How is the drainage hose connection? What hose size is it? Does the connection need a hose clamp to be secured tightly? This info would have been nice addition to the manual. Now I have already assembled my composter and it is half full of material. Measuring the connection and attaching is impossible at the moment, but I have to do it next time when I will empty the composter.
to aerobincomposter You say that worms find there way in. If its a fully sealed unit, how could they? effective aerobic organic breakdown involves fairly high temperatures. Do the immigrant worms simply add their bodies to the completed breakdown?
From the Aerobin Flickr account post, With the consistent amount of organic waste we load into this Aerobin every 2 or 3 days. This Aerobin just keeps generating leachate every single day! What you see is 7 Litre leachate we will give away to our office staffs and neighbours to dilute it with water (1:10 or 1:20 depends the type of plants) for their plants. 👀What is leachate? Leachate/composting tea and also referred as worm wee. This is the liquid seeps from decomposing organic materials. So it is the bonus you will get for your garden from home composting! Why using it? 👍1. It can be used as natural fertilisers. 👎2. Do you know landfill has all kind of rubbish include organic matters? If we don’t compost these organic matters, this leachate can contaminate the surface and ground water. 👋How to harvest it from Aerobin? 1. Turn the leachate tap at on position - the plastic handle on the tap should be at 12 o clock position. 6 o clock means closed. 2. Get a PVC tube/hose (10cm long & 13mm diameter) or (4 inches long & 0.5 inch diameter) from local hardware store and attached to the tap. 3. Dip PVC tube into a cup of very hot water to soften it and then insert it onto Aerobin tap spout- as far as it will go. 4. Put a bottle to the PVC tube and empty the bottle as required. 5. Make sure the biomass contains balanced nitrogen and carbon contents. And evenly distributed to Aerobin each load. The smaller pieces you load in, the quicker they can get composted. 6. Raise the Aerobin up on a solid platform will make the collection much easier. 🤔How to use it? Dilute it with water and give it to your garden at least 1:10 (1 part leachate to 10 parts water), for sensitive plants a ratio of 1:20.
Is it BPA free?..what about the plastic chemicals that leach out especially in Australian heat?...using "organic" compost /soil for your garden vegies ?
I got one from Costco last August, and opened the bottom lid last week. It's still raw rot materials inside, no compost at all. Disgusting. Wondering what could be wrong.
Go online and check out tutorials on compost recipes (ie. What and how much to add) to ensure you have aerable and fluffy contents to allow fir the compost to get hot enough to recompose.
