at 5:42 that's the Tsunami edition Celica. One problem you missed with the c60 6 speed transmission is the shift gate is really close together and somewhat hard to get used to. Also, if you are revving a gts manual in neutral to test the "lift" activation, the car WONT rev past 6200 if it does the lift bolts are most likely bad. Also one more problem on the 2ZZ is the VVTLI oil screen. If that is clogged the car won't engage lift.
One thing no one mentions is FUEL ECONOMY. My 2000 Australian delivered ZR 6 SPD manual.is so cheap to run on the highway, around town not so much fun to drive due to the high ratio 1st gear & riding the clutch in traffic. Otherwise, every time I drive it I feel 17 again !
Proud person to own 1 .. can’t drift no matter.. this fulfill my childhood dream.. even if I have more income.. I will not change my baby.. my car color is magic dark blue.. Dark/black in day time.. when cool it changed into dark blue color.. people often debates about my car color…
Own a 2002 GTS for exactly 2 years now. I love this car. I bought it at 41,000 miles, i just broke 57,000 miles this morning and changed the oil 3 days ago. I only ever use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.
I love my GT Celicas. I have 2 Celica GT from 2001. Reliable, fun, amazing handling. I have an Apexi FC with monkey wrench racing tune on it with cold air intake and has good response power. Really fun cars.
@@JohnJones-je9ns it's an ecu that allows you to tune the engine. It's over 20 years old so it's outdated but still used for older cars and still functional. You can get an Apexi Power FC but also look into more modern ones too
Love mine easy to work on stay up to date on maintenance. 300,000 miles 03 gt trd action package still looks and sounds beautiful. People stop me constantly admiring my car.
Actually brought one here in the uk in Feb. Red, sunroof. Fitted a loud exhaust on it. Kids at my school always asking what it is.. Only the 140 model too. Paid over the odds. £4,000! But had to be 04 onwards, red, great condition, climate control,
A pawsome friend of mine had one of these when we first met, after it got bonked by a semi truck he had it painted a really slick orange with black stripes and graphics that matched a tattoo he's super proud of. Wish he got to do more with it but last i heard he stepped up to an AMG benz and the celica is sitting in his shed
It seems America got a bit of a raw deal compared to us in the UK. The base model here came with a 6 speed manual. And the GTS or what we call the vvtli 190 or TS had 192 bhp. There was another TRDS model with 230 bhp
Silver 2003 celica gts 6speed. Kaminari carbon spoiler,VIS carbon hood on BC coils. ASA LW5 wheels with full Authentic Trd Kit. And trust me it's staying with me alll the way to the grave 😤.
Amazing how these get the love from the owners. I have a 1992 ST185, and though the styling on the 7th Gen isn't my cup of tea, I still have to give a wave and a thumbs up. These are classics in the making.
I had an '03 GT that I miss dearly. Unfortunately, the previous owner really beat that car, and it needed so much work that I was forced to get rid of it. But finding one now in decent shape is hard! There really aren't that many left---most of them were either abused, or driven in road salt, and then they found their way into junkyards. If you're buying a GT, make sure to stay away from 2000-2002 models; they had problems with the oil control rings on the pistons, and they burned a lot of oil. They fixed it in 2003
@@sezuawn3861 Kids (shaking my head). Pistons have several compression rings, and 1 dedicated oil control ring. In the case of the 1zz mentioned, the compression rings were fine, it was the oil control rings that were defective. I hope you learned something new today.
I have a 2003 GT TRD that wasn't beat to death, and no rust. Indeed, a rare find. I really like it, it's my summer toy, had it 2 years now, and I don't beat it either. I have no illusions that it's a fast car, because it isn't, but it handles nice, still gets attention, and it very good on fuel. My first car many years ago was a Celica, a rusty 1977 GT. Later on I bought a very nice used 1981 GT, that was a good car. I guess Celica is in my blood.
oof i just bought a 2001 toyota celica in good condition all stock and not beat up paint and body is beautiful interior is beautiful only thing is if has a lot of miles but now i am worried 😭
I used to have an 06 Matrix XRS 6 Speed Manual Transmission the gears are really short if you're doing casual driving you're constantly shifting gears until you reach 40mph 60km/h in 4th gear. I want a Celica GT-S, I like the Toyota emblem inside the grille on the 03-04 models.
You shouldn't of even brought up transmissions, i know you probably dont own a 7th gen, but both GT and GT-S trims came with 5 and 6 speed manual, and there are GT-S cars that look like its a GT but its not, body kits and trannys have nothing to do with separate trims, but again, great video, we need more celica content in this world💯
Thanks for the input! I didn’t know the gts came with a 5 speed. If I mentioned that the gts always had the bodykit I didn’t mean to. I just wanted to mention the bodykit because it ads value to the car.
@@hakosan86 yeah for sure, they had the normal "basemodel" looking body kit, and then and the TRD kit and Tsunami edition kit, everything else is aftermarket, cool that your Mr2 has the same engine as my base model GT though, i want an Mr2, porsche helped design the way they looked, beautiful cars, huge headlights lol.
@@sezuawn3861 all gts should be 2zz, and the 2zz only comes with a 6 speed manual. only the gt or 1zzfe can have 5 speed or 6 speed in European markets. and the mrs engine is slightly different to the celicas 1zzfe
@@arcanevoid9199 2zz came with 5 and 6 speed, 5 speed is better in my opinion because when you start pushing more power even through bolt ons, you have the longer gearing to accommodate it. Everytime the person in the 6 speed shifts your gapping em a bit more every gear with the 5 speed.
@@hakosan86 cleaning her up and putting some rims on it! i was thinking about a new bumper too since there’s a little bit of damage to it and getting some exhaust work done. and also get a touch screen radio put in. i’m new to celicas so i’ll definitely have to do more research on all that and be careful haha! very pretty car though, i feel in love with the looks of it and so far everyone’s bragging on them
2000 gts with mwr stage two cam job and a port and polish new mwr oil pump and oil pan. The only problem I have ever had is an oil leak from around the head which was not bad and the E brakes rotted out on me. Had it for 20 years, still have it and before that had a 1990 Celica gt. Yes the car is still slow, but it sounds and feels like a proper sports car. Forgot the headlights will yellow over time, I just polish it with Meguires headlight restore wax when I wash the car and Plastix to coat them.
For the USDM celicas, in my opinion the top 3 rarest colors are 1. Thunder Cloud 2. Zephyr Blue Metallic 3. Solar Yellow. For the UK, the rarest color would be Island Green. I have a 04 GTS/Action Package 6 speed MT. Wish it had the OEM HIDS though.
5:31-5:40 Wings West sides and rear valence sighting. lol Enjoyed the comprehensive summarization. you definitely know the car well. so you have a 2zz on your mr2 spyder? I've always wanted to know what those run with a stock 2zz.
These are very cheap atm near me taking like 1k for less then 90k miles and good condition. Even the insurance is cheap for me after a year of driving (uk based tho)
I'm about to buy a 2000 celica (manual, 1.8l, 5 speed). The problem is a bad transmission.. the body is in good shape, no rust, no accident. How much would you pay for this? Is the transmission ez to find? It is around 215000 km.
2000 Celica GT would be 5spd. However , in 2003 Toyota🇨🇦 built the Pontiac Vibe GT VVTL-i 6spd. auto recyclers charge less for a Pontiac then Toyota engines, make it a common swap .
ya ,… the car had international success . my experience is limited to the cars mfg. Toyota Canada 🇨🇦 Cambridge , Ontario . I’m in the mountains of British Columbia’s Cental Interior , but I operate province wide . Best of luck with the Celica !
May I ask what does T23 mean? If I look online I only find Informations about the gt and the gt-s models and I'm really lost since all I can find while looking on the marketplaces is this "t23" model. Thanks
It's pretty much a generation number, the way the Supra has (A80 for the mk4) or a BMW has (E36, E46 etc). The T23 is the 7th gen, the T20 is 6th gen and so on.
@@n-putsgarage2875 Thanks.. are you saying that the action wing needs more holes than the standard wing? And the extra tabs? Are those on the Action TRD wing as well? Would it still be stable? Is it do one OR the other or do I need to cut off the tabs and still drill the holes? Thanks!
@@peterdaniel66 you can cut the tabs if you dont want to use the tabs on the Action Package wing. Or drill holes into the hatch to use the tabs. But you will need to drill at least 1 hole to run the 3rd brake light. Toyota used 3M double sided tape on the underside mounting area of the wing. Yes it will be just fine if you cut the tabs. But you will need to use the 3M double sided tape either way. you will also need to re wire the connector on the body harness to use the 3rd brake light
I had one,it’s the Australian version but Australia had 2zz only the zr is the top of the line version it has stuff like metal plate pedals,16” fog lights, standard sunroof just cosmetic stuff really and the lower version was called sx, they all had 6 speed manual or 4speed auto.
