I lost 180lbs using calorie counting and don't regret it in hindsight but also wouldn't recommend it learning what I have learned from this channel and others. If you are to a level of obesity as I was chances are you are still eating too much and it is good to get that in check. While counting calories might be a good gateway if you really just need to start eating less, IF would have been more sustainable, especially when combined with focusing more on what you are eating. I gained a lot of my weight back and have been doing IF for over a month and have loved it and have started seeing/feeling results.

Weight loss in men is infinitely different than weight loss in women--especially if you're a woman that is/has gone through menopause. Counting calories simply doesn't work in that situation for women. I do agree that eating the recommended portions of food is a good start. Most of us don't read the label or look up what a "portion" is or how many portions of a particular food group we should be eating per day. My husband is in his 50's and he seems to be able to lose 10 pounds by having two meal replacement shakes and a sensible meal over the course of a week. Using the same dieting methods as he did, it took me over two months to lose 7 pounds. It's definitely tied to gender and hormone levels.
@ssing7113
@ssing7113 4 года назад
That’s amazing Ryan. Another tip you could try is becoming in tune with your body.. this is a natural system that is more sustainable then IF I believe. You obviously had a more radical journey then most so keep it up. Just go slow and steady so your weight loss is permanent. I’ve kept my weight off for 12 years and only going better and better every year the more I modify my diet as in being vegan and meal ideas. You can do it. Permanent weight loss. Break that limiting belief and be your actual weight you desire and deserve. ITS YOURS

Congrats on the loss Ryan!! I too lost 100lbs counting calories & exercising, but gained it all back after 2 pregnancies. Now Im here to start over and get rid of this 100lbs. The thing that is hardest for me is WHAT to eat. Its so hard to change my habits.

Autumn -- I'm so glad that I found you. I used to restrict my calorie only to find that it makes me binge. I'm the most fit in my life now, and I don't ever count calories (125 pounds for 5'6''). Thank you for this (and every other video)! I am vegan and you are the one non-vegan youtuber I genuinely love watching and learning from. I have been having a very hard time losing weight as well as feeling light-headed after most of my meals. I got my blood work done and everything was perfect, so I've been at a loss. I do eat a very high carb diet as a lot of vegans do, and after watching your videos I have decided to focus on getting more fat, fiber, and protein in each meal. So far, when eating these types of meals, I feel great afterwards and do not get that light-headed feeling. I have read so many books and watched so many different videos and your channel has been the most helpful to me so far. Thank you!

@Jay Stall. I just did the Whole30 plan and the weight was redistributed. This video was very informative and explanatory, and fit right in with the Whole30 ideas. If you try it, the best advice from my coach was to meal prep ahead of time (make enough for several days) and not to make more than 1-2 new recipes a week. There is no counting calories and it resets your body. After 30 days, you take another 10 days to gradually add back in the food groups prohibited during the month. I hope this helps you or someone else!

Coffee with heavy whipping cream is now my favorite. On the oatmeal, get over it. You can't get around the glycemic impact. It will cause a big insulin reaction, especially the morning. And fasting is best way to restrict calories. Feast and famine, we were designed that way!

I even cut out coffee. I slept well, no high impact workouts that would increase cortisol, nothing. Only thing is I didn't do intermittent fasting due to my hypoglycemia. I would like to see the literature cited for potentially harmful claims like avoiding oatmeal for breakfast, reducing fruit consumption and swaping grains for fat. These three alone can result in severely reduced daily fiber intake, which is already quite low in an average American.

Autumn, I love your videos. I am wondering if I'm the only one that wishes you could talk a little more slowly. I am so interested in what you have to say, but I feel manic and anxious hearing you speak with no pauses. Maybe it's just me.

“Don’t get hungry” vs “intermittent fasting”... are they contradicting each other?
@plummetplum

Don't get hungry when feasting, when fasting it's kind of different, you are hungry but it passes.

You're supposed to eat all your calories in a shorter window of time and you should be asleep for most of your fast. Just wait til lunch to eat and you have now fasted for 16 hours if you haven't eaten since 8pm the night before.

Lauren Bowie of course! 40g Scottish / rolled oats 250ml almond or soy milk (you can use water) Heat on medium heat on a stove for about 8 minutes or until cooked but still got liquid Teaspoon cinnamon powder 1.5 teaspoon chia seeds Tablespoon peanut butter (I use meridian brand) Optional - scoop of vanilla protein powder (add this after the oatmeal is cooked!) And then half a cup of frozen berries (you could use non frozen but for me the crunchiness breaks up the ‘gloopy’ texture) Voila ~~

would you recommend an even longer time between meals or is 3.75 optimal?
@AutumnBates
@AutumnBates 4 года назад
It depends on if you’re using IF or not. If using IF, the 3.75 hours isn’t as necessary because you’re already getting a fasted period. If you’re not using IF, then minimum 3.75 hours is ideal while also ensuring you’re eating until satiated.

Autumn Bates i fast for 12-14 hours most of the week. mon-fri, i break my fast at 6:00 in the morning & then my lunch at work isn’t until noon. when i don’t snack in between, i feel great but i was wondering if going that long isn’t a good idea since i already fast before breakfast? or does it not matter so much when i eat during my feeding window, so long as i stay within that 10-12 hour span of time? or does frequency of meals matter just as much?
@courtneynelles1896
@courtneynelles1896 4 года назад
Yeah I wonder this too. I eat breakfast at 7 ish, lunch at noon, and then supper is around 6. I generally have a small snack of yogurt and berries around 3 otherwise my family doesn't like me before dinner. I don't have time for a huge meal at lunch because I'm a teacher and I usually only get 10-15 minutes by the time I get to the staff room to heat up my food.

It doesn't increase anything. The original point of it was to suppress appetite when dieting.

She eats a very small amount of food. That simple. You could eat one slice of cake a day and look the same as her. You can tell just from her mannerisms she’s modifying her weight by intake alone. Just because someone is a chef doesn’t mean they like eating tons of food... second night one is watching her eat all her food she actually eats in a day.... taking a bite on camera isn’t watching someone what they actually do I don’t believe in lowering carbs or starches as it’s been a proven fact to feed high carb. Sugar from fruit and starches for weight loss from Nathan priticken to McDougall to raw vegans to people who eat potatoes for extended periods. All the highest lived people ( blue zones ) eat tons and tons of carbs.

She has a separate video on carbs. She said in this video the type of food and it’s impact on insulin is what matters. Some carbs starch don’t impact insulin as much as others. She isn’t promoting keto. She’s promoting intermittent fasting and low glycemic index foods typically in her videos from what I’ve seen
