I'm starting to watch your videos with more and more interest, I have a lightly tuned 78 corvette which I put a 200-4R level two from Bowtie Overdrives in 2003 and it's starting to run out of steam a little. A few years ago I bought a Pro Super Kit from TCI with performance bands and clutches and a gasket and seal kit K32900-1RC-MD, 1981/90 GM and I decided to start this winter in the repair of the gearbox and I hope, thanks to you, to succeed. Thanks to your video I was able to find and buy on E-Bay the red tool to extract the reverse gear, it is a rather rare tool. A big thank you from France for your very clear videos
nooooooo Renee hahahaha 😎 Watch along as we put it back together one section at a time. Trust me it's not rocket science as we're doing it in baby steps. Worst case you can always give up and send out the pieces lol... but I understand it can look intimidating for sure 😉 Good luck regardless of what you choose to do with her!!!
Low Reverse Special Tool, you have some really good videos I'm building a 200 4r and beefing it up to handle around 500hp and am following your videos they are a big help and well done. I got to the Low Reverse and tried and tried to get it out with no luck. So I tried one last thing before buying a tool. The trans is on an engine stand with a trans fixture. I turned the trans bell housing pointing down and put a large piece of cardboard under it, then lightly taped on the bell housing with a hammer and after just 4 taps the low reverse fell out. Now I just hope I can get it back in with out a tool, Thanks for the great videos
Awesome! It's possible to put back in without the tool... as long as you have lots of patience and also lots of time. It's gotta go back in straight. Good luck!
I'm pretty sure you can use the tool that you used for the low/reverse on the center support as well. My tool came with two sets of teeth, on was for the center support and the other for low reverse assembly. The first time I did one of these, I took it all apart without any special tools and built it in my dining room. It was the second transmission I ever rebuilt. These 200r4s make a th350, th400 and c6 look easy, and they are compared to the 200r4.
Thanks for watching! Yeah, they are more challenging to build than the others but that overdrive function is sooooooooo worth the effort!! The black plastic tool I bought many years ago so not really sure what it came with when I got it. But any adaptors are long gone... the red tool is my preferred one and that comes with 2 low-reverse adaptors: one for the 2004r, 200 and 325 along with another for the 125. Good luck with your build😎
Great series of videos! I'm following along as I disassemble my KC 200-4r. Hit an issue in that the center support brought out the direct drum with it. Got a hint on how to separate the center support from the drum?
Thanks for watching! Sometimes the metal rings hold on tight lol... just stick something in between them to act as a pry bar and pry them apart. Of course, don't use something sharp and scratch the center support. For example, lotsa tape on end of flat tip screwdriver should work. I assume you tried spinning the center support while attempting to pull it out already... Good luck with ur build! 🤙😎
Great vids Phil ,,I Was wondering what internals I would need to upgrade the 200 for my 403 Olds with 300-325 HP ? Or do you think the 200 can handle it in stock form ?
@@DELTRANIO99 at your power level either the superior or transgo should be fine... I'd go with the Superior kit superiortransmission.com/product/superior-k200-4r/ Good luck!
Just follow along the videos... in the worst case you fail and bring it to a local shop. Imagine the pride you'll feel driving the car knowing you did the tranny😀
Most of my 2004r specific tools I bought like 10 years ago... so not much to link to anymore. Ebay has a lot but they're one off sellers. www.streetsidetools.com also has some tools. Otherwise, get a 200-4R ATSG Rebuild Manual off ebay and it will list all the factory tool part numbers (j tools). Then search those part numbers on ebay and you can often find them used from a closed dealership or whatever. Hope that helps!
Thanks for asking... but I'm a shmo not a pro lol. So I just do it for fun and decided to film the process as I'm actually doing it this time so someone else could learn how too. If you have the time/patience... why not follow along and rebuild one too? Post questions when in doubt. As you can see it's not sooooo difficult a job to tackle. The hardest part is finding a rebuildable core
@@wrenchingwithphil this is awsome and i appricaite it very much. i have a early 2oo R4 with only BOP pattern and going to rebuild it soon to exchange against my th 350. I rebuild the 35o by my self and it was not astronauts technology. I want to ask you Phil do you have an advice for where i can get a good rebuild kit? the tranny is going behind an 409 cui oldsmobile engine but i think about to swap to an ls maybe and want to build a good and strong 200 R4 for 500 HP
It will be a great upgrade from the th350... overdrive on the highway is sooooooo much better! I have experience with Chris's stuff from CK Performance @ www.ckperformance.com/List/GM-Transmissions/2004R and would recommend them. In this build I'm using all their upgrade parts too... Good luck with the build Jonas!
@@wrenchingwithphil i could not found the tool to remove the low reverse clutch on eBay did you remeber where you got this tool from. I am located in Germany and here it is hard to find. By the way do you have social media?
