom issues” and gain my libido back. Ugh. Nothing worse. 6. Regain sense of calm emotional control. I’ve def noticed I’ve been less stable lately. Quicker to anger, to doom and despair etc. this ain’t me. And if there’s more, those are just bonuses. Cutting out a several-year habit of about 6 beers/night, just about every damn night. I think it really took hold during lockdowns and hasn’t let up since. Now at 48 I’m really seeing the detriments to my health and well-being and am PUMPED to get things back on track! Thanks again for the encouragement!

May you be blessed along your way my friend! Not too much room for hope, and maybe on this journey. Remember to use definitive statements. You WILL walk this journey. Make sure that you properly prepare yourself while you practice sobriety and be patient with yourself if you fall short. Persevere!

Wowza! You're reaping the benefits!!! Just be advised and read up on the "pink cloud/honeymoon phase" of getting sober. It's a plateau affect where the excitement of sobriety wears off and people tend to relapse. I experienced some extreme lows right around month 3-4. But you can work through anything you're prepared for! Keep up the good work and I hope you have more great results :)

I just got through the first day. I drink while cooking so that was the worst part of it. I've been drinking for 33 years. I can feel when I need a break. Too much junk food and alcohol makes you feel like the walking dead. I started feeling nauseous and a little out of it a couple days ago so I figured I'd try 30 days starting today. Veggies and fruits mostly and no alcohol. I feel much better today than I have in the past 3 days. Good luck to everyone here trying to do better. It's a tough ride but you can do it!
