Also a thing most people don't know: Keira Knightly played Amidala's double. Apparently when they were both younger, Kiera's and Natalie's parents often mistook them for each other when they were on set.
Still think Anakin should’ve been seen using the force to either fix his pod or crash another to show a leaning toward his underlying power or his use of it in anger since both fear of loss and anger lead to the dark side. Am I alone in this?
The only cameo in this I remember was Kira Knightley as Amidala's bodyguard. I liked the bodyguard from Insidious in AotC better though. Rose Byrne I think.
If you mean Star Wars then maybe Jar jar was the first digital character. In the grand scheme of movies though, that honor goes to Casper the friendly ghost.
Like the good nerds that we were we stayed overnight at the theater for this. And did you know some books came out before the movie with spoilers? Like kids books. Wellll my friend bought the book, read the book and after a few beers (morning beers are the best) he let out what happened to Maul. After that it took a long time for us to want to invite him along to movies.
I read the novel before watching the movie. It was a birthday present. There was a fair bit missing from the movie and I hated reading the parts where jar jar spoke.
CGI means Computer Generated Images. 14:28 The Phantom Menace has more PRACTICAL (meaning models and paintings) special effects than was in the entire original trilogy.
@@Benjahmin1138 No kidding. We've known what CGI means for decades, I presume, myself especially for the part of my life where I did architectural flyby renderings digitally. You heard the comment at 14:28, but I'm referring to the comment at 14:41 where he says The Phantom Menace uses more cgi than the original trilogy combined. Rather a ridiculous/obvious statement, and I didn't need to use all caps to point it out.
I did notice the slave bikini outfit on first watching. I also noticed that the woman wearing it did not have her legs exposed. She had some kind of loose-fitting leggings. Is it correct to refer to "obviously" female aliens as "woman?" I ask because 'female alien' seems so impersonal. And clinical. And ignores the fact that "she" is VERY female, in the human sense, from the neck down. Just curious.
This should've been titled- *"twenty things absolutely no one missed in Ep1 because they've been pointed out in dozens of WhatCulture videos before"* 🙄 🍄
Let's see, things I missed in Star Wars episode 1? Well there's writing, direction, story, logic, engaging characters, acting talent, action, tension, any sense of urgency at all, pacing.... That's nine..... I'm sure there was others, but I lost interest so early on that I probably missed them. I notice you have a similar video for episode 2. For the record I missed all the same things in that one too, and you can add to the list a sense of hope that these movies MIGHT somehow improve. OH, I also missed the price of admission as well, because I REALLY could have spent that money better elsewhere. So there's... Ten for the first film, and eleven for the second, so that's 21 things I missed, although ten of them repeated, but it's two movies so that counts. I only missed ONE thing for the third film. The third film. Learned my lesson with the first two.
Honestly the prequels aren't even that bad I went to the 3 times each while in theaters and have watched them close to 300 times since they came out on dvd
my personal favourite: The naboo celebration music played at the end (with the singing kids choir) is the exact same music as the Emperor's theme, just sped up and made "happier"
Imagine a sitcom where a jedi and a sith really should be fighting each other, but they've been friends so long it just doesn't make sense to fight. That's when rhe comedy starts.
Jesus… “327” refer to a Chevrolet 327 cubic inch, small block V8 engine. The same engine Lucas had in his high school hot rod. It’s still a very common engine for vintage custom Chevys.
I love how they show the ET's in the Senate seats, but completely ignore the Oogie Boogies (from Nightmare Before Xmas) that are even more closely in frame xD
A long, long time ago In a galaxy far away Naboo was under an attack And I thought me and Qui-Gon Jinn Could talk the federation in To maybe cutting them a little slack But their response, it didn't thrill us They locked the doors and tried to kill us We escaped from that gas Then met Jar Jar and Boss Nass We took a bongo from the scene And we went to Theed to see the Queen We all wound up on Tatooine That's where... we found... this boy Oh My my this here Anakin guy May be Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry He left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi, Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi" Did you know this junkyard slave Isn't even old enough to shave But he can use the Force, they say Ahh, do you see him hitting on the queen Though he's just nine and she's fourteen Yeah, he's probably gonna marry her someday Well, I know he built C-3PO And I've heard how fast his pod can go And we were broke, it's true So we made a wager or two He was a pre-pubescent flyin' ace And the minute Jabba started off that race Well, I knew who would win first place Oh yes, it was our boy We started singin' My my this here Anakin guy May be Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi, soon I'm gonna be a Jedi" Now we finally got to Coruscant The Jedi Council we knew would want To see how good the boy could be So we took him there and we told the tale How his midichlorians were off the scale And he might fulfill that prophecy Oh, the Council was impressed, of course Could he bring balance, to the Force? They interviewed the kid All training they forbid Because Yoda sensed in him much fear And Qui-Gon said "Now listen here" Just stick it in your pointy ear I still will teach this boy" He was singin' My my this here Anakin guy May be Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi, Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi" We caught a ride back to Naboo 'Cause Queen Amidala wanted to I frankly would've liked to stay We all fought in that epic war And it wasn't long at all before Little Hotshot flew his plane and saved the day And in the end some Gunguns died Some ships blew up and some pilots fried A lot of folks were croakin' The battle droids were broken And the Jedi I admire most Met up with Darth Maul and now he's toast Well, I'm still here and he's a ghost I guess I'll train this boy And I was singin' My my this here Anakin guy May be Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi, Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi" We were singin' My my this here Anakin guy May be Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
Darth Maul? Senator Palpatine? Anakin Skywalker? Darth Jar Jar? Boris Johnson? Basically the Phantom Menace can be whatever one wants it to be. But I think George Lucas said it was officially Darth Sidious IIRC.
You know, it's nice that you note certain things, but actually hearing what you're talking about would go a LOOONG way! But, I guess you couldn't be bothered seeing as you didn't show your name on screen, only (lightly, and barely) mentioned it.
Erroneously poor title choice. At BEST this is simply 20 "easter eggs" or "fun facts about the film. Also...how about SHOW examples of McGregor's wig or Padme's voice instead of blabbing about it while displaying random footage... Thumbs DOWN
"Somehow missed" implies these are things we were supposed to be looking for. That's frankly a little insulting seemingly making us feel dumb for not knowing this junk already. Instead you should go for a title like "20 things you didn't know" Makes you look like less of a big ego when you don't try to make yourself seem better than us simple viewers because you noticed or more likely spent an unreasonable amount of time researching all these barely interesting facts.
@@JamieJoseph88 Whether you think those things are missing from Episode 7, has no bearing whatsoever on whether or not I think they're missing from Episode 1.
To catch these one would have to watch the movie more than once, likely dozens of times. I saw it once, was god awful, definitely didn’t see it twice, let alone several times
What an awful list. This is trivia not "things you might have missed" Oh excuse me for not immediately recognising salt pouring over curtains on scaffolding. How silly of me
I thought first film was awesome. I didnt mind Jar Jar. ONLY thing wrong was the title. Phantom Menace. Should have just kept original teaser title "The Beginning"
20) Yes, also each of the prequel films have more practical effects on their own than the entire original trilogy combined 19) Yes 18) Good choice 17) Lucas didn't go "bluescreen crazy". As I mentioned before, all three prequels have lots practical effects and that includes sets and location shooting. 16) Yes 15) Yes 14) Yes 13) Yes 12) Yes 11) Yes 10) Yes 9) A lot of his lines were cut because having him speak too much makes him feel like more of a person but the intention was to make him more like a wild animal hungry for Jedi blood. 8) Adds into the wild animal attribute. 7) Jar Jar wasn't just a fun character, he was the next step in film evolution. 6) Yes, people need to know how often practical effects were actually used in these films. 5) Yes 4) Yes 3) I don't see the issue with the "killing younglings" line, also complaining about bluescreen while showing footage that uses a combination of a practical set and bluescreen is pretty funny. The wig looks fine enough. 2) Yes 1) Lucas did strike the prefect balance though, people were just keen on finding ways to hate on him
I know Episode I has more practical effects than all three original trilogy movies, and Episode III has quite a lot too, but Episode II...not really, I believe the only actual practical sets used for the film, at least the ones I know about, are Padme’s bedroom, the Outlander Club, and Slave I’s interior
