Followed your videos and restored my old 2002 4700 box truck. • Engine oil was going into my tank 😳. • Pulled injectors and say damaged rings. • Put new LPOP, new water pump, new fan clutch. Put new gasket on that plate on front where oil was leaking from, new ipr, icp and cps. • Now it sounds and run even better than when I bought it. Now it’s one click one start. • You are a great mechanic. 👍🏿

Totally agree about filling the oil filter. I always do it and have been for over 25 years. Knipex rock, germans make some great tools. Yeah that coolant is nasty. You're doing it right at least. Nice work

You always seem to get the “fun” projects. Hope Justin gets some healing done. That cutting and insertion of fixating appliances can take a while to heal. Trust me on this.

I always liked those driveline brakes. Peak makes some stuff called "final charge converter" that lets you switch over to final charge without flushing the system. No sure what kind of voodoo it uses.

I’ve got a 2000 T444E and a 2003 DT466. The in-line 6 is so much easier to work on than the 8 cylinder. I also have a 2005 DT 466, but that one has the egr on it and less fun to fix over the 2003 w/o the egr. All these trucks have well over 300k miles on them, but run really well. Looks like Justin lucked out and didn’t end up with that worthless AT545 trans in his rig. Keep up the awesome videos brother!

Agreed: oil should be pretty darn clean when it comes from the jug, so I go straight in the filter. I think a small particle would be better than dry running for (what seems like eternity). Keep the anti-never-tin-man-paint-seize flowin! Thanks for the video! Nice work as always!

I have an edge tuner on my 97 7.3 and i like how it has maintenance reminder for my oil changes. I just installed a coolant filter kit early this year since i had an oil cooler failure. Im also planning on adding a bypass oil filter. I just put a new radiator and degas tank, water pump, fan clutch in and when i filled it i used 1 gallon concentrate and the rest was mixed but i didnt do a flush. Got an oil leak coming down by starter now so im ordering a new upgraded turbo and ebpv deleted pedestal and with my new 180cc injectors i got a heavy pedal usage 1211 code so new hpop thats better suited for injectors and im thinking my other 3 oil rail plugs as 1 had a bad leak but was fixed to make trk all better and be ready for my heavy tow trip for tractor show

I always fill the filters too..about 85% full...as you said jug oil is as clean as it gets . I too always date all the filters..as well as the mileage and the hours..especially on ones i work on like trash trucks or tree trimmer trucks . Which trans fluid you using...i use transynd but i know some other manufacturers have come up with suitable fluid for the allisons...hopefully much better priced
@j.c.smithprojects
@j.c.smithprojects 3 года назад
i prefer transynd but there is an alternative to this vintage that is far cheaper. it is a dexron series fluid.

I believe that international actually put out a TSB on oil changes and priming the oil system. put the filter on dry, pull the ecm relay to prevent the engine from starting, crank it over until you see pressure reading on the oil pressure gauge. Put the relay back in and fire it up.

fixing or building trucks isnt for the faint of heart or light of wallet....i want to be as through as possible and take care of any current and future problems....what costs $100's of dollars in pick up trucks costs $1000's of dollars to do in one of these trucks.

@@j.c.smithprojects Yeah, I’ve performed most of my repairs on cars over the years but as I’ve gotten older I don’t have the time, workspace or tools to do anything other than minor repairs. I’ve got a background in fabrication and industrial maintenance but don’t have a garage space for all the welding and fabrication equipment to do the projects I would like to do. You’ve got a nice setup (it’s your money maker) and do quality work for fair prices. That’s hard to find these days.

That’s really good advice to fill the oil filter before installing back on the truck makes a lot of sense. I do have a question though. What’s the danger of mixing green and red extended life coolants? Do the coolants fight against each other because they have different chemical properties, or do they just simply cool at different temperatures?
@j.c.smithprojects
@j.c.smithprojects 3 года назад
the concern is that when mixed they can form a thick gelatinous substance. this substance can limit the coolant flow and heat transfer. it can cause over heating problems. i have never hear of any adverse chemical reactions that harmed the internal passages but i suppose it is possible...we really dont know which or how many coolants were mixed....therefore, get it out, cleaned and proper coolant installed.

would drawing a vacume on it after filling would move air to exp tank and replace with antifreeze ??

What is the deference between the red and green antifreeze is it because of the diesel
@braaapattack2937
@braaapattack2937 3 года назад
Nothing to do with gas or diesel, comes down to now what each motor manufacturer think is best for their motor (ie gm going to dexcool in the 90’s, and now every manufacturer has their own color and mix). It’s basically like oil, do what you feel is best and meets the specs of the motor, just fully flush the system and stick with whatever you use and not flip-flop between every version out there
