20+ Year Old Pepsi, Lucozade and Beach Coke Zero | Ashens 

Imagine finding a 9 year old unopened can of coke on the beach and your first thought is "I should give this to Ashens." ...I would have thought the same thing.

Stuarts house seems to me as though each room is a different sitcom set.

When I first read "Beach Coke" I thought it was referring to some weird obscure Coke variation. But no, of course it had to be literally a Coke someone found on the beach and gave to Ashens.

Got that beaten, a *sealed* can of diet Coke from the 90s with *nothing* inside. Factory sealed, having had, for whatever reason, no drink poured inside. We've kept it as a thing of wonder, a gaseous time capsule.

I met Ashens at the weekend and was not disappointed. I approached him as if he was a famous boyband member and I were a young teenage girl and proceeded to lose all the words from my head as he shook my hand ( I haven't washed it since! ). It was amazing and he is much bigger in person than I thought he'd be. I think I inadvertently called his videos crap and then left in a hurry before I made a fool of myself any further.

23:00 - Looks like a bit of shell (hard to tell without any sense of scale or rigidity). Was probably on the outside of the can. Algae would have just died and dissolved inside, due to the lack of light and high acidity. BTW, worth pointing out that cans are only sealed mechanically (there is no glue or welding, the rim is just folded and crimped), so any deformation (which can happen just due to thermal cycling over time) can cause small gaps to develop, which will let the liquid evaporate or other liquids (ex., seawater) to get in. Metal bottle caps typically have a soft rubbery plastic insert that will maintain a decent seal against the glass even through thermal expansion, but plastic caps don't.

Metallicy hint of rot describes these pretty well. In 2003 I accidentally drank a full can of pepsi from the late 70s. I thought they were doing like throwback cans and I was a dumb kid. Was pretty sick afterwards.

I've always loved the comparison of tonic water tasting like TV static, Lucozade original tastes like a TV channel you haven't tuned into properly.

It's probably not that the Beach Coke hadn't lost any of it's contents, but rather that it had been replenished with seawater and sewage during its voyage.

I once had an old can of Mountain Dew that's been sitting in my room for a while. At some point it got shot with a toy gun and got a small dent in it. Some time later I tried to pick it up and it had no weight to it. There was no visible leak on it anywhere and the fluid that was inside was never found, it was just ...empty...

I was at the Lake district, and I put money in to a vending machine that seemed a little off the beaten path but whatever I was thirsty, out popped a Lucozade and a moth, and the Lucozade was two years past it's best before, I didn't realise that last bit until I finished the drink.

I was wondering what "Beach Coke Zero" could possibly mean and I wasn't disappointed.

As a kid I also found a 15 year old can of Pepsi in the basement. I made the mistake of taking a swig directly from the can, without pouring it out first to check. There were solid bits.

The juxtaposition of my emotions with the thirst-quenching nostalgia of seeing those Pepsi and Lucozade cans/bottles and the absolute sheer, uncompromising horror of what unfolded with the Beach Coke Zero is quite sensational.

Those Arabic Coke cans we always called "Jesus Coke" on the ship as the Arabic writing kinda looks like it says Jesus. We would always get the Jesus Cokes when we transitioned to the Persian Gulf.

Haven’t seen a glass lucozade bottle for years! I definitely remember getting a bottle of lucozade if I was sick off school.

I'd be interested in a laboratory run chemical analysis of so many of these drinks. I imagine all sorts of stuff has been going on at a molecular level since the 'use-by' date flew by.

Most of all the gases that are normally in the soda has came out and escaped through the opening since cans are not completely sealed. That would have caused it to lose quit a bit of it's mass as well as cause the syrup and sugar to thicken and give it a strange taste.
