It's maintenance time and I'll be doing an engine oil change and transmission fluid change just so that I have a piece of mind that I did it. This procedure will apply to a majority of the Honda D-Series family of engines from 1988 to 2000. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments section below.

The 96 to 2000 civics me personally beleive one of the top 10 best cars ever built i have 2 1997 civics one has 425 k and still runs perfect the compression was at 180 psi all 4 cylinders after those many miles and it still runs shifts perfect ice cold ac i think if you keep changing the timing belts on these cars every 100k and do regular maintence they will last a good million miles with the origional drive train its important to keep this well built stuff around because everyday this stuff is being scrapped

Napa SIlver Filter is exactly the same price and such a better filter. I wouldn't even use a fram on a car i got for free.
@buffhorses
@buffhorses 5 лет назад
Also watch out for that Supertech oil, it's like impossible to find actual results for this oil. I did however come across a few forums about the Conventional and Synthetic versions of Supertech and It'll lose up to 50 percent of its viscosity at 1000 to 1500 miles on both oils. The automatic fluid though is amazing and cheap. I would get rid of that oil though, just sayin.

The new gen OEM honda oil filters (the one with a 02 as the ending in part number i beleive) is made by the makers of Fram filters....Honda cut cost in quality there ....so that Fram is pretty much OEM quality just cheaper.... search here on ou tube if you have doubts

I want to buy a 2010 Honda Civic with an automatic transmission that has 119,000 miles from a lady on Facebook. The vehicle is in mint condition and she services the car a lot. Only thing that caught my attention is that the transmission fluid was a darker brownish color but it drives beautiful. Is there a possibility that since it drives normal and it’s that color that it could be a underlying problem? She’s the only owner to the car and she never changed the fluid at all since day 1.
@GTContent

Shouldn't be a problem if it's well taken care of. You can change the fluid when you own it.

Do these civics have an internal filter for the automatic transmission? You commented about only needing 3 quarts instead of maybe 6 (?) . Is there a bigger service that can be done to these automatics. Tia Good video.
@bradikal9770
@bradikal9770 4 года назад
A larger service would consist of draining all the fluid and perhaps flushing the system/torque converter where 3 of the 6 quarts remain while doing a basic service change as shown in the video. Depending on age, mileage, etc...doing a full flush of your transmission is not recommended and could cause more harm than good.

Thanks for the video. A question - does the transmission fluid dipstick sit as snug in its tube as the engine oil dipstick does? And is there a washer or O-ring on the transmission fluid dipstick itself (or on the tube opening it goes into) to give it a snug fit?

Best video for my Honda Civic 2001. I just drained the Transmission fluid and replaced with Valvoline Multi ATF Maxlife Full Synthetic. I checked my tip-stick and it was just above the top notch. I thought I might have over filled a little bit but watching your video it looks like you also filled just a hair above the top line too so I'm thinking that we are fine yes? How do you like using the ATF Maxlife fluid? Is that better than Castrol Transmax Multi Import ATF?
@GTContent
@GTContent 3 года назад
Yes, it should be fine a little high. The max life fluid has been good to me. Sorry, I have no experience with the castrol.
@MrOTcomputer
@MrOTcomputer 3 года назад
@@GTContent Thanks. After driving around for a week, I drained the Castrol and added the Maxlife and for a couple days I couldn't really tell that much of a difference. Meaning it felt pretty much the same, UNTIL day 3 rolled around and then I could really start feeling the slight difference between the two. The Maxlife just gave it a hair more smoother shifting. It was very slight but noticeable. I thought I might just be experience a placebo effect so I let my wife drive around for a day to see if she says anything and sure enough she said the same thing "now the car feels like it did before". meaning it was shifting like new.

Full change will involve taking off the transmission pan and replacing the filter. It's going to be difficult to remove 100% of the fluid, but it's the best method to remove most of it.

Hi, is transmission fluid change is same as the oil change for the gearbox ?
@kaosmynd4182
@kaosmynd4182 3 года назад
Almost but transmission fluid is closer to hydraulic fluid than oil. In a basic gear box all you need is lubrication, an automatic uses fluid pressure to control it's operation...AND lubricate the parts and seals.

If the fluid is clean, then no problem. The reality is the fluid gets contaminated or breaks down with heat or other factors, so it should to be replaced.

Great if you want to learn and have the tools and it also assures yourself that you did it correctly for a piece of mind. I've heard experiences where the customer wasn't sure if the dealer used premium oil or if the oil filter was replaced. Sometimes it's cheaper to go to the dealer if you have the time and if they have coupons/specials to save money.

Drain and fill isn’t hard to do. You’ll be able to handle the job. Just be aware of tightening the drain, you can easily strip the thread.
