Greatest Sporting event i ever attended personally. I was sitting in the upper deck on at the closed end of the stadium right behind the goalposts...perfect vantage point to see Wide Right III. Go Canes!
The 2001 team gets all the attention and rightfully so but I think this Miami team was just about as good. The 2000 team had a more difficult schedule with Washington on the road and this monster FSU team. Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne, Ed Reed, Dan Morgan and Lewis on the D-line plus most of the players on the 2001 team. This game was the end of an era in college football. The last time that both of these teams were elite at the same time. They talk about SEC football nowadays. This was SEC football before there was SEC football as we know it today with the speed and physicality that few teams could match.
This game was an absolute classic! Even though I am a Nole fan, I still love this game. I was an FSU student at the time and I remember exactly where I watched this game in Tallahassee. One of the best games in the history of the storied FSU vs. Miami rivalry.
Testing, testing, is this thing on... I pray that you are watching this Coach Manny Diaz because we NEED to be 'the team to beat again'. Move us forward... The 🙌
WIDE RIGHT PART iii LOVED IT Snapped that 5 year losing streak I screamed so loud when he missed it for the Canes finally winning , I screamed so loud & hard that I threw up I was so happy fsu lost
Fucking BCS computer bullshit. And the title game was in the O.B. Should have won 3 straight national titles. Got screwed by polls, then the refs. But 2001 team left NO DOUBT!!
Bowden admitted that after his Seminoles got squashed by OU in the title game. One of the first things he said was "y'all were right - it should have been Miami and Oklahoma."
This was an awesome fsu team, crunched a lot of teams they played, Miami was also good, ranked one behind them at the end...would have to wait one more year for their championship.
@@tiguhhhh5415 I agree Miami should have gotten their shot but nobody was destroying that OU team that year. That Bob Stoops defense was nasty. I think Miami wins but it's a classic game.
As an FSU fan I would have to agree. We played a terrible game against OU and didn't have "Snoop" Minnis. As much as it pains me, Miami should have gotten the opportunity. They won the "head to head" matchup. That's why you can't let computers pick the national championship game participants. Here's to the 12 team playoff! We finally get to settle all these hypotheticals on the field.
The sad thing about this is FSU was rank #1 Miami beat FSU. Miami was 11-1 FSU was 11-2 . Beat them and a better record. And was ranked above FSU It's was a robbery. THIS WAS DONE BECAUSE THEY KNEW OKLAHOMA HAD NO CHANCE TO BEAT MIAMI. MIAMI HAD BEEN THE DOMINANT TEAM FOR OVER A DECADE. AND THIS WAS THERE WAY TO STOP THEM FROM WINNING ANOTHER NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. 2001 OKLAHOMA AND MIAMI HAD THE SAME TEAMS AND MIAMI BEAT WITH EASE. THE NCAA COMMITTEE KNEW IT ALL ALONG. SO THEY MADE UP A LAME EXCUSE TO ROB MIAMI OF A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Can you only imagine if Coach Davis had stayed ::: he would have surpassed every Coach from then to now ....And Ken Dorsey.... the probably best QB to play at the college level
ldk about Dorsey.....he was a good field general and overall collegiate player. USC had a great run......l remember being salty because l felt like that should have been Miami, and would have been had Davis remained HC.
Ken Dorsey was a good college QB with an elite team around him. If you want to talk about the best college QB's I would name Tebow, Vince Young, Lamar Jackson, Burrow and Cam Newton. Even Marcus Mariota was a much better college player than Dorsey. There is a reason Dorsey never won the Heisman. He was good, not great.
Miami should've played OU for the National Championship, as usual, the BCS and the NCAA robbed Miami out of two National Championships in 2000 and 2002.
I was at this game. What a game. We sat on the side of end zone so when kick went up we thought it was good. But we saw everyone go nuts so we did too. And then Miami got screwed by bcs. What a joke.
I look at our LBs in the early 90s armstead, barrow , smith. My god wtf to recruiting here.. lack of a coach letting players show emotion, or. HC employing friends instead of actually coaches
It was the first year (and only the third game) of his long run doing college football games - he had been doing the NFL and NBA for most of the previous 20 years and was still learning the college game.
@@ryansheskey276 Not at all - I 100% agree with you. I remember thinking that same thing watching games in 2000. He seemed a bit of a fish out of water. Fortunately he grew into the role and became an iconic college football announcer in his own right.
