I'll never forget the day before this game, I was watching sports coverage on WGN and the sports anchor said something along the lines of "The good news is that Northwestern is in a bowl game. The bad news is that Northwestern is playing Nebraska." Those were the days. I miss them :(

HuskerIsNumberOne I'm feeling confident Coach Frost is going to bring that old luster back to Lincoln. The B1G is attracting some high-profile head coaches (Meyer, Harbaugh, D'Antonio, and now Frost), that hopefully will translate to a boost in recruiting. I think we're going to be satisfied. Go Big Red!!

@@lindseysummers5351 ya, it will not be the great husker you once knew, not with that shut offense he runs. They'll never win a title with the spread, because your dedense will not be dominant, I'm telling you go and look at all the spread offense teams and all there defenses are average. Now teams like alabama who run an offense built on the running game, have defenses that don't bend or break. If frost can switch back to the old I formation power running game then the husker will be great again until then, yes they'll play in bowls but not title games, I'm telling you guys. If Solich was still there you wouldn't have had 15 years of shit brand football, well minus 4 years of bo' s coaching they were a better team under him for sure

Vanden Bosch kind of gets overlooked when it comes to the better defensive players in Nebraska football history. He had a solid career at Nebraska and went on to have a very good career in the NFL including being a three-time Pro Bowler over 12 seasons (despite having a couple of knee injuries early in his career). A constant disruption in the backfield. It's a shame he wasn't around for the 2001 season, a player like him might have helped prevent the Colorado and Miami debacles at the end of that season, although he alone wouldn't have been enough to make up the gap to that Miami team in '01.
@latarribell7827

Nothing they could have done against that Miami team which rivals '95 Nebraska as greatest college teams in my lifetime. Colorado game was all on the coaches as they never adjusted to that stretch play. Pre-Callahan Huskers were a thing of beauty and I miss that brand of football.

This was probably the last vintage performance by Nebraska as a national power - where they completely and totally overwhelmed a quality opponent. It was commonplace for a long time but they haven't been at this level since. Maybe Frost can eventually get them there but going to be tough to do in the Big 10.

The Big Red was one of the best teams in the country in 2000. They got owned by Oklahoma but should have beaten K State. I wonder if they couldn't have beaten the Sooners in a rematch in a neutral site. This beating sent a message to the country for 2001. Too bad they didn't follow through.

Yeah, the Huskers got spanked in Norman early in the season (but got payback in '01 - with Eric's catch). So they ended one season on a serious up note, only to nosedive at the end of the next season... And they really haven't been the same (consistently) since.

Bryan Neideffer Not having permanent divisional crossover opponents like the SEC is just one way the Big XII fouled up. Oklahoma was Nebraska's only real rivalry from the former Big 8. Missouri was competitive up until about the 1970's. But the rest of them (Colorado, Kansas, K State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State) were very one-sided.

I will never say its getting boring (especially because of how we've been upset 7 years in a row one-two game(s) a season) but when you beat Texas twice in a row OK STATE 3 times in a row.. 3-ts conference titles.. I want an old rival back.. Can we like.. take Nebraska from the Big 10 back here? Maybe? - Oklahoma Fan

John Van Hof Wasn't going to happen. They felt disrespected and left for greener pastures. The whole Heroes Trophy game on Black Friday felt so flat the first time I saw it. Now, after getting blasted three straight times, I am looking for some payback!! They have other natural geographic rivalries with Wisconsin and Minnesota, plus the fact that everyone is gunning for Ohio State. Their presence in the B1G felt quite weird at first, but is beginning to grow on me. Hopefully Coach Frost is going to Indianapolis on a regular basis, along with some trips to Pasadena.

@@robjohnson8861 So? Most of those losses were when he was trying to build K-State from the bottom. Your stat is meaningless without the context. The fact he got any wins against top 10 teams is amazing with the program they were, and by the time any top teams were losing to them they were a top 10 team themselves, not the losers they once were. If only there were a Snyder to turn you around.
@robjohnson8861
@robjohnson8861 3 года назад
@@dadestarmysteries255 God, I love owning you. The 5-36 stat is not my stat. It lives and breathes because it is so bad and obviously it has validity because he was compared to his peers. He was horrible against Top 10 teams his entire career. From a 2017 post I found which was before he got another win against a top 10 team. 1) Snyder is actually now 4-36 vs. AP Top 10. 2) His first AP Top 10 win was unfortunately vs. Kansas in 1995 -- but it was Kansas nonetheless in Manhattan. He never beat a Tom Osborne team. He only beat Nebraska ONCE as a top 10 team EVER: in 2000. All-time, Snyder is 1-11 vs. a Top 10 Nebraska team. 3) The vaunted 1998 team only played one top 10 team that season... AND KSU LOST (Texas A&M - in B12 CH game). Obviously that team went on to lose to unranked Purdue in the Alamo Bowl. 4) His first top 10 win vs. a team other than Kansas was Nebraska, in his 12th year. After that win he was 2-19 vs. the AP Top 10. That win. Against Solich. 5) After his first tenure ended in 2005, Snyder was 3-25 vs. the AP Top 10. 6) Since coming back, Snyder is just 1-11 vs. the AP Top 10. Of course, the sole win was vs. Bob Stoops of OU, vs. whom he has two of his four Top 10 wins ever (in 40 total games). 7) In Bowl games, Snyder of course is 0-fer vs. Top 10 teams all-time: 0-4. Against any AP ranked team in bowls, he's just 2-6 (including losses to #18 Syracuse and #14 UCLA) 8) All-time, Snyder's best bowl win by ranked opponent would be... either #14 Syracuse (1997 season) or #21 Tennessee (2000 season) -- both games in which KSU was the higher ranked team. 9) Snyder has only won one road game vs. a Top 10 team -- it came in his 21st season of coaching: 2006 at (yep, you guessed it) OU (24-19). This one win actually matches KU's road win total vs. the top 10 in the same period (KU beat #4 CU 40-24 in 1995). 10) Finally, Snyder is just 2-13 all-time at home vs. the Top 10 (again one of those wins vs. Kansas). He's 1-17 in true road games, and 1-6 in the post-season.
