200+HP K20A3 build part 2: building the VTEC killer cylinder head.

In part 2 of the 200+HP K20A3 build I put together the VTEC killer cylinder head using K20A2 camshafts and some new single lobe k20a3 exhaust rockers for the intake side. The bottom end is a K20A3 block with K20A2 pistons. If you are interested in seeing more of the build check out the videos in the links below. As always thank you for watching and have a great day!

Mate you're a natural and I had to laugh @ 06:31 when you had the A3 on a stand wearing singlet and shorts I thought I was watching a Australian engine build. Good video. And I'm sold on a K_SERIES.I Cant wait to get my hands on it.

It's coming soon! I have been working hard to get everything together and prepare the chassis for the engine. Thanks for checking out the videos! Temperatures are currently in the negative by the time I get off work but by next week things will warm up and I can put out some new content

Really informative and such a trail blazer, i do alot if off wall undoctrine endeavors. Thinking if this fir an 05 element, but my c9ncern is its auto, not sure if it can tune the idle low rpms? I have ktuner.

For the k20a2 cams, you’re saying grinding is required for both old/new style rocker arms?

motor will rev faster then the a2 because its got lighter rotating assembly vs a2 build same motor with a2 head and a2 oil pump was sweet

EXACTLY!! I also stuck an a2 prb oil pump in this motor as well and will be discussing that in my next video. With some porting on the a3 head or even a k24a1 head with the same cam and vtec killer setup as my a3 its possible to make great power on a budget still. If you were to port the k24a1 head as well it can flow a crazy amount of air. I think I'm going to grab a bare k24a1 head and make a video about porting it. That way after I show this setup on the dyno, I can swap heads and show the difference and power you can make for cheap.

Such a great, informative video! Can you tell me if you used the A3 or A2 cam gears with the A2 cams? I think I’m going to attempt to build one since I currently have an A3 torn down in my garage, getting it ready for EG swap. Thanks!

Thank you! I ended up using the a3 cam gears. I believe the only difference between the a2 and a3 cam gears is that the vtc gear on the a2 cam gears has a larger degree it can be adjusted to. Thanks for checking out the video and feel free to ask any questions. I do my best to respond to everyone.

jdmjedi777 thanks for the quick reply! I just got a sick deal on a pair of A2 cams for $100 shipped and they look super clean. They don’t come with the A2 gears is why I asked. You rock.

i have an a3 as well in my base rsx, as for the cams should i go with a2 cams or could i go for more aggressive cams?

The more aggressive option would be the TSX cams. I know that with those its a bit tougher to get to idle and you have to be careful with your VTC angles but are capable of more power. I just put this setup on the dyno today and will be posting the dyno pulls and video soon!

I'm thinking about rebuilding my K24a1 out of a CRV with tsx internals, porting the head and going vtec killer, do you have any more thoughts or considerations i should take?

Sounds like a great build to me. Just clay the pistons to check valve clearance and let her rip. Would love to know the results. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

only the hot side stay like killer cams and the intake close and open vtec?

With this setup both sides always ride on the vtec lobe. It is possible to get a set of a2 intake rockers, switch the pins around and still allow vtec to work on the intake side.

What are your thoughts on k24a2 pistons in a k20a3

You will need to bore the block out 1mm but the k24 pistons will fit on the k20 rods. I'm honestly not sure what your compression ratio would be or what your p2v clearance would be but it should work.

@@jdmjedi777 I have a bunch of leftover parts from my k24a2 that I'm building and I no I can drop the cams and rockers to make it VTEC on both sides and I no the rsx bore is 87mm stock as well as the k24a2 which in theory should work with the pistons

@@knoxbom3274 k20 bore is 86mm k24 bore is 87mm. You will in fact need to bore the block 1mm for those pistons. Just because the k24a2 is 10 to 1 compression ratio doesn't mean that when you stick the k24 pistons in the k20a3 it will have the same compression ratio. K24 has a longer rod length. A longer rod alone without a taller compression height or dome height on the piston will create a higher compression ratio. You need to measure the compression height of the piston and figure out the dome heights. Then determine what cylinder head to run. If you stick with the k20a3 head you will actually end up with a higher compression ratio than with an a2 head because of the square combustion chamber. You will still need to clay the pistons especially if using the a3 head.

I'm working on the car as I type this comment actually! Been working real hard on the chassis and everything. I have a dyno reserved for the 27th and am trying to run the car at import face off in may.
