2000 Ford Expedition with original engine and transmission. Burns about 3/4 quart of oil every $1,000 miles. Check out my follow-up video: • 2000 Ford Expedition, ...
These are the best trucks ever built by anyone, period. My 99 Eddie Bauer is still beautiful in and out and has 335,000 miles on the original 5.4 engine, original transmission(with original fluid still in it) and original quiet as a mouse rear end. also original fuel pump and A/C compressor, and exhaust system, original working power windows and power door lock actuators and original never worked on stereo with 6 disc CD changer. Also the original headliner, door panels, carpet, dash still look new.....only had to redo the front seat upholstery. Original door hinges still quiet and tight. original weatherstrips still like new. AND.......never had a check engine light come on in 335,000 miles....... Try this with your Tahoe or Suburban and let me know how that works out.
Your son says its not cool enough? Shoooooot! I bought my 1998 Ford Expedition in 2000. I was 25 years old and trust and believe, it got the job done! I still have it. Its got 214,000 miles on her. Ive never pulled anything with her. The a/c and paint job are shot to hell, but like you said, its a good daily driver.
Congratulations on keeping her running. I have a 2001 with a small lift and dual pipe exhaust and she has close to 202,000k and she has a broken timing cang but its being fixed by my cousin.
I've got an 03 e250 with the 4.2 I thank god regularly for my gift (the van) and how reliable it has been is all glory to god. Been a very good truck to say the least.
I have this truck in Black and Tan. It has 36,200 miles on it. My husband waxes it monthly I think and takes great care of it. Our son uses it to get to work when it snows. We’re in the northeast. It does use a lot of gas but it’s fully paid for for over 15 years.😃
Great vehicles for Year models 1999-2002. Got a 1999 (178k miles) and a 2001 (160k miles) Wife said why you need two? I said 2 is better than 1. Then my wife wanted one. Got her a 2003 with 130k. She loves it and now has 160k on it, but timing chain making rattle. I'm thinking of doing timing chain on all 3 at the 200k mark! Nice video thanks.
2004 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 5.4L, 2 Valve, AWD, Heavy Duty tow package & 4x4 with 175,000 on the dash. Love her to death! Just replaced water pump/belt and serpentine belt. Before that I've only had to replace front brake line and 1 pully wheel in engine other than that no problem at all. Regular maintenance and oil changes done and I don't dogged her at all! That's the problem, people know these trucks can take a beating so they proceed to dog them and not do regular maintenance when needed then complain when it gives out. I see a lot of 1st gens and actually more 1st than 2nd gens and if you do see a 2nd gen it's all beat to hell
Amen brother if that Expedition is good enough for you it is good enough for your kid and I salute you for that view. I would have been proud to have been handed the keys to that truck when I started driving. I wish more kids had an appreciation for what was cool before high-tech came along and ruined vehicles and made them oh so very expensive to own and maintain. Congrats on keeping this jewel going for 339,000 miles!
Nice rig. I just bought a’99 XLT 4x4 with the 5.4. 160k. Taking it in to replace the timing chain. Was chirping when I bought it. Already mostly converted to an overlander.
I recently purchased a 2000 Exp, with the 4.6 w/216000 miles on it ( the 4.6 is basically the same thing as the 289 ci which has been a Ford motor since 1965 it was the second motor put into the mustang back in the beginning of the true muscle car age, the first motor of the mustang 🐎 was the 260 v-8 but since it was supposed to be a American sports car they wanted a few more hp ) the 4.6 has been around for a long time and besides the truck and Suv , most Ford police crown victoria have the same engine in them. I just happened to have a 02 CV with just under 90k miles on it and it has the 4.6 also, both run great. I took my Exp to a friend of mine shop so I get on a lift and check out how it looked underneath, ( I live in a small town in SE Az and any 4wh usually has had issues underneath because there's a lot of dirt roads and off-road is done a lot. It looked great and my friend (for 18 years working on my veh.) said it was one of the cleanest that he had ever seen specially for a 20 year old veh., how ever he wanted to show me something. One of the vehicles he had in the shop was another exp but it was a 5.4 but the part he was working on was the transfer case, because of the all wheel drive that can be shift into a durable 4 wheel drive, the transfer case is set up like a automatic transmission and has a massive clutch pack with close to 20 plates in it, now what is a small, but seriously pain in the butt design flaw is when that automatic shift in the 4wh drive it can cause the whole pack to slam into the case and eventually cause a crack or small hole in the case it self. Now there's a easy fix for it 3 little inserts and it's ok, but you have to open it up to get there. And any thing else on the outside it's not going to work because it's under pressure and will continue to leak, unless of course you have a mig-welder. There's a lot more stuff to cover on the,4.6 but I have carried on to long and I have to go, I have Parkinson and I get really pissed at this stupid phone, one of these days it's going to get a 454 upgrade about 300 grain hp at 1800fps. Everyone God bless America and President Trump and all of you, Have a nice day.
My 01 F-150 think they have same engine... I have the flywheel screech also and I also use 5/30 synthetic every 6000 ... I've had my truck since 04 and ive got 304,000 currently and it still is running great... only real problem ive had was coil packs going bad evey now and again. Awesome engine by ford
I have a 2003 expedition xlt 413k miles running strong only changed timing chain and guidance thing is amazing trans never been changed just regular fluid changes and I have trans dip stick in engine bay on my 03 love these rigs
I’m 16 and I’m really considering buying an expedition since cars aren’t my thing. This video has really convinced me to buy one, thanks! You don’t see much vehicles from the 2000s besides Toyota and Honda that are reliable.
The expedition is very reliable and a great and fun car to drive, you can do towing competition with your friends trucks and sometimes you'd win even when their trucks are a newer versions, I highly recommend getting one, I'm 16 and drive my dad's Ford expedition xlt 4.6 and I'm very happy with the fact that we have it
Was my first car. Great car. Brake lines rusted out. Replaced those and got a fusion. Old car and I live in Illinois so it is what it is. But I’m actually looking at getting at 2000 tomorrow
I have an 05 explorer with the 4.6. Currently at 193k and runs like new. 5w20 motorcraft oil changed every 2500mi since I got it at 61k mi. I absolutely love it. No rust, paint shines like new. Very hard thing to do living on Long Island
@@shanet7511 I’ve had it for 8 years. The transmission is definitely a weak link. Expect to rebuild it at some point during your ownership. Maintain the fluid and filter regularly too. Outside of the transmission, my explorer has been flawless as I love it.
I'm headed to jouston now to look at another 99 f 150 4.6 there motors are bullet proof I an in the middle of that and an exspidition but I haven't found an expidition
nice one there. I also got a 2000 ford expedition 5.4 at 190k kilometers. only trouble i have is the sudden shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. i had it for 4 years since i took it. i am the 3rd owner
bought a 2000 ford expedition 5.4 eddie bauer for 200 bucks from my math teacher. 245k and we just put in a new intake manifold and it runs like new! For 200 bucks that thing is in such good shape i feel like we practically stole it from him
they don't make em like they use to, our 1999 is right about the same mileage as yours, engine was replaced at 289,000 miles due to timing chain failure, the transmission and rear end are original
I have a 99 Exp. with 78K miles on it fully option less the Eddie Bauer option, I have notice that the steering is super light and it seems to turn way to easy, if in a panic I fear it will cause the vehicle to flip, does anyone else notice that?
Heads up, super tech full synthetic is incredible. Go watch Project Farm doing tests on all the major brands of oil and supertech came in ahead of M1! Still, mobil makes a great synthetic
Makes me feel even more hopeful than I already do about mine. Mine just cracked 240k miles and I’m in NYC so we just had a really cold week recently and the battery had to get replaced. Other than basic regular maintenance, I can’t remember anything I’ve done. Can you recommend anything as far as fluid changes? I just did a radiator system flush less than a month ago.. how about brake fluid/trans fluid:power steering fluid flushed?
Greetings from Texas. I have changed the trans fluid at the intervals of 80k. I would suggest that you change out the oil in the rare differential if you have not done that in awhile. If the rear gears go out, it gets super expensive. I have not flushed the power steering fluid for awhile now. However, I always change the oil and filter (motorcraft) every 6k miles.. Of course, I have to add about 3/4 qt every 1k miles as it does eat oil. Another thing that I do periodically is I put a can of SeaFoam in the gas tank every 2k miles. I believe that using SeaFoam has made a huge difference!
Had a 97 at 187,000 miles it had head gasket failure, I guess I can blame it on the previous owner for not changing the oil on a regular basis nor the coolant
Have a 01 expedition w/ all wheel dr. The u joint is on on the short drive line from transfer case to fromt axle. There are 4 bolts holding the driveline on each end .I used an impact gun on those bolts and was unable to get even one to break free.By chance would these. B left handed threads? Or just lock tight.?
I have a 2004 Ford Expedition with the 4.6 that I bought new. Towed many times, a car on a carrier and a 6' x 12', too many times to count. The 4.6 V-8 and EOD transmission makes for an excellent drivetrain. Yours is still very nice looking too.
i have the 5.4 oil changes every 5k with 371k miles, as long as you use motorcraft spark plugs and motorcraft ignition coils it'll last. I'm keeping mine till at least 500k
Don't You do a lot of Videos on RU-vid about all kinds of unusual things and people? Your Voice sounds very familiar. I have a 1998 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition. I like everything but the gas mileage and it is a 5.4. It has blown one spark plug that had to be fixed. I think it has 225,000 miles on it. I just recently put all new spark plugs, coil packs and fuel injectors on it. It runs good now, but the check engine light is on. Probably more emissions parts to change, several of them have already been changed.
The fix for the blown plugs is simple....torque the spark plugs to 30 foot lbs instead of the 10 foot lbs. Ford gave them at the factory......what happens is that they get loose, then they rattle around in the hole until the threads are ruined.
