I would like to add a small annotation to this video. THIS IS AN INTERFERENCE ENGINE. IF THE TIMING BELT HAS FAILED, EXPECT BENT VALVES. Me and brother did this job today and discovered literally half the teeth sheared off the old timing belt, confirmed fuel and spark delivery after replacing the belt and timing the engine, and then decided to check for backpressure on the exhaust and no bueno despite following all directions in this video, so we are pretty certain our engine is gone as a result. However I would like to thank this guy for helping out anyways, because this is good to know so you can do the timing belt before this failure occurs and costs you a lot of money!
Man I remember my 3000GT ... If you overcame that, you can to timing belts all day long. THis one is really not that bad to be honest. That plastic dohickie Cam lock device was perfect! Love the video man thank you. Just got my girlfriend a 2005 Spectra and I prepping everything to replace.
Hey bro I just seen this video to try and change my power steering belt. My 2003 Kia spectra makes noise on start up. My mechanic said the belt is loose and they’ve tightened it like 3 times already 😂. It’s getting loose somehow. I’m thinking of buying a gator back belt to see if that makes the noise go away. The belt seems to be even on the pulleys. Maybe I need to try a different mechanic 😂
@@RustBeltAuto Its a gates micro v belt. I did some digging just now and its a 36 inch belt. I know in the video you recommended a 42 inch belt. Im having a hard time finding a 4k420 gatorback belt. How do I tighten the belt? Do i loosen up two of the bolts on the power steering and then tighten the long threaded bolt under the power steering? I turn the belt and its over a 1/4 turn. almost 1/2. Thanks for the reply brother.
I like Aisin timing kits. However they are making 2 different kits now. One is American (junk imo), and one has a Korean pump, and parts in it. Napa's Altrom line is also korean. some do continental or dayco with good results. A lot of mail order kits are Chinese knockoffs. The regular parts store brands usually are all chinese.
My timing belt broke while I was driving and I did a little research to see if it was a non-interferance engine and supposedly it is so I changed the timing belt but it only runs on 1 cylinder. I lined up all the timing marks but still not running right. Then I checked the compression and #1,2,3 have 0psi and #4 has about 60psi. I'm thinking maybe it is an interference engine and I have bent valves
I need help with my car, wish you could fix mines, it's a 2009 Kia spectra and it's leaking radiator fluid, I got a new radiator on it, but now it's leaking where the seal is on the water pump
I have this car and it was gave to me, but when we got it it didnt have the belt on for the power steering pump. And it's very hard to drive right now. Anyway we got the belt but go to put it in and it's missing bolts. Do you happen to know all measurements for all the bolts and the names for them so I can get them.
Can I adjust the camshaft and harmonic gears to the specified time marks without having to take any of the other belts off ? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Great Video, I had to subscribe to your channel.
Well 2003 Kia doesn’t run. It drove like crap and check engine turned on P0300, P0303, P0304 wouldn’t go past 20 mph. It cranks but doesn’t start. I have replaced spark plugs, cables, coils, aic valve, maf sensor, replaced hoses so no air leaks, valve cover gasket, throttle sensor, cleaned the throttle, injectors, good fuel filter and fuel pump, relays are good. No More Check engine codes but still don’t start. So I decided my last attempt would be the camshaft/crankshaft sensor/belt or timing issue must be the culprit. Upon removing the cover I realized that the E/I gears are marked and they’re not on the aligned position they’re way off and the belt looked like it was loose or slipping a little. I haven’t moved forward since yesterday. I haven’t inspected the harmonic gear so I don’t know if maybe it’s going bad causing the belt to begin to slip. Btw I am only borrowing this car from my mother so the fact that I had it for 1 week when it took a crap means I must have done something to it. So I have to fix it
Rust Belt Auto So I went to adjust the gears tdc but the gears will not align correctly. The Exhaust gear aligns perfect but the Intake gear is really off like 10 teeth. Why does that happen?
Man do I enjoy these videos. What do you think of KIA? Few of my friends have them, they seem to be mostly junk, but hold up okay for the first 100K miles, then they are ready for the scrap yard. Can you shoot me a link for the picks that you use, I'd like to get some long ones like you... OKAY BYE! :D
After I fix my Kia back up, I've decided to sell it the second I learned it has an interference engine that relies on a rubber timing belt. Literally disaster waiting to happen.
4/20 is national weed day. It's a joke. It is also Adolf Hitlers birthday, and I have no idea why weed smokers would make their pot smoking day on his birthday. Hope that answers your question.
Can anybody verify piston position when the crankshaft timing mark is lined up? Is cylinder #1 at TDC? I want to verify if the belt has jumped time without exposing the crankshaft pulley. 2006 Kia Spectra.
Yes tdc. You can always verify by removing the #1 plug. Sometimes I just drop a long screwdriver down there, and rotate the crank slowly back and forth to verify its all the way up to make sure. Harmonic balancer marks can move sometimes when the rubber gets old on some vehicles.
